God really needs to help out that pair , what with Laila being such a pain..

Thakur- Mala jodi is another confusing thing.. He kind of adores her but does not bother to trust or confide in her, more like a trophy wife for him I think.. Why Mala aunty would leave her son n husband, i hope that is explored in a future task..

May be when Mala aunty clears things with Rudra, he will be able to understand himself better...

P.S.- DONOT insult Thakur-sa!! I can be violent you know..

Nyc question tho. Gets ya thinking.

Yeah that seems likely, they were rather comfortable in their relationship without emotion, to consider or demand anything more. Paro clearly wont settle for less..

I think even Paro is coming to terms with this question. Laila was in love with him that's why she tolerated his no name relationship. He went to only her for all those years that's why she tolerated him. It was 8 years that they were together. They exclusive to each other for 8 years. Even if Rudra didn't marry her, she acted the part he wanted from her. After 8 years, I don't think it was wrong for her to expect that he may be saying no commitments but he meant this will go on forever. He always said he wouldn't marry and that he can't love anyone. But he did come to her night after night. She had to believed that he was committed to her. 8 years is at that age (25-30) is more than half his post pubescent life. That is a commitment. You can't blame Laila.

Rudra may be melting for Paro, but he always maintained that he does not love Paro. The marriage was forced on him. The question she asked if he loved Laila was answering many questions. One of which was if Rudra was ever going to love Paro as she saw a parallel here between herself and Laila. The second was the obvious if she had come in between Laila and Rudra's love and if she was the other woman.

Even now, Rudra hasn't accepted Paro as his love. The night Laila showed up, he was telling Paro just that. To never expect any love from him ever.

We can't make assumptions that he can not mean what he says to one and not the other. Actions do speak louder than words, and here the balance leans towards Laila.

Put that way, it seems likely Laila's master plan will back fire and it might end up extracting the elusive commitment if not a love confession for Paro from Rudra.. She might just be goading him to do the last thing she wants..

One thing i liked in this entire track is how each of them- Rudra, Paro and Laila are justified in their thoughts if not actions.. Laila is not wrong in thinking Rudra who did not commit to her in 8 yrs wont do so to anyone else.. The arrival of Paro shatters her plans of continuing with the relationship without commitment inefinitely and she lashes out.

Paro is quite right to be shocked and will need some time and space to sort out her feelings. But she still cares a lot for Rudra and hopefully will make a rational decision in the end..

Rudra has always made his stand clear whether its Laila or Paro and expect the same from Laila- to stick to the terms of the deal.

So how the story progresses from here is crucial, maintaining the balance is crucial..

That's a really good question...why doesn't he have an emotional bond with someone he spent 8 years with? I think it may be because the physical relationships don't mean much to him and the fact that Laila just consented to everything he asked for prevented any emotional bond from forming. Whereas for Paro, the relationship is not physical (yet) and she is always there to look out for him and care for him, something that Laila never did. Good question though 👍🏼

Laila in the begaining has no problem with their arrangement but with time she started getting attached with Rudra emotionally but she was still ok with her life as she knew that if Rudra is not hers than he has no one else in his life.So for her- she possess Rudra but with Paro entry she feels threatened. She thinks it was her right although she was very well aware of the condition of this relation so I think she is at fault.

For Paro Rudra is the only man she has seen in her life (handsome too) he is rough and tough but always took care of her .It was not hard for her to love him.

Coming back to Rudra Paro you can never know how when and with whom you will fall in love . But yes it starts him being her protector.Even parents protects their more innocent child over a more smart one.

Everyone loves a more innocent adorable one over a spoiled ,naughty, over smart one.

I think in this situation Rudra is not at fault and Laila is being possessive and she also does not actually loves him

@ Red- Wow, that was profound.. I guess such relationships exist just becuse its comfortable- nothing challenges you and things just float by smoothly.. But one may start feeling a little stagnant at some point..

@ green- Sums up Laila well.. Her rationalisation for her actions..

edit: if you want to read the surmise of my response scroll down to the green bit at the bottom...and if you're interested in reading my long-winded thoughts, continue on...

Why does Rudra who remained emotionally detached from Laila for eight years fall for Paro in, say, eight weeks?
Firstly why he falls in love with Paaro, or if not love then at least become attached in away he never was with Laila

See, with Laila he choses the relationship and therefore it is on his own terms and hers'...for like he says she agreed to his terms and therefore was a mutual agreement...to have a physical relationship...but with Paaro it is a forced relationship.

