[looks like i'll have to take this a step at a time😆]

well cbji my memory is not as sharp as your's 😉....so bear with this slowpoke😆.......quality of singers ?i do not see any change in that .....these new singers are no less compared to the old singers.......may be the old singers had a chance to attempt diffcult semiclassical songs and competetion was bit difficult then....if these new singers were given a chance to sing those songs they would do a wonderful job .....i don't think people have problem with singers ?.....i thought they had problem with the quality of show the whole format....i personally do not feel bad that the format has changed......i would love to see the old format but if it doesn't i am not just going to pin my hopes on saregamapa and wait for it to change ....i am going to enjoy all the masala filled show just as it is and if it becomes unbearable to watch will go find some other thing to do in life.......😛

my first point is that the roll over format (in which the winner of the previous episode follows goes to the next episode) was not the permanent format of srgmp. there were many series like Golden Voice Hunt which gave us some great singers. these singers were exposed to MDs because many MDs came in as JUDGES in the show. these judges were always people who are reputed proffessional musicians that would listen to these contestents carefully and in alot of detail. u must not forget that we got some great singers out of this show. also, speaking of exposure, old srgmp had a reputation of being a very musically rich show and therefore many big MDs were regular viewers of the show and if they liked a voice then they would give them a chance. i was a regular viewer of this show and i was only 10 years old so u cant say that it didnt appeal to all ages (unless i am abnormal). Now, when challenge 2005 started i actually liked the format. i thought the idea of gharanas was excellent. but the fact that these MDs would start fighting with each other was not predictable. they probably did not know it themselves. also C2005 did not really loose quality until agnipariksha round. this is really when things got bad. i do not think that public voting was needed because to choose a good singer one would trust an experienced and knowledgable musician rather than common people.

i think i wrote alot there. my main point is that i do not agree that old format was bad. neither was C2005 format (initially). it was a very successful experiment. all corruption of the show came solely out of public voting. the reason all the drama happened was 2 get votes.

these are strictly my opinions. anyone is welcome to give feedback on it.

Frankly CB, reading your post I could say that you do not have proper knowledge of the old SRGM format because they had four contestants every week and six on some weeks. Considering 4 a week that makes 208 new talents. I just strongly disagree with your views.

The only thing I would like to say is

Earlier SRGM used to be a show for the CLASSES, and now unfortunately its a show for the MASSES.

👏

Thanks appaji, I couldn't have said it better myself.

"if it becomes unbearable to watch will go find some other thing to do in life......."

right on!

just find it amusing though that sgmp has never before been more analyzed, criticisized, bashed up, yet watched- all at the same time. lots of folks hiding in the closet, parde ke peeche se chipkar dekh rahe hain? 😉

arre, naya format nahee hota toh naye taze logon ko "intellectually" bash karne ko kahaan milta? forum ka kya hota? 😉

good points! but

we can get into all the variations of the old show. pick the one you liked the most. if we are talking abt the golden hunt etc, then in some respects it was similar to c2005. and my big argument is with respect to talent. a contest where only the folks who can audition in mumbai get to participate has to be more limited. seedhee se baat hai. we got vineeta out of that hunt. she didnt get too far with c2005, did she. saptak too. n maybe others too i dont know of...

if you pick the 2-new-contestants a week format of the old sgmp, i think it shld be clear that c2005gave us some of the best singers up-front. (my arguments are there in previous posts)

from then on, what we see on TV is a matter of presentation/ packaging. in the old format, with limited number of contestants each week, sgmp crew cld devote a lot of time and energy to presenting folks just right. the reality aspect of some things are getting shown now...
