Today was all about revelations: Varun and Paro's hesitant shared hopes and dreams; Bindi's nightmarish discovery of gun-running by Paro's baraatis, and Rudra's triumphant find of Kesari Ram.
But for all that, it was the burgeoning romance between Paro and Varun that caught my eye and tugged at my heart-strings.
O Re Piyaaa...
There they were, the charming groom and his bashful bride stealing away from the revelry for a secret assignation. "Paro!" He halts her flight away from solitude; from him. She stills, hides her eyes. So he opens his heart: "...let me tell you about myself...I have a job...I've done B.Com. Do you know what that is? ..." A pause while he gauges her reaction. And carries on with his likes: spicy food, sweets and above all khatti imli salt on the side. With this last revelation he strikes gold and is rewarded with a radiant smile.
Now it's her turn. "Do you like me?" She's unsure and her main concern tumbles out. She gathers courage from his dazzling smile and ploughs on. "I can read and write enough for letters...studied till 5th class...never stepped beyond Pipli...lost my parents young..."
A shadow passes over his face..."Me too. I'm an orphan...want a family of my own...a home of my own...my life partner...I know they call you Paro, but I'll call you Parvati, MY Parvati..."
At that, overwhelmed, Paro runs. Races over the hills, feet dancing on the dunes, brimming with joy, face raised to the heavens to thank her Lord. Finally, her prayers have been answered so completely that she is afraid. Her dreams of home and hearth are a hair's-breadth away from becoming reality. Finally it will be her turn to select the wall-paint, to decide where to drill in the nail, where to hang the calendar, her kitchen...All that she's ever wanted, except one - that his name resonate with His.
👏 👏👏What a masterpiece! CVs take a bow.
You had me moist-eyed at this humanising of Varun, who under your pen is not just a stick-drawing but a living, breathing individual with his hopes and dreams on the verge of fulfilment. And Varun is so believable that my heart aches for him already. And for Paro and her quiet dreams. Sanaya is consummate in her portrayal of an unsure orphan who dares to dream of a home of her own, of belonging, and who dare not trust this sudden benevolence.
But just to ensure that we don't lose sight of the thorns in this rosy romance, the CVs gave us two more revelations today:
Bindi's discovery of the gun-running in the haveli and, of course, Rudra and Aman finding Kesari roaming at will in the wedding hall.
Of the two, it is Bindi's find that is more disturbing because we know nothing good can ever come of it. A girl as naive as she, who stands frozen in the doorway in plain sight of a murderous junta, while we scream for her to hide, is bound to be dead meat. And the precap confirms it. Still, it doesn't stop us silently urging poor Bindi to get away and keep her mouth shut. And have to hand it to her, no matter how rattled she is, she does manage to elude the uncle of the groom. The hide-and-seek sequence was nerve-wracking, fairly edge-of-the-seat stuff. But she lives...for now.
Which brings me to Rudraah 😃 . Aah! What can one say about Rudra in a chest-baring waistcoat, except that as a disguise it'd work fine with the girls because they'd never raise their gaze to his face! Although, come to think of it both Laila and Paro made him. Laila, I can understand, she must be familiar with that terrain. But Paro? Hmmm, possibly Paro never caught sight of that expanse in the first place...😳😆
RRight, on to Rudra and Aman's find of Kesari Ram whose fancy for free drinks got him into hot water. So, after a rousing chase through the corridors of power, Kesari Ram had his ass and other parts of him busted in the hope that he'd break. But he hasn't so far. Unless the bullet, which we only heard, persuaded him otherwise.
No doubt we'll find out tomorrow. That and what lies in store for poor Bindi...
