If there was one show I would watch on telly religiously, it was Sa Re ... But the challenge show turned music and values into a complete mockery. I couldnt watch the program anymore. But with "Punjini" genuinely wanting to bring about a change in the 2006 challenge, I am inspired to offer my two-penny bit. Firstly, I strongly believe that mentors while guiding their prodigees should not mess around with their innocence! These young aspirants come into the show totally devoid of any artificiality and then reduced to some cheap, gimmiky, painted frankensteins. Neither the grease paint is necessary nor the stunts that they are being trained to demonstrate. Public voting I find most depressing! I suspect most of the voters dont really understand the intricacies of good quality music. Voting should mainly come from the musical fraternity and that is a huge arena we can tap from. It also bothers me that the competition does not have a healthy tone to it. Having the will and drive to reach your goal is one thing but competition of any kind in life need not become ugly. We are propogating wrong values. I must also confess that I have been troubled by a niggling doubt: are the public more inclined to see a male winner? Nihira, Himani, Antara from Indian Idol 2 ... I dont know!
Prema, what a discerning description of what SRGMP has become. The kids of 17 who came to the show began to look like monstrosities as the programme progressed. Innocent creatures became painted ghosts. Even lovely Nihira looked ghastly in some episodes with horrible hairstyling. At the end of it all, Vinit and Debojit turned blond for some reason. 😆

Maybe it was the pressure of performing that made them turn blond...u know stress can manifest in diff ways...just like Shahjahan greyed overnite after Mumtaz died...😉😆
Also feel that we could make use of the meter that Anurag Harsh mentioned, which goes into red zone when someone sings off-key. The amount of time that each singer's voice stays in the red zone should also be used in the rating given by judges. I rather liked the way Daler Mehendi was giving his judgement based on the number of times the singers went off-key.
Punjini.....I have a personal dislike for Daler mehendai notwithstanding his human traffikking fiasco with the authorities...but in SARE...he came out knowlegdeable...and I LIKED his comments.....

Punjini...the blondie thing must be the "in-thing" in hamara desh now....ONE person has to visit US, UK or Singapore to see the youngsters spiking their hair with gel and painting it brown/green/red and what-not and you have it in mera desh the next day....
Dear All
Saregamapa Challenge 2005 had a completely new format from the earlier years and was watched by far more people than ever before. It was exciting, inspiring, emotional, yet often unjust, irritating and even downright funny.
Now, we should give ideas to the Saregamapa organisers to devise a new format whereby real talent gets rewarded and biases are reduced to a minimum. The winners of the challenge in 2006 should find the going even more tough and exacting. So let's give our ideas.
For starters, I would say:
1)A panel consisting of Shaan, Gajendra Singh and a few others should do the initial screening of candidates based on the cassette recordings sent by candidates. Let's say 50 are selected.
2) 5 gharanas should be set up and 10 candidates put in each gharana. My choices for the mentors would be Jatin-Lalit, Shankar Mahadevan, A.R. Rahman, Ismail Darbar and Shiv-Hari. Of course, it would be too much to expect all these people to agree to give their dates
Punjini....a very good thread...I had started something like this sometime back but you put it better....the bottome-line ? Gajji MUST break his head to come out with something tangible and BETTER than Sarega...Challenge 2005.....
Also, they MUST STOP this nonsense about Ek....(dont even feel like completing the title) and START Saregamapa Challenge 2006....

I don't agree with that. That's asking for too much. I mean, these are kids. And that isn't the only thing to singing a song, is it? Then why do we want judges? Just the chromatic tuner is enough then.
Daler Mehndi was wrong in just counting the no. of times they lost their sur and giving marks. If that was the case, we wouldn't have had superb singers like Mukesh giving such classics.😊
But abhi....the point of such shows is to hunt the best of the best....so when you reach that stage of the competition, then you must NOT slip....that was why it was good to see that the guy who slipped in sur was given less marks.....OUTSIDE of the competion, it is OK. Otherwise, like I said...ALL 12 from SARE.....were GOOD singers...Now...HOW to choose ONE from the lot ?😊