Circumstance forces them together and makes him her protector, he wants nothing to do with her and she with him, they both hate each other...she because he kills her husband n baraat, plus she has been poisoned against BSD just the way Rudra has been poisoned against females...so neither want to be together but neither have a choice, circumstance throws them together, for she becomes his prime and only witness...because of this not wanting to he has to take care of her and she because of him has nowhere to go...in order to survive they need each other...she doesn't want to survive but her teachings won't allow her to take her own life for she knows that is gravely wrong...so now they are in this situation where they absolutely detest each other but are forced to live together...

This forced relationship forces them to actually get to know one another...Rudra needs to learn about her in order to figure out how to crack her and get her to sign the statement that will put Tejawat behind bars...thus he is required to actually spend time with to understand her...something he never does with Laila...so Paaro is the first woman he trully makes an effort to get to know, to understand, to take a look inside her heart and the more he looks the more intrigued he is...for nothing breaks her (because she is already broken, he broke her by killing her husband) and whatever is left is hell-bent on proving that she is right and he is wrong...the more he gets to know her the more in awe he gets...because her will power, her determination impresses him, like he says 'ye aag ubaltha hosla, ye bahaduri, agar tum ghalat logo ka saath nahi deri hothi tho waki iski tareef kartha.'

She intrigues him and as time passes he realises she is innocent, not only of the crimes but a very innocent person and therefore in grave need of protection because she thinks her killer is her protector and her protector her killer...it angers him that she doesn't believe him even after all the times he has saved her...he doesn't understand her and that intrigues him further...ever heard of the phrase curiosity killed the cat well that is what happens with Rudra, curiosity kills him...that is the animal and revives the human...for as he spends time with her he realises the only moments he actually gets through to her is when he talks from the heart or soul...severity doesn't scare her or intimidate her, for she has lost everything therefore has nothing more to loose plus she knows he will not hurt her as she is his only witness...so in order to get through to her he unlocks the human being in side...when he does he not only opens the way for the human in him to get out but a way for another being to come in, without realising it...

so what I am saying being forced to live with Paaro in order to protect her, humanises him...forces him to act humanly towards her and also forces him to get to know her...now when someone spends time with another person two things happen, either you start liking them or hating them...Rudra starts like her...this doesn't mean he falls in love straight away what it means is that he begins to trust her, find a friend in her...a friend he never had before...because she is a true friend who not only listens but makes him listen...she calls him out on his wrongs...another thing Laila doesn't do...Paaro not only makes him realise his mistakes but forces him to correct them...and he does because her opinion matters to him...why? Because he has established that she is a good person and at the end of the day he strives to be a good person too...someone who is whole and together...that is why he starts to listen to Paaro...because he wants to let go of his past, get rid of the darkness...like he says in todays episode he stops coming to the bhooth bangla because the loneliness stops being his friend but rather a painful reminder of how empty he is...he goes looking for a way to complete himself but doesn't find it, even though he thinks he does...he thinks that with Laila he manages to get rid of his loneliness but he doesn't instead he just stops feeling...the loneliness doesn't go away so he just shuts it out...until Paaro comes in his life and forces it out of him...once it comes out she shows him the way to get rid of it forever...that is why he forms a bond with Paaro because she trully helps him to get rid of his emptiness by trully being there for him...

Why he doesn't fall for Laila or doesn't feel anything for her?

Well I have hinted at it above...it is because he never opens up to her...yes he shares his past with her... but what does she do about that...nothing as far as we can tell, she doesn't heal his pain, she only makes him forget it.

Sleeping with her helps him lock away his feelings...because for men making love and having sex are two different things...one often hears/see's in movies, shows where men who have been with other woman, claim to have the best sex only with their lover...why because when they sleep with them it is more than the physical act, it is a showcase of how they feel...

he beds Laila, even shares some of his past with her (most probably when drunk, considering the way he treats her it doesn't seem like he would open his heart willingly to her) but he never shares a life with her...in those eight years he only spends the night with her...nothing more...any day to day interaction is business nothing more...and night is also business in a sense, where they lead a no-strings-attached relationship...he never makes promises and she accepts that because she is a prostitute, it is her work...I say this because it may not have been said explicitly on the show but it is implied...one because she introduced as a nachne wali/thamasha wali...two her dressing and language (in many indian movies and soaps you will prostitutes adorning a similar style, esp the abundance of bangles in the one hand and the other completely empty) three he says in his story he went to a place to lose himself, get drunk and physical with a lady...i.e. a brothel, four Laila's dialogue about three kinds of men to Paaro n then her friend in the market place where she learns of Parud marriage...all point to her being a prostitute...oh and one more thing...at the haldi rasam when she tells rudra she loves him she says for 8yrs I did not let anyone else touch me, that means before rudra she has been with other men...

