And he gets better, and gives us entirely new music experience every time. Talking of Hindi movies, Lagaan music was exactly what the period film needed. And now Rang De Basanti is exactly what a youth film needed. Each song is so beautiful, full exuberance at one time (Rang de basanti, Rubaroo, Paathshala), & then so touching at other times (Looka Chhippi, Tu bin bataye, Ik OmKar). He is wizard at picking up right voices too. While Harshdeep is perfect for the IkOmkar Shabd, Lata's voice (& of course his own) is so incredibly touching in Looka Chhuppi. Naresh Iyer & Mohd. Aslam voices come out so natural in Rubaroo & Paathshala.

Hats off to the greatest composers of our times!

ARR's voice compliments Latha's so well in Looka Chhuppi song. Who would have thought to use Daler M for the title track, it turned out to be the most popular.

I'll just tell you where his choice of instruments were good. I'll let the experts give u a more detailed answer

Thiruda, Thiruda: 'Thee Thee'- guitar/strings
Duet: 'Anjali Anjali" - saxophone
Sangamam: 'Varaaga Nadhikarai' - percussion instruments
Roja: 'Pudhu Velai Mazhai' (the song Debo sang recently)- the whole effect.

after your discussion of luka chuupi, I listened to it carefully, it is MINDBLOWING....
it is based on an evening based raag, the song again sees ARR experimenting with instru like wooden flute, harmonium, keyboards & ofcourse fusing it with underlying bass guitar can you make out rolling notes here & there on bass, absolute treat.....
for both vocalists & instrumentalists...
bahut acha gaana, jeeyo ARR bhai...100 saal aur aise gaane banate jao....

ARR is a wizard, a genius & maybe somebody like me, who does not have intensive knowledge about instruments.. the end result is simply intoxicating. I appreciate how it makes me remember my mother when I listen to Luka Chippi, how it makes me want to join my hands when I hear "O Paalanhaare", how it makes want to dance when I hear "Rang de basanti" or "Chaiyyan Chaiyyan" or "Humma Humma" ; or how "Ramta Jogi", "Naiana Millaike" simply make me sway with music.

The man has extraordinary ability to bring together Western & Eastern instruments together & create melodious magic. I think he cares about every detail, and lives & breathes his work…and still is so down to earth.

FULLY AGREE SIR...........
BTW interesting to see X5D Korg effects in Paathshaala, his fav. keyboards, if one listens carefully he can make out similar modes in Fanaa (Yuva) & Paathshala, experts would comment better but I felt chords used are unusual & fall into 7th/sharp category...
