In a show which has many intriguing characters, Sudha stands out significantly...perhaps it's the fact that she's only been shown twice so far, with mysterious dialogues, a bit of a bipolar streak, sharp mood swings, a ruthless streak and clearly a huge vendetta against Lal Mahal and it's occupants...
What also stands out is Sangeeta's superb performance in a role different from what she's usually typecast as...I must also mention the use of tight close-ups by the director to bring out the play of mirth, mischief and ruthlessness in Sudha...one moment she is giggling and preening over her beauty, and the next second she's talking of Kaal, haq and maatam...one moment she's crying all heartbroken, then suddenly dropping the act and mischievously saying that crying doesn't suit her...
In the midst of all of Sudha's antics stands the hapless maidservant Nainađ...who seems to be constantly terrified by Sudha, at the receiving end of all her mercurial and psychotic mood swings...one day Sudha muses that Laal rang maatam ka hota hai, the next day she switches it to Laal Rang HAQ ka hota hai...AAG ka hota hai jo haq chhenne waalon ko jalaa deti hai...
There seem to be some parallels b/w Satrupa and Sudha...beyond the man they both seem to be attached to - Baldev...both Satrupa and Sudha have a faithful maidservant hovering around...Satrupa has Damo and Sudha has Naina...quite a sharp contrast in the roles those women have in their lives...one is treated almost as a peer and a confidante...the other is constantly abused...
Many chapters remain to be unfolded but clearly Sudha is burning up inside over how her HAQ was stolen from her...and Satrupa on the other hand is mainly concerned with holding on to her power in the family...I'm looking forward to seeing the clash b/w these two women...