anyway the point is somewhere along the 8yrs be it the very first time she meets rudra or somewhile late she falls for him...she never lets him know instead just keeps the no-strings-attached relationship...happy with that and rudra has no clue that this person is in love with him...hence his shock at the haldi rasam...this is the first he hears of love from her, if he had known earlier he would have most likely ended it a long time before to not let it get messy, just the way he does so when she tells him at the haldi rasam...because he doesen reciprocate her feelings...

but does he harness any feelings for her...yes there is a bond between them too...how can there not be one they have known each other for eight years...but just because you have been with someone for 8yr doesn't mean you have to love them it can be a friendship too...and that is what rudra feels friendship for her...like he says i considered you a friend that is why I'm letting you off for nearly trying to kill Paaro...and that is why he cover's her back when she shows him the wounds and that is why he doesn't instantly push her away when she hugs him in todays episode...

plus her words confuse him that is also why he doesn't push her away...because she talks about seeing love in his eyes...for her...but one thing he is sure about is that he doesn't love her, never has...he doesn't even need to think about that he answers it straight away when Paaro asks...but he is left wondering that if Laila has seen love in my eyes then is there actually love there and if so for who? Because he doesn't realise he has started to like Paaro...he only knows that he trusts her and can't see her hurt or upset especially with him...but he doesn't know what love is...and therefore doesn't know he loves Paaro...

so long story short...he loves or forms an attachment towards Paaro becuase life forces them together, where then Paaro forces him to open up and let her in...where as Laila he choses to be with and therefore choses the terms of their relationship too and that is why there is a cordial bond between them but nothing more...whereas between him an Paaro he forms and emotional bond for neither decide the terms of their relationship they are left to explore it...that is what I think...wow...I could have really just written this paragraph instead of the whole essay...sorry for making you read through my ramblings...when it is basically what I have written above, in my opinion anyway...that with paaro he forms and emotional relationship whereas with laila it is a physical one...much in the way we have personal relationships and professional relationships...we are attached to the personal ones, i.e. our family and friends and detatched to the professional ones, i.e. work collegues/class mates who we don't really socialise much with...

why we form such relationships where some people become our really good friends and some just people we say hi too...well thta comes down to who we click with doesn't it...so in a way you can also say...he falls for paaro becuase he just does and he doesn't for Laila because he just doesn't...there is no solid reason...it is what it is...

lol...I'm not sure whether I have made much sense or managed to answer your question...but your quesiton left me thinking and resulted in this humungus comment...😆

edit 2: I just remembered to add to the last bit about what's meant to be is meant to be, as in it is what it is, you love one n not the other...I remembered Danveer's quote on when Rudra questions how Paaro can suddenly just fall in love with him when she hates him not two days previous...he says the moment of truth...is called a moment because it happens in a moment...n when that moments comes it changes eveything...just the way it changes everything in Paaro's life...the moment of truth comes and she realises rudra is her protector and right...n then a 2nd moment of truth comes when she discovers the doll...seeing that makes her believe in destiny, something she has always believed in but it is not until she see's the doll does she realise that she is destined to be rudra...

n another reason why rudra may have started to fall for paaro is because she confesses her love to him...he doesn't understand how someone like her can love him...and he even asks n she says i don't know why I only know that I do and that is why i put up with all your anger because I love you...she falls in love with him and ever since she does she makes him feel that love every moment of everyday, forcing him to stop being mean and actually start caring, whereas when Laila falls for him she doesn't make him feel it may be if she had then may be he may have started to feel something for her too...but when she does try and make him feel her love it's too late he has already fallen in love with Paaro so now he can't fall in love with her...so he ends it with her, in hope she will move on...but she doesn't n she is back n now he doesn't know what to do...

Wow bang on post, an absolute pleasure to read. Your explanation is very logical and evidence is provided to back up your points, which makes your argument/explanation more strong, valid, and legitimate 👍🏼

Thanks for your detailed explanation.. Its clear you have given much thought to it..

Makes a lot of sense.. Paro challenges him and makes him introspect, to look deeper within himself to uncover the rakshak, the man who can care, the boy who loved and lost from beneath the mask of the jaanwar he dons to protect himself from all emotional hurt.. Laila on the other hand is happy having the animal and is displeased he is capable of anything else..

In a way you have also pointed to what can be wrong with a lot of relationships in general. When a sense of complacency sets in, life is merely a routine to go through with, there is nothing to push you,it all comes to a stand still..

Good point about how Paro's opinion matters to Rudra.. As a person who has not cared for anyone's opinion, least of all Laila's, Paro makes him re-think about his decisions and choices..

Thanks again for the reply.. This gives hope for their future, in a rational way too..

Oooh, I do like your post.
My answer actually questions the founding assumption of your question-- that Rudra is in love with Paro.

I don't believe he is. Anymore than I believe that Paro is in love with him.

Unpopular opinion though this may be, I feel Laila is the closest to harbouring something akin to 'love' in her heart.

