The market for classical score based tracks are limited to period films now, Sinha Saab. Because all so called Love Stories made today are aimed at the youth which is 'hip' and 'hop'. Out of 10 films made today, 8 are run-of-the mill stuff.
Let's hope, with good filmmakers and producers, we get better music. 👍🏼

You can expect some good folk and classical based stuff in Marigold.

you mean songs churned like chakki ka atta........??
BTW Im thinking which was the last movie with songs of semiclassical base and still did well on boxoffice, Im fearing is it is actually 1942 a Love story.....?

That is the difference bet composer and a film maker. A film maker sees songs as a medium to tell his story less and sell his film more. But certainly not to showcase the composer's talent or taste. And a composer will anytime want to compose song to the best of his ability. A golden point will be where both meet. So many have achieved that ,hence we have so many unforgettable songs.

very well said.

I agree, but I dont think (EL) part of S-E-L would agree, if they do, Shankar becomes a lead. It might be more of a control issue, yes they have the tools and now they can afford to experiment, but the principles in the group should be flexible for one of them to take charge, and I dont see it happening, considering Shankar seems to be a very soft spoken, non-dominating person, I am just going on the demenour I see on TV and in interviews( but that is just one persons interpretation of what he sees on TV, so take it for what it is worth😉)

Dont you think going by general perception Shankar is still a lead in SEL....?

Sinha ji, good post.
Another good one, "lakshya" is missing from that list...
about the classical tune, I think its not the public demand right now...so kajra re is also okay for time being..
Good thing is there is always a glimpse of melody..for example kaisi hai yeh rut(DCH), kitni baatein( lakshya) and kuchh pal ( phir milenge)...They are filling the gap nicely in that genre after Jatin Lalit are almost gone..

agree sir.
Mukesh ji you are learning guitar, if you listen carefully they use many funky effects on guitar. Im giving an example;
In song Aao Na ( Kyu Ho Gaya Na) the lead guitar has been used in compression-distortion outlet, it is subtle & goes with rhythm..have you observed it...? It sounds like a matka tuned to sa...!

Kajra Re is completely folk based.

Abhi,

The music of these two movies are just awesome, but did not do good business.

yahi to hai appa
we are responsible for downfall of quality, good music doesnt do buisness. I recently learnt that Rang De Basanti also flopped. then music also suffers, like music of Khamoshi suffered.
