Yes , Indeed. She might have been born and bought up in maharashtra, but she is a south Indian (her parents are tamilians). That explains her classical carnatic voice quality. But why did she drop her middle name. Maybe, she felt that having a south indian surname might not help her gain votes and win contests on National TV.

IMO she hasn't sung a song demonstrating Carnatic classical. Indian classical ; big yes.

Carnatic Class was Ritisha Padmnabham in VOI, she had typical Kan required for Carnrensitionatic. I still remember her saiyya pakad baiyya as the best rendition of that song so far

She was good.. but why didn't she sing in the original scale? I am sure she can sing at a higher shruti than what she sang.. but no doubt, she was really good..
