So now that I have re-read it, here's what I get:

Enough warmth to make me glow with pleasure on the coldest Rajasthani night. And that's not taking into account the sheer joy and awe that stayed with me all through the day at the thought that you'd dedicated one of your beautiful creations to me. Still can't believe it, and still totally delighted. There are a few 'firsts' that are memorable in one's life. This one I will treasure.

Back to the story. I loved all of it - so thought I'd just give you my reader reaction to some of the bits that stood out for me:

I loved the opening para - gave us the time, place, set the mood, engaged us straight away.

# She sat down on the floor by the open door, leaning against the warm stone walls of the haveli

Loved this line - can feel her soaking in the warmth of stone to counter the chill of the Rajasthani night.

# But how could he put his life in danger by riding that monster of a bike at night through empty roads winding among desert sands when he was drunk?

Loved the vivid image although it left me anxious too for Rudra's safety.

# "Hey Bholenath, please protect him. He is incapable of looking after himself. He knows only to take care of me.

Loved your insight and her worry.

Paro heard the sound of her Major Saab's bike. Her heart chanting prayers of gratitude, she sprang up from the floor and ran out of the door.

Reacted much like me 😆

If he was drunk, she could go to him without fear of being called a loose woman. If he was not, then she would get an earful...

Ahhh I see... and the suspense builds...

She walked to him on silent, hesitant feet.

"Major Saab?" she called softly.

"Parooo," he replied, his speech slurred.

Gratified 😃

He coiled his left arm around her, pulling her snug in to a side embrace.

And here's the heat...😆

There was no one to witness their waddle.

This is so cute!!

"Our room," he repeated as he let her lead him towards it.

"Yes," she said.

"Yours and mine," he whispered.

YUM!!

She helped him to sit on it, almost falling on to his lap in the process.

Hayee!! if only she had...but how cute and hot.

"Look at me, Rudra," she whispered, cupping his face in her hands.

Loved the growing intimacy.

"You will return to me, Parooo?" he asked, his tongue rolling around the words.

Paro swooped down and dropped a gentle kiss on his forehead.

Loved the physical reassurance.

Paro moved to the door on quick feet, shut and locked it and returned to her husband. He was looking at her, his eyes trained on her figure.

Aha!! He's noticing her. The suspense builds again.

"Let me help you out of your clothes," Paro suggested.

And so does the heat...😉😆

"No," Rudra pouted.

Tease!!

"They have all the dust in Rajasthan on them."

Loved this line.

"If you want to remove my clothes," he paused.

Paro frowned at him.

"You have to give me a..." Rudra pointed at his cheek with an unsteady finger.

The devil!! 😃

Paro's lips trembled in a smile.

"Doongi," she promised. "As many as you want."

And she's not fazed!!! 😃

"You are so strong," Paro whispered, touching the warm skin of his shoulder. The muscles rippled under her touch. He turned his face away, clenching his jaw.

Her fingers traced the scar of the bullet wound he had taken for her. She swallowed in pain. How hard he had tried to protect her!

"You put your life on the line for me, many times. Why, Rudra?" she asked, cupping his face in her palms.

Loving Paro's growing boldness and how it affects him. Hot and sweet.

"What will you do if I tease her?" he challenged her, laughter underlying his slurred words. "What will you do?"

Ahhh the build-up...

he was naked without his shirt. After wrestling with her, he managed to overpower her, crushing her beneath him.

Cute and hot

"Parooo," he said, waiting for his kiss.

Paro lifted her head and kissed him on his cheek.

"Aren't you hungry?" she asked.

He nodded.

Ahhh poor Rudra will go hungry again tonight. 😉😆

Paro arranged the pillows at the head of the bed to his maximum comfort. "It is late. Lie down, Rudra," she invited.

He leaned forward and placed his head on her lap.

Loved this.

"Why do you drink every night, Rudra?" she asked softly. "Is it so difficult to see me as your wife? Do you need to drink to tolerate me in your room?"

Rudra smiled.

Oooh! Makes my heart flip over.😆

"What if you have an accident at night?" she asked, the fingers of her right hand on his heart. "Do you know how much I worry about you?"

He turned his head in to the soft, silky skin of her waist. His hand came to capture her fingers and hold them pressed against his heart.

Stole my breath, this did. 😳😃

Rudra took the bottle of whisky from the cupboard in his official quarters, broke the seal and poured a little of the amber liquid in to a crystal glass...He smiled.

Loved this entire section. The twist, breathtaking, - the thought of this so much more experienced lover and the innocent he was initiating, while allowing himself to let go too. And of course, loved his smile - devilry and sweetness.