Rudra's obsessive protection of Paro feels just that...obsessive. He is probably attracted to her. And he has been established as her protector very early on the show. But what does he really know about Paro? The person she is? I can probably count on my fingers the number of meaningful conversations he's had with her. I am highly skeptical of 'preordained, divine love stories'.

Paro's obsessive devotion also feels...obsessive. He saved her life on multiple counts, and by force of circumstance, she's had to rely on him for various things after her life fell apart. He is just about all she has left. Paro looks like she's latched on to Rudra by virtue of various delusions, more than any genuine feeling. We know that Paro is blindly superstitious and religious. His being named Rudra was half the battle won in her head. The doll incident clinched the deal. Oh, and his brawny self and fab hair also helped.

Laila, unfortunately, has now gone the easy-psychotic-vamp way, but I had always found her one of the most interesting characters on the show. I point-blank refuse to believe that you can sleep with one woman every night for EIGHT years, share various parts of your life with her, work with her, eat with her, and yet feel nothing for her. He may not have loved her, but if he felt no attachment/affection at all, it doesn't look very good, I'm afraid. Laila clearly is very, very attached to him. One may argue themselves blue in the face about 'just sex' and things being 'different for men', but I'm not buying it. Men, even men like Rudra, aren't ALL that different from women. And that degree of intimacy for such a prolonged period is bound to leave its mark.
I'm not interested in arguing about what promises he may have made or not made to Laila. What I am interested in his how they feel about each other. I resent the implication I've seen in many other posts that Laila's love isn't 'love' because it is selfish and Paro's is true love because it is 'divine'. That is bullshit. ALL love is selfish. Even a mother's love (closest thing we come to selfless love) has shades of self-interest. Paro's obsessive 'you-must-marry-me' stance is just about as psychotic as Laila's 'I-own-you' stance. Paro, being the heroine, didn't try to kill anyone, but looking at this story objectively, I'd sympathize far more with Laila's cause than with Paro's. Of course, we've been told that we must ship Paro-Rudra and therefore Laila doesn't stand a chance-- and normally I'd be okay with that. Desi TV is enormously regressive that way, and I know what I signed up for.

My problem is that logic aside, I just don't buy the PaRud love story. I don't believe in it, it doesn't touch me or make me root for them. I don't believe that Rudra loves Paro anymore than I believe Paro loves Rudra. On the other show that must not be named, the hero would probably have made more sense with his first fiance, and she probably had greater claim to him as well. But I still shipped the lead couple because that was the faith they inspired in me. I felt bad for ditched-fiance, but I BELIEVED that the lead couple were in love and meant to be. That is the difference, I guess.

P.S. Sorry for going ape-shit on your post; I got excited because I saw a post I agree with/understand after so long! 😆

Hey Deeps
great question and some great answers on this thread - working our Rudra and his feelings is no easy task!

well my twopence worth is that I think that Paro loves Rudra for who he really is and Laila loves him for who he was pretending to be.

Somehow Paro saw through his exterior and refused to take his 24hr gussa and believe it. She challenges him about his pretence and sees what the real Rudra is like and needs ( now how she does this maybe a diving thing or a soul-mate thing I do not know) Paro too has had a hard life - but she deals with it very differently from Laila and Rudra- maybe due to her close family

Laila also loves him - but just the side he showed her- maybe if he had opened up she would love the rest of him too - but then again that might make him the 'mamma's boy' she's not too fond of/. The way he treats her seems to confirm her thoughts about herself in a way - can she allow herself to be loved in a more than NSA kind of way?

Does Rudra have any feelings for Laila - I am sure he does but those feelings are not love, maybe more attachment and as he said habit. I think the habit and liking speech was significant - it's hard to break a habit but nearly impossible to change a liking, and as for soul-mate connection true love - now there's no way you can change that- once it happens that's it

To Msfrootie -I am sorry to reply like this I do not know how to copy your post here believe it or not but once I have personally met a 70+ old women about 3years back we were just talking casually at a bus stop and we started talking about children and she said she has none I said "sorry about that" to that she replied "i am not as I never wanted any in first place because I have always been other woman all my life since last 50 years and I do not regret it I made that choice" so when I was watching the first seen between rudra and laila where she admits that she is happy that she is not his wife and states "ghatr, bartan or bacchae sambhalti to tujhe kab sambhalti" instantly reminded me of that woman of bus stop.
I do not live in India and this woman was not an Indian but the point is there are females out there with this thinking, or mind set
I hope this clarifies my previous post.
I am sorry if I sounded too blunt or harsh in red as I am not very good in expressing my thoughts in words I am learning and trust me I have come a long way through India forum by reading lot of FFs by some wonderful writers
