Ae meri Topi palat ke aa.... is a RDB tune 👏 I love the song for the sheer fun in it..

Thanks Sinha saab for sharing this piece of information. Tum Bin jaaon kahan is one song which I can never decide which is better... the Kishore Da one or the Mohd. Rafi Saab one. But judging by the number of times I have heard both versions, it appears Rafi Saab's version left a slightly bigger impact.

sinhaji, what is the truth behind'aradhna' music..is it true that s.d.was very sick so the songs were composed by pancham but credited to s.d...'roop tera mastana' perhaps was composed by panchamda?

I would like to add some snippets that I had read somewhere to the thread.

  • Salilda was not one to be taken easily to praise. He did not rate Naushad highly. But he rated RD greater than Naushad. It was his belief that while Naushad was predictable, RD was not.
  • RD was to compose for Gulzar's 'Devdas' but the project did not see the light of the day. Wonder how he would have stood up to his father's compositions of Bimalda's 'Devdas'
  • RD himself irresponsibly stated to the media in 90's that 23 of his films in a row were flops. His 24th film then "Sunny" which carried a gem like 'Aur kya ahd-e-wafa hote hain' (Suresh Wadkar-Lata) also could not then revive him because of his own confession of 23 flops.
  • Raju Bharatan reminisces as a member of Sur-Singar Samsad Film Awards committee, I remember RD's Lata classic from 'Chandan Ka Palna', O Ganga maiya paar laga de, coming up for live consideration of the best classical song of the year 1967. But it was finally rejected, not on its own merit, but on the grounds that Sur-Singar's name would be in the mud if it presented a classical award to R.D. Brijmohan was the man who headed the committee. The award eventually went to Madan Mohan for Lata's Maine rang li aaj chunariya.. from 'Dulhan Ek Raat Ki.'
  • I think this must be known to you all that the score of 'Aradhana' was orchestrated by RD. Since SD was too ill at the time. The result is before you. This has been perhaps the reason why Shakti Samant swtched to RD after 'Aradhana'.
  • Likewise, the 'Nau Do Gyarah' song "Aankhon mein kya ji" though credited to SD was originally tuned by Panchamda. Also the "Yaar mei tum bhi ho gazab( One of my favourites. It has a unique masti to it. ' from 'Teen Deviyaan'
  • RD was also signed by Guru Dutt for his film 'Raaz' but unfortunately the film was shelved.

Roop tera mastana must have been definitely composed by RD! Also, in another movie Talash, I am positive that RD composed "Kar le pyaar kar le" and not SD. RD's style is unmistakable. Same with "Raat akeli hain" in Jewel Thief.

I have not gone into which films were those( I will try to check after I can arrange the films in chronological order) but RD surely gave a statement to that effect as per the writer. He was very naive in some aspect. He never thought that this is film-world. Here you do not talk about failures. You go on as if nothing has happened. But he did a grave mistake of admitting that he had flops(at least he considered them flops). There are quite a few instances where RD reacted too late. I think the column I read it from was written by Raju Bharatan.
