Couple of lines sung by Abhilasha keeping with her track record of trying out something new,

performed a rendition that consisted of an adlib of a Carnatic song Alaipayuthey Kanna .... is a

tamil devotional song ..sung for lord Krishna along with 'Kismat se tum mile ho...

both her songs today the above and the Lavini were sung very well👏👍🏼

Listen to the remix version of AR Rehmman

Amukta ji,
I do not understand Tamil or Lavini, but Abhilasha was superb today including her Tamil song and the lavini. I thought Abhilasha was the best today.

I don't understand Lavini either but the mood of the song was very uplifting.I am not fluent in tamil either..but this is a carnatic song..a keerthan in rag kanada....thalam Adi.Very popular one though.Lot of carnatic singers have sung this and I love the song.

i don't understand either language either, but this just shows that good music has no language. It just to be sung with the right feel, sur, and rhythms to make a connection with the audience. People enjoyed the Carnatic song, Kismat Se Tum Humko Mile Ho, and the Lavini song as well. She did a good job in all three songs, and her duet with Bishakh as well.

In carnatic style as amukta rightly said the raga is called kanada and the lines she sang mean something like this:
my mind is restless krishna my mind is restless (alai payuthe kanna en manam alai payuthe).
This was one of the songs I also learnt while learning carnatic music and is one of my favourites and i simply loke kanada.
There are some ragas which are common to carnatic and hindustani such as mohanam which is bhupali, hindolam which is malkauns etc but i don;t know about kanada. There is a kanada in hindustani classical too but dont know if they are the same.
I wish she had sung some more of the song though, it is a beautiful song.

kismat se tum mile..is set in Bhimpalas not Alaipayuthey...that is set in raga kanada in carnatic music.

@lotus and @ID can u throw some light on how and why Abhilasha chose the two tog..any reason or any similarities between th two.
Padma I wish she sang a couple of more lines too.I was hoping she sings Thaye Yashodha the fusion from morning Raaga..that will be wonderful.
Look at this contestant Sreenidhi who at the age oh 3 could recognise a lot of raagas..she is a wonder kid.

The above song Thaye Yashodha is a very popular Krithi set in Thodi Ragam,,which is supposed to be a very difficult raaga. in brief it means
the young krishna, is also the darling of the gopis and pet of the masses of brindhavan and/ or gokulam, the vrajpuri, [the village 'aayarpadi' in tamil language]. The gopis together say: Oh? Mother Yashoda, listen to the antics maya created by your Gopalakrishna .

Watch the song from morning Raaga where Shabani lip syncs so well.I believe she went to chennai and stayed there a couple of days to get the body language properly to enact this song.
this song is sung by Sudha Raghunathan.

Folks please enjoy and learn a little about some of the popular songs in carnatic music too.
