We've nothing against anyone, why would we have in a farce competition, but trust me there are far more diehard fans of Nihira than me & they all may not be equally moderate....for what has been analysed.

This post of yours is way better. Definetely what you say carries weight because you seem quite knowledgeable about music. So your opinion expressed as such is respected and one finds pearls of musical wisdom in what you say.

Put the other knowledgeable opinions also in perspective and for the major part, consider your own judgement and feeling about a rendition by the singer. After all that, music affectionados could be reasonable god judges. At least their (Post Mortem, After the Effect, Hind Sight 20/20) would be quite accurate.

Desivaluesji, with due respect, I'd like to disagree and pay my 2 cents.

Nihi has been good in most songs she's sung. And they've been versatile. Himani, has stuck to her strength.

Here's a scenerio -

Saurav Ganguly is a prolofic player..flamboyance, grace personified. Has done exceedingly well at home, and records stand tall.

Steve Waugh played quietly, mature, gritty, down to earth craftsmanship. No flamboyance. Has scored even all over the world.

Now, who's the better batsman?

After that digression, there's one more point I'd like to make.

There are allegations (or rather, opinions) that Nihira's singing doesn't have feel, while Himani's has. Agreed to an extent. We draw the line here. We are WATCHING THEM sing. When it's a question of playback, we don't WATCH THEM sing. So the feel has to be conveyed by their voice alone, and that depends on their voice quality. Going just by that, Nihira is as sweet as nectar.
But then, as Anuragji pointed out, nowadays, you don't need to be a really good singer to sing for movies.
Another argument is, music is declining because of bad singers. Counter argument - Music is declining, so bad singers. Although, we could again counter the second point by saying that a person's gaayki depends on his/her talim and riyaaz.

And the offshot is?

This debate is endless. We should agree to disagree and bury the hatchet and clean up the wounds and break down the wall and fill up the ditch and blah blah blah. To each his own. Amen.

Anyone for Seabuckthorn juice? Chilled? No rum, sorry Shantibai. 😃

Mr. Anurag , if you had heard SAPTAK singing , you would have forgotten all others songs. He was the BEST . Pity he was eliminated in the first round. 😭

Incidentally, I had organized their show in Chicago. I had same inhibitions before but was surprised later. True, many audience came to listen to Ghulam Ali than Talat. But I cannot deny the fact that Talat was a good showman as well and many of us were pleasantly surprised by it. He (like Ghulam Ali) kept audience entertained. Again, its what common audience liked!

An easy way to determine if I am genuine or not is to notice that my website www.AnuragHarsh.com is sub-hosted on Sloanpartners.com and my personal link is to http://www.sloanpartners.com/anuragharsh/personal/music/musi chome.html which means it is on the Sloan Partners domain. As proof, you can send me an email to Harsh@Sloanpartners.com and I can reply back so you know its me!

This is ofcourse for those who are still doubting if I am fake!

More surprising is that this topic was already being discussed under uselogic thread in full, what was need to open a new post that too again under same heading:
from the desk of Pt Bhimsen Joshi disciple.... 😉

In future I shall avoid all engagements in IF with Mr Veteran anywhere since my ears completely belie me.

I was just going thru anuraags resume and i must say it was pretty impressive. So imagine my suprise when he said Himani was better than Nihira as a singer!. If anuraag has been following saregampa closely, he would surely notice than himani has never ventured out of genre - her genre being songs with a punjabi feel to them. Granted, she is good in her genre, but i think a true test of a singer is versatility. Nihira on the other hand has attempted everything from 'Saath RE' to 'HRHK', 'Rangeela Re' and pulled them off with ease.

As regarding sur, i have absolutely no training in music, perhaps ppl like sinhaji, abhi ,kishore bhakta can contribute in a better manner, but as a lay-man i can safely say , barring one or two times , i have never found nihira besuri...cant say the same for himani. In some songs, she was downright horrible.

Probably Nihira/Himani debate will never end. but i could not resist from commenting as i thought a person which a gr8 formal training like anuraag would surely find nihira as a better singer. Personal choice is ofcourse an entire differnt matter.

Guys I have no idea how I became a veteran member or what that even means. I think we are arguing over petty things. Lets rise above these things. Hopefully we are mature enough to look beyond the trivialities.

Bigmac - thanks so much for your analysis. It was interesting to note your obervations on these contestants. I must say that I am totally disgusted to see people attacking you for just putting up your views.

I wish you people would just learn to respect others. Not everyone needs to agree with your "universal truths" as you claim them to be. If they don't please spare them of your ridicule. Shame on you all!! Really all those tall claims of being so musically trained and knowledgeable has not taught you to be more tolerant of contradicting views. Most of us on this forum my not be as musically tuned as you all are, but I think we know what sets a great musician apart - its GRACE and RESPECT! Give it a shot sometime - you may just like it.
