Coming to Paro specifically, weirdly enough, I really don't have that much of a problem with the depiction of her relationship with Rudra, mostly because it is a daily soap which needs to run for some time, and if you don't have a passive heroine who basically lets the hero be a douchebag to her, you do not have any possibility of growth i.e. further episodes in which he can regret and apologise (I hope, *fingers crossed*). The thing that disturbs me most about Paro is her self-centredness (Yes, brickbats, I know you're coming for me). Strange when she is meant to be exactly the opposite. She believed Thakur, so she stuck to him. Now she believes Rudra, so she glues herself to him. There is the occasional scene where she stands up for Maithili and so on, but, mostly, nothing concrete. I can't figure out if this show is Rudra-centred, or the-Rudra-centred-Paro-centred (Confused? Me too!) If the latter, then in the midst of all this, where is Paro's identity? Being an uneducated village belle, I do not expect her to turn into a biz-whiz anytime soon, but what about her family? Her village? What was the hinge of the show's beginning, and the Paro-Rudra conflict, the whole existence of the main villain, all of it just went up in a puff of smoke.

Right now, I find RR super-enjoyable for all the wrong reasons. And that is sad, because god knows I really wanted to enjoy this show. SI carries off Paro through her oodles of charm, but otherwise, the writing needs to get better asap.

I'll share your brickbats, I'll agree with you. Self-centredness? Maybe. But what if it's other glossing over IN the show that make her look like that. Yes, she gave a doll to a random boy. Is that enough evidence of her altruism? Yes, she supported Maithili, but nothing came off that. Why was the track there for a grand total of five episodes? Why are issues forgotten as soon as they are touched upon? Blame the ratings.

I also feel that Paro has some agency, and instinct, but they are often driven in the wrong direction. Someone else pointed out- the next step should have been to rescue/make aware the people of Birpur about Tejawat. She's doing things, which have an okay-ish explanation. I find it hard to believe that she would trust Rudra more than Mami, who brought her up. She met her Mami ONCE after the fiasco. And their bond seems too formal, as well (why does the Mami call her bai-sa?).

And yet, I can't call her selfish because there are far too many loopholes in characterisation. Like there isn't enough proof to dismiss her as that either. I dunno. I'm really just confused.

There are some out there who think we're "stupid" that we're trying to "ship Rudra and Laila" off. Come on Sem, what is WRONG with us? Why are we obsessed with Laila? She's a sl*t, a naachnewaali who cannot become a gharwaali. She's just Rudra's past. SHE did wrong by expecting anything out of Rudra, because Rudra had stated the terms earlier. Yeah, Stripe, She's a bi*ch.

(Sigh. I can't even... WHY do we waste time reasoning on this forum?)

I can't tell you how starved I am for reason these days. I need an outlet!

*Runs to take your hugs*

Because I'm cross at my own Mamma. She made Puris and served me last! Can you imagine??? No. Really. She calls out my name ONCE. Never responds to my screams of "WHAT?" When I go and see her, she forgets what she wanted from me.

okay ...the faith is like sati or savitri or some mythological character , even it is like that they should do it well even that is rushed

the story of pavati and shiv ji or any mythological character it never happened this way
sati was in denial about her feeling for shiv for a very long period , that made the story believable

here after the takur episode she suddenly realizes rudra is her man after that doll is found

they are drawing similarities and try to reason action taken example of shiv and parvati to show rudra and paro are meant to be together like shiv and parvati is , so parvati undergoing all this torture is fine
this is a way of story telling
but my issue is when they want to draw comparison with shiv parvati story here , they should not mock it

@smriti
she is not us , she is different from us, hmmm
but i understand when i read a story about a superman , or animated characters or a mythological story where it is gods and goddess , they are not like me nor are their priorities
if we only understand ourselves and our small world ,it is a dangerous world
the problem i see is there are projected a normal girl as "parvati " to reason all what is going on with her , and get her married
they havnt decided whether she is to be made as real or surreal

P - I have never liked bringing godly references and comparisons in serials, although like sex, religion sells too. I find Hindu texts have so many variations and interpretations and hidden meanings (not the ones we freely serve here like hot cakes), that finding one version of it without offending someone is hard. But it sells, so we have the Shiv Parvati references.

I've always been very uncomfortable using characters of a show to embody Shiv, Parvati, Ram Sita etc. If you want to do it, instantiate it and contemporize it to current times. Making Paro stand on one foot in the rain does not contemporize it, rather it ridicules the mythology, which was set in a radically different time/space continuum. Its like taking the Old Testament of the Bible and giving it a very literal meaning and expression.

i couldnt agree more
more than sells , what i dont agree with is how they are drawn a literal and direct reference by making paro stand on one leg
sublte i wouldnt have had a problem
this is not symbolism , this is referencing
they want to get to that hate marriage as soon as possible , accepted , but is it required to damage everything on the way
army , parvati ?????
BTW once they reach the hate marriage , then what , all this parvati -shiv will be gone without a trace
we will be back to mortal paro dealing with vamp laila and saas kaki

You have pretty much echoed what happens in almost every other serial in Indian television with a similar storyline as RR.
The female protagonist tends to be the one crafted with least care after some time into the show. The male at the same time tends to be very consistent and logical.

I cant understand how anybody can dismiss or even fail to notice Laila's utter loss. I k ow its Rudra and Paro 's story.. we r not to know about Laila's depth... but still cant you feel for her as a woman.

I cannot explain this without referring to the, ahem, other show. Plot differences aside, there too we had similar tropes of emotionally-unattached hero, and a sexually-aware (and active) second lead who got dumped in favour of the virginal, sati-savitri heroine. Yet I never really was as interested in Lavanya as I am in Laila. Why? Because the RR-writers specifically showed Rudra-Laila as not just bed-buddies (I really am trying to use polite language here) but also confidantes, which suggests a degree of intimacy and trust which was never present in the Arnav-Lavanya equation, which had been depicted as superficial at best. Add to that the oft-repeated 8-year timeframe, which is huge, for a mere relationship of convenience with a nautch-girl. I don't think anybody here has missed the Devdas-tones of this love triangle. Which is why I might not ship Rudra-Laila, but it hugely disappoints that thewriters are being so utterly callous with the character. I keep hoping they'll do better, because it's all such a big waste of their own writing otherwise.

@Exprimere: Confused is my RR-buzzword. Kya bolun ab.
Also, I have similar experiences with moms and pooris. Which is why now I've taken to frying them myself. At least this way I get to eat them straight out of the kadai, and keep the mater happy as well. Ek teer...etc 😆
