My 2 cents.. and I could have taken a tangent here, since I have not been watching EMAET so far.
I am having trouble digesting Reality Show (public voting) format, which I have seen negatively impact several good singers, and benefit many singers who, in my opinion, were not the best. Good talent has suffered in FG (Arijit), II2 (Amey), SRGMP Challengee 2005 (Nihira) and now EMAET (Niladri) because of this show format.
Although there are no conclusive or decisive flaws in the format, I don't think it suits very well in the Indian scenario. It has been a huge success in many countries. We are a bunch of very varied folks in India, differing almost unbelievably in food, clothing, language, culture, preference etc from one state to the other. If these differences were not enough, we also have a "pay to vote format", so voting is limited to only certain sections, and certain age groups (esp wrt SMS) in the society. Such factors affect the outcome in the show considerably.
To make such shows successful, they add dramas like love stories, designer clothes, AVs, fights etc. which have nothing to do with singing.
Although such reality shows test personality and heart-winning ability of the contestants, I believe there should be atleast one good musical program, where the public is not involved (like the old SRGM format), and the focus is primarily on singing, and the judges can educate the audience as they judge the participants.
