Excellent post!

With a forum flooded with drool posts, it made me wonder if something is wrong with me. A complete sense of deja vu today. Domestic violence was lapped up as passionate, hawt, what have you.

The scenes were anything but passionate, romantic or hawt. A ruthless man forcing a girl to submit. Invading her personal space to intimidate, A woman desperate enough to burn her palms. A broken woman at the end. That is all I saw.

Thank you.

What was left with me after the episode was the pain and silent cry of a lone woman fighting an almost losing battle for her dignity and principals (however misplaced they maybe for now). Therefore, I even found the song at the mehandi scene distracting and blunting the anguish being shown.

I agree. And I find the songs distracting anyway. I have already watched the song in another context- the movie it belongs to. It never fits.

And of course. All possession and expression of it is oh-so-romantic. What else did the sindoor/blood mark, other than the fact that she belongs to Rudra Pratap Ranawat? Well. I have issues. But I watch and enjoy the show. I'll have to take the whole package with a pinch of salt.

Awesome Post
Paro's pain and agony is more overpowering than Rudra's romantic tactics
I really felt for the character

All jokes apart, Rudra has been swinging between gruff concern and outright sexual intimidation for a while now. I happened to watch yesterday's blood-sindoor bit just before today's episode. And it was CREEPY. Which is what Rudra is trying to be, of course. He's TRYING to intimidate her and get her to sign that paper.
Today's mehendi was only a leetle less creepy. Because there were a few stray moments where Rudra dropped his act and let his frustration shine through.

I can't say it bothers me because RR never claimed to be easy viewing, and I don't think the MAKERS intend it to be overly romantic. (except that weird bit where they played Saiyyara-- but I think they wanted that moment to be a genuine Rudra looking after Paro moment that was not the most well-conceived)

Nonetheless, what if we didn't know that Parvati and Rudra were meant to be shipped? What if they were two inconsequential names that don't match-- say, Amrita and Shrenik, who aren't as attractive as Rudra and Paro? Then what? What if we didn't know the end? Would it still be romantic? Titillating, maybe. Definitely voyeuristic. But romantic?

As far as show is concerned i am absolutely okay wid it.. Rudra's playing mind game here to break her.. And she almost broke inside... Rudra can see that..thats wat he want.. Overall a very good episode.. So Much impact left on me..

I've done it all, even poured hot oil on my hand ...but not willingly ...
though hating yourself / your body enough to hurt your self is a very dark place...

Thus far in the show there has been no romance and given their due I think the writers have reiterated that ...
Rudra vacillates between hatred, goals duty lust and empathy.
Paro has been numb ... (could have been better written) ...but as per the story line she has not progressed beyond the time she saw varun killed and being disowned by her own.

Rudra is using one more method to break her ...and the actor has done well...he creeped me out both yesterday and today...

Yeah... I thought about this too. The scene before the hand burning was sheer, clear intimidation, bordering (?) on harassment. In real life, just imagine this tall, army man bending all over you. It is scary.

But as is the case with all soaps, willing suspension of disbelief is a pre requisite. It was hot, and exciting to watch. I won't say that I was downright repulsed. And that is because I (and many others) have been watching these scenes repeatedly over the years. Be it TV, papers, or any other media platform. Consequently, we get desensitised to such abuse. Treat it as normal. The man being in the "lead" is natural and somewhat desirable across cultures- or so we have been made to believe. Am I to blame? Maybe, for subscribing to such ideas.

I'm glad you pointed this out. Self abuse is never the answer, definitely not a solution. I guess we can continue enjoying the show, but the caveat - do no try this, EVER- applies. Be aware, be happy.

Very well said.
It is a soap and there is a context to be kept in mind.
Forget the hotness of the man or how romantic he may seem it's not like he is doing all that he can to simply torture her so he can enjoy it!
Far from it he himself doesn't want any of this...he is fighting too...to save his mission..and his soldiers martyrdom.
Paro is unwittingly on the wrong side and I admire her resolve to not give in...she has been awesome in showing strength so far.
Rudra had no idea she would go to that extent...his expression when she told him why she burnt her hand clearly said that...and there was no gloating or any sort of victorious look on his face until he took care of soothing her pain first...forcefully yes...but still gently pouring water over her hands..
It's not like he knew she was going to go that far.

As for who won...again it's a soap...the story is written in a particular way...if we draw parallels to the real world a man in Rudra's position would not tend to his captives ankle...would not take a slap for her...would not bother if she burnt her hands...would use a lot more than just psychological torture to break her.

However sensual scenes may be I don't think blatant physical torture would be condoned...there has been a depiction of care from Rudra and he has been shown to not treat Paro just like a witness and only mentally and physically torture her so I think we have to take everything in the context of the show.

the song was not apt , but today though out the episode the sindoor scene or the mehenadi scene what i saw was paro's disgust , not anger- but disgust

and sanaya is a very good actor to convey a wrong expression

frankly this possession because she is my wife BS violence, physical dominance , borderline abuse i dont quite agree on TV not because it is not real , helplessness of paro was emoted so well it is very much real and these things do happen in real life , just that someone who resolves to something close to this is not a hero

Was just going to say. Props to Ashish for being so successfully lecherous. As a traditional male lead, that contrast between desirable-in-a-broken-way, and repulsive-in-a-pervy-way-- that shizz is not easy.
And to still hold audience interest and sympathy! (although the hair flying in the wind does help)

Bold- Very true.

Well, it is about the synch between what the story teller is trying to convey and the narration. If the last scene was Paro and Rudra's battle of will and Paro's anguish of submission, than the song was giving another signal in contrast to the images and the context.
