In the early SRGM and SRGMP days, most of the singers were reasonbly good, and then there were outstanding singers such as Mohd. Vakil, Parthiv, Abhijeet Ghosal, Shreya and Shoma and many others.
There was never a day that I felt that someone's singing was grating. And if there was it was very, very rare.
Coming to these days...
Let's look at:
II2's top 3... I'll let you infer on that one. My opinion, only one real singer there.
C2005: I only watched from the top ten. But it was apparent that there were some people who did not belong on that stage (you can make your own inferences there too).
EMET: The worst yet. And the sad part is that people don't vote for good singing. I thought Niladri was one of the better singers.
Is there really a dearth of good singers out there? Or are the good singers not willing to make a joke of their talent? Where are the producers going wrong? Do we really think these reality shows, where there is less focus on good music/singing, are going to last much longer? I don't think so, or atleast I hope not. I am still giving EMET a chance, but if it keeps going this way, I won't watch. If every true music lover takes a stand against such degradation of music, women etc hopefully GS will rethink his brilliant strategy. Sensationalization only works momentarily, but good music, lasts much longer.
