I have read all your posts and agree with some of the points you have raised. Ofcourse Sher Ali is an excellent singer and gave us back to back melodious performances. Unfortunately he has some limitation which he doesn't control. Our guest singers from across the border can only go upto a certain level. It wouldn't be fair for Indian contestants if these guests win the title even if they deserve it as it will be against the ethics and loyalty.
I totally agree Jaspal.
We all appreciate and enjoy singing of Nusret Fateh Ali sahib, Gulam Ali, Mehdi Hassan, Aalam Lauhaar, Shaukat Ali, Amanet Ali, Mussarret and Sher khan. These are all God gifted singers, hats off to them. May God bless them.
As a matter of fact we have real blood relations to these people who live across the border. Lahor is only 20 miles away from Amritsar. Our last names are similar e.g. Chaudhry, Chauhan, Cheema, Grewal, Gill, Bajwa, Chawla, Barar and so on. I have a couple of friends here and we get along really well.
My son, a student works part time at Business Depot for their technical support. He had a customer last week name Mummed Singh Bajwa. He asked me, "Dad how that kind of name is possible." It took me at least 30 minutes to explain the history behind it.
Having said that, here is a beautiful song, sung by Amanet Ali, lyricist Gulzar sahib and you will see his daughter Boski sitting with judges as a guest.
Thank you so much. It is beautiful
Padmaji, you are from a city where I started my career.😊 I worked with Campa Cola at their R. & D. center in Connaught Place, later joined Indian Oil R. & D. Faridabad.
Lovely. I love Delhi and have been here for ages now. I teach French.
Where do you live right now?
Please keep writing, I enjoy your comments.
I certainly will. No Ankits and the likes with their superficial analyses and half-witted responses will stop me.
Take care.
Padma

i think first of all none of the singers were comfortable in this genre.. teh guy who really did justice on high pitch which is a must for qawali was kamal... rest were ok.. i dont know which brainless person selected this genre..who sings qawali these days.....all is history.... as far as bollywood is concerned..... i just wish abhilasha, kamal and sugandha are the 3 finalists!!

I dont think RFK is a qawalli singer,, he is of semi - ghazal singer..he is mostly soft singer... NFK was a sufi/ qawalli singer....and no doubt an immaculate one... the last qawalli i know was in main hoon na which had qawalli style but the rhythm.. wasnt one of true qawalli...so if you can list a couple of qawali it would be easier.. :)..Qawalli essentially has to have the singer cross atleast 2 octaves..havent heard RFK do that...

@ qwertyesque
its because you haven't heard Rahat's Qawalis...
I have been listening to Rahat and Nusrat since i was 6 years old...
and have been following them since the last 13 and a half years now..
Because in India he got fame because of his bollywood songs...
But Rahat Saab is originally a qawal...When he sings qawali...
He uses a lot of vivadi surs....

a few examples....if u want the recordings of some of the great Qawwalis by him....i can upload them as well...he still does Qawali shows...This family has an unbroken tradition of singing qawalis since the last 600 YEARS....
