'It's an honor for me to work with such great actors' - Sharad Kelkar

Sharad Kelkar, the host of Zee's new dance show, Rock N Roll Family, talks about his stint as an anchor

Sharad Kelkar, Nahar of Saat Phere, has been roped in by Zee TV for their new dance reality show, Rock-N-Roll Family. In a tete-a-tete with the Telly Buzz team, Sharad talks about his first stint as an anchor.

An actor, always seen on television as a part of serials, will be seen as a host for the first time, is it? "It as an amazing experience. Although I have anchored a show on Zee Dubai earlier, but it was a very low-profile show, so I would say this is the first time I am hosting a reality show. I am very nervous though, as it is quite a big responsibility but it is a learning experience for me too."

Sharad will be sharing screen space with three of the biggest names of cinema, who are the jury members for the show. So how does the actor feel about that? "I was very nervous. I have grown up watching Tanujaji's movies, so I was very apprehensive when I met her for the first time. It is an honor for me to share the stage with such renowned film actors."

So with Sharad shooting for Rock-N-Roll family, does it mean that the shooting of Saat Phere be hampered? "No", replies Sharad, "my shooting of Saat Phere will not get affected at all. For this show, I have to shoot 16 episodes and the director will just tell me when I have to shoot for it, so I can keep that day free accordingly."

When quizzed about the TRPs and popularity of Saat Phere dropping down, Sharad says, "Yeah the ratings of Saat Phere had dropped. But that was a few months back, we are now picking up on that again. I think that occurred more because Nahar and Saloni were not together. The audience loves seeing them together, and now that they are back, we are gaining the same popularity again."

Well the audience loved Sharad as Nahar. Now it waits to be seen if he's appreciated in the persona of an anchor too.

When Ajay Devgan 'Quit' Smoking for a day...

Rock N Roll Family on Zee, starts with a bang as actor cum judge, Ajay Devgan took a pledge not to smoke for one full day.. Wondering what the reason was? Catch the details here..
As the unique dance reality show spanning 3 generations, Rock N Roll Family kicks-off this weekend, Ajay Devgan, one of the Jury members for the contest took a silent oath of not touching his cigarette pack for one full day! So what caused this sudden change in the actor?

Well, the credit goes to one participating family, the Jain Family comprising of Rohit and Tanvi Jain who have come down all the way from Ghaziabad! It so happened that the family performed on the very happening theme – 'Smoking is Injurious to Health', and spread across the message so very nicely that Ajay Devgan was very much impressed and decided to stay away from cigarettes, well not forever, but for just 'one' day, as a mark of respect for their performance.

Payaol Patel, Creative Head confirms the incident as she says, "Yes it is true. The family from Ghaziabad danced on the song, 'Beedi Jalaile' from the film Omkara, and the song was choreographed in such a way that it upheld the message that 'Smoking is Injurious to health'. The very innovative theme and the very gripping performance by the family touched Ajay and he decided not to smoke for the whole day. He did not make an announcement as such, so we did not know anything to begin with. Later, when we saw Ajay staying away from his usual habit of puffing a cigarette after each shoot, we realized that he had taken a silent oath."

This gesture of Ajay, even if it was just for a day, came as a surprise for wife Kajol and her mom Tanuja, as the family had achieved what Kajol had not been able to do for the past so many years. Says Payaol Patel, "They both were very surprised by the decision that Ajay took, but the bubbly Kajol managed a laughter when she heard of this".

We just hope the actor's silent oath of not taking to cigarettes lasts forever!!

I've got many acting offers: Mauli

BRANCHING OUT: Mauli Dave (TOI Photo)

She started as a contestant in Sa Re Ga Ma Pa. That was a few months ago. Today this charming 19-year old is anchoring a show on TV. We are talking about Mauli Dave, who's co-hosting Rock N Roll Family with actor Sharad Kelkar. Mauli, who's always lived in the US, says she's very much Indian at heart. Singing apart, she's a tabla player and a trained Kuchipudi, Bharatnatyam and Odissi dancer. So does this singer-cum-host have acting on her mind? BT finds out from the girl herself...

How did Sa Re Ga Ma Pa happen to you?
I always wanted to participate in this show since I was a kid and Sonu Niigaam was the host. After a certain point when I felt I was ready and I saw an ad for auditions, I decided to give it a shot. I first sent a demo CD to them after which I was auditioned there. Then I came to India for another round of auditions.

After being a contestant you are now a host for a show along with Sharad Kelkar. What really went in your favour?
I guess it's my personality. I'm outspoken, lively and being a dancer helped.

Were you nervous initially before the camera?
Yes, of course. I wasn't nervous about facing the camera but the fact that it's a show in Hindi. Even though I can speak the language comfortably, my Hindi is not that great. But I am working very hard and I'm sure I'll get better.

Are you looking pursuing a career in acting here?
Yes. I've got many acting offers. But I want to be well-prepared before taking up any.

Bappi Lahiri called you the Shakira of India after you sang Mayya Mayya?
I was surprised! I didn't expect that. It's good to know that people feel I am a performer.

On the personal front, you've been linked with young host Aditya Narayan...
There was nothing going on between us. People just assumed and I think they still do. Aditya and I are friends, but we barely get time to hang out.

So is there somebody you are seeing?
No. Right now I'm concentrating on this show. I'm also busy with my playback singing. I'm singing for three movies.

Zee's Rock and Roll Family, the very unique dance reality show showcasing the talents of three generations of a family has now faced its first hurdle, just weeks after being on air!

The buzz around is that the two families participating in the show, the Kapoor family from Jaipur and the Ubale family have defied all rules of the show and the channel is very annoyed with them. Well, the cat is surely out of the bag now, as one of the members of the Kapoor family who claimed to be the son, is not even their blood-relative. In the case of Ubale's, the family's grandmother who has been loved by all turns out to be Ubale's sister!! The channel and the show caught in the midst of these misquoted identities calls for a fair deal now, and going by the format of the show, the channel is contemplating packing off these families now.

Satish Dutt, the Director of the show throws more light on how these revelations about the families caught their notice. "At the time of auditions, every participant had to fill up forms and sign legal papers mentioning their relationship with one another. These two families were to do the same. But at the time of signing a legal bond, the Kapoor family declared that their son was adopted by them, as his real parents couldn't bring him up. Also, the Obale family when continuously asked to sign the legal paper came out with the fact that the old lady was actually the sister!"

Well, how is the entire matter being handled now? "We have sent our investigating team to get more facts on this story. Though the families have pleaded that their real intention was to take part in the show and not to cheat them, Ajay Devgan, one of the judges on the show, got really wild with the turn of events", confirms Satish.

It is heard that when the fact opened up, Ajay got very livid and demanded that these families be sent home, as they cannot be allowed to break rules. Satish adds on, "We are indeed in a state of shock about all that happened. Even though investigations are going on, I guess the matter has finally been left to the viewers to decide whether the families should be allowed on the show or not".

A very unhappy state of affairs this, when we think that the show has its concept etched very clearly!!

Vivacious Kajol and ultra sober Ajay make one of the most romantic real-life Jodis in Bollywood. Kajol at her mischievous best sluicing down Ajay in the above picture says it all. The couple was spotted having a gala time playing Holi at their Juhu residence.

Looking at the scene one can surely appraise the beautiful relationship the couple share. The couple will also been seen onscreen soon in the romantic flick U, Me Aur Hum. Wonder, what must've been the scene on the sets of the film considering the fact that Ajay himself is the director of the film.
