Mumbai: Twenty-four-year-old TV actor Habib Mithiborwala is proud to be standing on his feet and playing cricket at home. Nothing exceptional about it?

The actor has had more than two dozen surgeries and had 60 per cent of his leg muscles removed so that his leg could be saved from amputation.

Habib's ordeal started when he passed out inside his car for more than 12 hours during the Mumbai deluge on July 26, 2005.

He woke up the next morning only to realise he suffered from something called the compartment syndrome which parlaysed the lower half of his body.




Compartment syndrome is the compression of nerves and blood vessels within an enclosed space, which could lead to impaired blood flow, muscle and nerve damage.

"I cannot feel anything below my knees but even then I drive a car and play cricket," Mithiborwala said.

The incident has made the actor bid a temporary farewell to his television career and now he handles his father's timber business.

"In showbiz if you're away for long then people don't remember you," Mithiborwala said.

A quintessential Mumbaikar, a smile never leaves his face as he gets along with his life content with his belief that everything happens for a reason.

"There is nothing impossible. Even in impossible things there is some bit of possibility," Mithiborwala said philosophically
