Now that all of us a emotionally charged about who is in and who is out, and who deserved it, who didn't etc.. I thought lets try to breathe in some fresh air and discuss something more musical...

Since last round was all Rehman's songs, just thought of discussing Rehman's best compositions so far.. I think he is a great music director, and IMO his 5 best compositions (not necessarily in that order) are:

Roja, Dil Se, Lagaan, Sathiya and Swades

The ones that will also come close are:

Taal, Ashoka..

What do you say folks?

Roja, Bombay, Dil Se, Taal, Saathiya...I love Rehman!
Buddy, Asoka's music has been given by Anu Malik and its theme by sandeep Chowta. Though Asoka's music has been gr8ly inspired by ARR...

I though that song was based on Raga Basant, since it is uttaranga focused and it hardly ever touches the mandra saptak, if ever.

Roja and Bombay are perhaps his all-time bests. Singing wise, "yeh jo des hai tera swades hai tera" was the best from him, next to Vande Mataram. The lyrics, tune, and his voice will definitely capture you.

One thing I like paying attention to in his songs are his musical interludes. I love the second interlude of Tu Hi Re, where the sarangi plays a bit of Kaushikdhwani in tintal and ends up in Charukeshi. Choti Si Aasha had nice interludes, especially the second interlude where ARR lent his vocals. ARR was maybe one of the very few to incorporate Hindustani/Carnatic classical with Westernized rhythm and instrumentation.
