Its perfectly fine to have religious rounds IMHO. The tradition and culture of India has allowed the Indian and Muslim communities to freely interact with each other and this is most evident in Bollywood and its music where superstar SRK is proud to have a Hindu wife.

The development of North Indian Classical music certainly has contribution from Islam, in fact according to one school of thought raaga were Arabic concept, similarly we didn't have instruments like tabla and many others if the two culture hadn't interacted thoroughly. If Bade Ghulam Ali Khan saab could have a statue of Sarswati in her house then that razes all doubts. I wonder what would have been the standard of our poetry in music if didn't have stalwarts like Mazrooh saab, Shakeel Badayun, Javed Akhtar and many others.

Bollywood music's culture strongly draws support from these two religions, we have a song called O duniya ke rakhwale by Muslim trio: Shakeel Badayn (writer), Naushad (musician) and legendary M Rafi singer and there he sings Bhagwan many many times, so this mix up of culture is perfectly OK and should be promoted.

PS was just seeing the news where they are covering Salman Khan doing Ganpati Puja..! That's India.

I have no quarells with any religion or any theme, so long as they sing well. They say that religious songs have been the most inspiring music. Sufi music is basically inspired by search for one's soul or identity.
But some people think that adequate respect is not given to religion on stage and flims. My thinking is we should transcend the narrow streets of a particular religion and go above it.

Agreed 100%!! Even SRK has sung the Ganpati Bhajan in Don and the Ram Lila song in Swadesh was written my Javed Akhtar and composed by A.R. Rehman and filmed on SRK!!.....There are so many muslim actors that have been going to SiddhiVinayak temple in Mumbai on regular bases including dilip kumar and on the flip side there has also been Hindu stars like Himesh Reshammiya going to Ajmer Sharif Dargha.....even i myself have personally been there with my family :).....and all the shops around the Ajmer Dargha are owned by Hindu people who mainly survive on the business of muslims and the ones who come to dargha......Thats Bharat for the world !! :Dh

I think it's great! For us viewers we get to enjoy the song and their singing but as for the competition all they're concentrating on is the singing, so I don't see why not :)

I'm not sure, I'm a little ambivalent on this point. I don't like them bringing religion in these shows either because there are contestants of different religions. However, I guess that they weren't singing religious songs, so its not as significant.

I don't thinks this post is meant to discuss multi-cultural mixing and the role of one religion in the other.

The fact that a theme is based around one specific religion, I feel it just makes one feel uncomfortable at times. I dunno.

Not that I'm against any religion whatsoever. 😃
