I wasn't happy with himani's performance today. her voice sounded shaky and the mood of the song was totally lacking. moreover she did slip on the sur a couple of times (which is very unlike of her). I don't think ujjaini did very bad, she was OK. it was very clear that JL unnecessarily hype swananda, her recent performances have not been at par (i still remember her "jaane kya baat hai.. badi lambi raat hai" and "sharara sharara..")she is somehow not concentrating much and seems confused. Nihira was outstanding, no words indeed can describe her performance. no dance or swaying but the songs delivered every bit of masti and romance. I missed raktima.. her performances lately have been quite good( less nasal and more melodious), hoped she too was here today to add some sweetness in the show. twinkle ke gaaney ke baad muhh ka jaisey swaad kharab ho gaya thaa (though the high pitched scale of the song should be equally blamed).

Regarding the guys' I fully agree with fantoos's views. I want to add that i felt debojit was trying to copy singer abhijit ( i didn't like that much). debu has an original melodious voice, he should bank on it and try to make it perfect on sur. with every episode i feel vineet is gearing ahead of hemachandra. hema is very good, i would like him to reach the finals but for that he has to choose correct songs and deliver them to perfection ! Also vineet should not attempt such high scale songs, kuchh dum finals ke liye bachakey rakhey 😊

OK back to my observations which are not very different from Fantoos and justforapi1's:
- Himani did not sing the song very well. I'm more of a oldies kinda guy and there are only a few new songs here and there that I like - this song from Chameli being one of those. This song is not tough. Its just that it did not suit Himani's style - her genre is very different. She was also breathing heavily into the mic but I guess that's not really an issue in studio recording.
- Did Sharib have a sore throat? I thought he sounded hoarse tonight. He's definitely capable of doing much better than tonight.
- Hema was not the best tonight. He faltered just slightly at a couple of places and Debu and Vinit did forge ahead. Of course (thanks to the mentors), we still dont know if copying the original is a better idea or if singing in your own style is. Hema was the only person who sang in his own voice. Debu copied the original (perfectly, I might add) and Vinit too was not singing in his own voice.
Nihira was just perfect.
Swananda and Ujjaini were not too bad. They did not sing as well as we know they can.
To answer Fantoos, yes, Rajiv did sing the same song which he had sung in the prelims (he had forgotten the lyrics and then came back as a wildcard after he cried on the beach). It was a good enough performance. I still dont like him and cant understand why the mentors make a big deal out of it. Oh well, maybe thats the reason they make the megabucks and I dont 😉

Nihira was certainly the best in this round. I did not like himani's performance too much- she was good but i think she is capable of better- she was a little shaky. Swananda was good- she has a lovely voice but i think here again- she is capable of much better. Ujjaini was quite ordinary (by SGMP standards) and Twinkle was bad (by all standards)- it was a difficult song but that is more the reason why she should have concentrated more on the song than performance and the expressions.
Among the boys- i think hema was very good- i think he sang the song completely in his own style which is commendable (not copying anybody). Debojit was good, Sharib is certainly better in offbeat songs.....vineet was ok (i think he needs to get out of his mentor's shadow). Rajiv was ordinary, though i must admit that i like his voice and the soul in his singing.

BTW, i am not a trained musician or singer...completely a laywoman....who loves music and listens to songs (specially hindi songs)at every possible chance.....

I totally agree with Fantoos.I was disappointed in Sharib. I normally like the way he sings. I thought his "Aashiq Banaye Aapne" was better than the original. The song he sang today [can't remember the words]but I had heard another singer sing that one during I believe the Campus SRGMP and he had done a phenomenal job of it. The only time Ujjaini impressed me was when she sang the song from Black. She has been very ordinary since then. As for Paresh, to use the words of Simon from American Idol, he sounded and looked like any nightclub singer!!

The song was Kaho na kaho from the movie Murder.
Like PardesiDoc said, I too vaguely remember someone having sung this song in another schedule of saregamapa. In fact, the judges (I think) were very impressed that the singer had sung those arabic lyrics. Does anyone remember who it was?

No, it was not Bhaumik. It was a young kid. I remember now, it was in the Kids' SRGMP. This guy was about 16 or 18, and had a very different voice.

I might be getting confused with Piya Haji Ali that someone else sung very well in a previous schedule.
Like PardesiDoc said, it might have been a kid. He was younger than 16-18 and had a different voice (more of a qawali kind of voice) and sang this song very well. Lost in a later round to a very innocent faced sweet kid who used to have a tika on his forehead. Alas, I remember their faces but not their names 😕

The kid with the tikka on his forehead was a young Bengali kid called "Abrokanti". He was a great classical singer, for his age.

I guess you are talking about this Manna Dey's song which Abrokanti ( 11 yrs old) sang beautifully. I had recorded that kids series.

Jhooth kapat chhalkeni mosse naina mose naina milayeke ankhiyon mein band kar lenii....from Saathiya.
