14 years ago my doorbell rang and I was delivered a small black ball of fur with a characteristic white spot on his forehead. A 3 month old cocker spaniel with ears longer than his face and a wobbly walk that could put a drunk to shame, mis...chievous eyes and restlessness of a coke addict!
I decided to name him Mischief!
Our mischief was the apple of our eye , mamma's pet, our baby, our brother our everything.
Not your typical dog, he never brought the ball back to you, hated long walks, lazy as hell, loved to eat, totally totally spoilt, scared of rats or anything that wasn't human.
He ate when we ate, he wanted to eat what we ate, sleep when we slept, he even wanted a mandatory round in the car when dad left for work!
He hated dogs and cats bec he assumed he wasn't one of them, and maybe he wasn't!
Such a friendly thing, He was so loved by friends and family and even those who were afraid of dogs! So intuitive and well mannered. Home trained but understood exactly what one wanted out of him. From gimme kissie to gimme five, Whatsup, shake hands, do ninni etc etc he just understood us like he was one of us.
The last one odd year he was suffering from arthritis cataract, ear tumour, weak heart and a lot of age related issues but he was a fighter! Not one to to be put down, he fought through an ear operation 6 months ago where his chances of survival were only 30 %.
Two days ago he left us to go to doggy heaven. Partly relieved that he's out of his pain but with a very very heavy heart we bid him goodbye to mischief.
