Khanak is a role model? Hmmm... but it would b nice if they show in future episodes, that Shaan can be a role-model toofor a good husband, and educate Khanak.

Didn't know being a feminist is such a bad thing. I am a feminist and am proud of it. Feminism stood for so many things, not least of which was women's empowerment in all senses. We are all educated women here, and for us to laugh at such a great movement in history called feminism is just very sad. To celebrate Khanak's 'achievement' , is there a need to make fun of feminists and feminism?

Here is a wiki link on feminism: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Feminism

People here disagree with this? What exactly does feminism mean, to people in this forum? I would be much obliged if someone could clarify.

Forgive me if that laughter abt feminism was supposed to be a joke and I didn't get it. I am not that clever. Sorry.

Gaayu,
@bold: 👏
Exactly my point too!!
Have just mentioned the same in May's thread...time really for Shaan to turn into a role model...not just by vindicating himself and his being (which frankly he should be doing, and is long overdue!!!)...but even more importantly, to do something concrete for his wife...without whom, Shaan without a trace of doubt would never ever have got in touch with himself!!!
That day for me... when Khanak renews her alphabet lessons...gets the basics of her 'Thankus' and 'Pleejs' right...is better equipped to handle mundane chores such as ordering a prepaid taxi at the airport or being explain to her bai the intricacies of a mobile phone independently...will be a day etched in history...
'Cos its not just about being there for your man, but being there for yourself too!! 😊
That for me, will be the first step towards Khanak's empowerment...from one feminist to hopefully another in its complete making! 👍🏼

Rooj,

I do not wish to take attention away from the main topic of this thread. But I do think it is important to know what can be joked about and what cannot be. I could have written this in a PM to you but I want to communicate to all members here...

Members who read posts in this forum come from ages as young as 14. They may not comment, many may be silent readers but they do read. Not all of them will be familiar with feminist history, like you are. Because we cannot tell for sure how our comments will be understood, we have to be careful with what we say. (I don't just mean you, I mean each and every one of us).

I do not understand clearly what you mean by feminism being used negatively in the States. I have lived there too, and I have not come across that. Perhaps you can write more in a pm, if you wish to.

Like Shriya said, people misunderstand feminism to be about male-bashing. Feminism is not about male-bashing. Male-bashing is just male-bashing. It is not a movement in history, whereas feminism was and is.

Some women may think they are superior to men. Many men think they are superior to women. We cannot take these people seriously and allow them to disregard important progresses made in human history.

When someone identifies herself as a feminist, what she means is that she believes men and women are equal, and women should not discriminated upon just because of their gender (that is, saying things like 'you are a woman, therefore you cannot do this'). Feminists believe women have equal right to property, and access to all resources that have been historically denied to them (education, health etc).

I am not suggesting that everyone here declare themselves to be feminists. But I also believe that we women owe it to ourselves not to make fun of all those women who came before us, fought for our rights - to go to college, to inherit property, to vote in elections, to not get beaten up at home, to equal pay, etc...

In short, what I mean to say is this- the discussion about Khanak being a role-model can happen without making declarations of pro-feminism or anti-feminism. It is irrelevant to the discussion on hand, and is not something to be joked about.

Gaayu,

I respect to everything you have said but the thing is that joke was only intended for myself. like I said feminism is defined in many aspects.

I don't know how long you lived in the states for but I've been living here for 11 years now and to my understanding and attending all the gender woman classes, the meaning feminism by many people have been taken as a negative aspect.

The part about history is only a part of what defines feminism.

The reason I joked was only for myself and no one else because I don't fit in all the categories of feminism.

I mean most of the people are aware of how I joke about. most of my posts, if any jokes intended, are related to me only.

im sorry if I offended you in any way but the mention of feminism is not related to an insult towards the word itself.

Gaayu,
@blue: The essence of feminism, really!!! ⭐️
Would take the liberty of using Khanak as an example to put forth my thoughts...
What is it about Khanak, that stood out the most for us...definitely her fiercely independent, no-nonsense spirit!!
The very fact that she did not allow herself to be treated like a doormat at any stage in her journey, helped her carve a special niche not only in Shaan's life, but even the Khandelwals' lives too!
If Khanak had the potential to match up to a Natasha and finally overshadow her, a lot of it had to do with the fact, that she was always her own person! Unafraid to speak her mind...unafraid to show Shaan the mirror!!
And, she did it all, with her trademark dignity intact...
Furthermore, as I have already stated in my previous post, EDUCATION is paramount...
Khanak needs to empower herself by the most basic requirement of them all...to keep that spark alive...to nurture it further...to be an asset in ways more than one!!
Khanak, IMO, is already a feminist...her feminism only needs to get more holistic now!
