Part 100 A--Fantasy

L'espalier is one of the poshest restaurant in town specializing in high end gourmet combination of New England and French cuisine. A small atrium welcomed them where they checked in and were signaled to the elevator. The place was comfy, dark and plush.

They were greeted by their names, which was very shocking to Khanak, they were asked if they wanted to be seated or would like to enjoy a lesiurely cocktail first. They followed the host to a comfy couch.

He ordered Corton Charlemagne, insisted she should try some. She agreed reluctantly.

Shaan (extending his hand) Hey! I am Shantanu Gujral (smiles)

Khanak: (smiling) I am Khanak (pause) Mistry

They look at each other like they've met for the first time. A slow smile erupts on both their face.

Shaan: Are you here on a business trip?

Khanak: Ummm not sure, a very important one actually (laughs)

Shaan: Oh! Really? Like what?

Khanak thinks my husband wants to make love to me and we are playing the mating game for five months now "Sailing!" she says

Shaan: With who?

Khanak: Someone I met on the plane! (softly)

Their wine arrives, he has ordered non-alchoholic pina colada for her as well, so all three drinks arrive, the waitstaff opened the wine bottle and served

Shaan: Try it!

Khanak: Nahi! (reaching for her drink instead)

Shaan: khanak, please!

She reaches for her wine, sips slowly, it carves a path down her throat

He smiles "Yes, not very dry"

Shaan: So how is this guy you met on the plane?

Khanak: Ambitious, accomplished and

Shaan: And? (waits)

Khanak: articulate?

He chuckles and shakes his head

Khanak: Who are you here with?

The waiter arrives to show them their table

Seared Fisherman's Daughter Gulf shrimp, Champagne, mango, jalapeo, coconut, coriander for himself

Shaan: Have you eaten French food?

Khanak: Nahi, kabhi nahi

Shaan: Its hard to find vegetarian anywhere, you should practice eating meat.

Khanak: nahi!

Shaan: What is your favorite food besides indian?

Khanak: You must not laugh (shy, playing with the rim of her pina colada glass)

Shaan: Stop playing with that!

Khanak: Nahi! (looking at him)

Shaan: Batao!

Khanak: I would say pizza (turning red)

Shaan: Mine is Big Mac!

She looks up at him confused

Shan: yahan MacDonald's mein Big Mac unke signature burgers ka naam hai

Khanak: What is it? Chicken?

Shaan (smiles) beef!

Khanak is shocked

Shaan: Are you upset you didn't ask me this question before? (smug)

She turns red again

Shaan: It doesn't matter Khanak (now that you are married to me I am not letting u go)

Thei appetizers arrive.

The waiter is handsome, with blonde hair combed back, strong arms and long tapering fingers. He looks at her eyes everytime she speaks

Waiter: Enjoy your meal! Can I pur some more wine for for you?

She shakes her head and says "I am good, thanks!"

Shaan holds his glass, the waiter pours, smiles at Khanak and leaves

Shaan: He is shocked you don't drink!

Khanak: Is that why he smiled so much?

Shaan: That was because he found you good looking (serious)

Khanak: Oh! Ummm''

Shaan: That's two in the same sentence (smiles)

He serves for her confidently, Khanak looks at the guests seated around them, talking softly laughing, holding hands, she can hear the tinkle of silverware knock against the fine china. Smells of food, breads, a totally surreal experience

Married to a man like Shantanu, on their honeymoon in Boston, eating at a French restaurant.

"This must a product of my fantasy!"

"Or I am watching a movie with Ritu, and just teleported myself to the leading lady's spot"

"What ever it is, I am going to enjoy it for now"

Shaan: Phir se chup?

Khanak: Ummm

Shaan: Has today been one of the most spoken days for you

She blushes and smiles "Probably!"

Shaan: I am fascinated by how quiet you are.

Khanak: There is nothing fascinating about it

Shaan: For ME there is! You only talk to a dozen people in the world, of which a handful everyday (shocked)

Khanak: Weekends mein us se kam, sirf Ritu (softly)

Shaan waits

Khanak: Ab aap (hongey uski jagah)

Warm color spreads on her face as he looks at her deeply

Shaan: What did you do during weekends?

Khanak: Aapne to dekha (blurts)

Khanak: Kuch bhi nahi, bus soti hoon aur laundry aur movies

Khanak: Aap mujhe kahen agar saara din soti raho to main so sakti hoon (proud)
