Typically the lap steel guitar is tuned in one of several "open" tunings rather than standard guitar tuning.
If you remember many instrumentals played inbetween programmes on AIR were played on Steel guitar..

I'd like to add that a steel guitar is called that beause it uses steel strings (of varying gauges, of course) and the steel slider for playing.

Described above is the lap steel guitar, one of the 2 styles of steel guitar. The lap steel can sometimes also be put on a stand/legs, so you can stand up and play it. The other is a pedal steel guitar - this type has elaborate gearing mechanisms that change string tension using pedal pressure.

Both are played using a metal slider. Steel guitar is very popular while playing Hawaiian music.

Then there is the steel string guitar which is just like a regular guitar with steel strings.

There was RD and now we have this god topiwalla, who can NOT play any instrument, can NOT sing and yet the young public has gone nuts. some elders also seems to like him.. just goes to show you how low hindi film music has gone. It is all thanks to this topiwalla

What a wonderful write up, Sinha Ji!! Thanks a lot for the insightful info 😊

The first time I heard Dhanno Ki Aankhon mein, I was really fascinated by the strange rhythm. Later learnt that it was the flanger effect used with the guitar.

Yes Arunji

Dhanno ki ankho mein....
RD attched flanger to the guitar which induces metallic effect & makes the whole thing sound besura, this only could have been managed by RD saab. Manohari da the moving force behind RD's orchestra actually suggested it.
Pancham has sung this song very well.
BTW an interesting Q:

Which was the Pancham's last movie??
