The radio is playing Radio Mirchi, India Top 10 Countdown, Khanak is loading laundry in the washing machine, Ritu is "trying" to be productive and failing.
Khanak: Yeh blue kurta, iska color run karta hai na, I shud wash it by hand? (shouts from outside the bathroom)
Ritu: Yeah''. I guess''.. Khanak, chal na bahar khaate hain aaj
Khanak: Nahi, bilkul nahi, there is so much crap to do. Ghar clean nahi kiya jabse Trishna ki shaadi hui (giggles) Shaadi uski, ghar hamara barbaad
Ritu: Why do you care, tu to ja rahi hai na?
Khanak looks at the soap suds covering her engagement ring, her heart leaps, as she wipes off the suds to see the extra sparkle.
Khanak: Arrey, I will be here during weekends.
Ritu: Kyon? (walks by with a cookie in her mouth)
Khanak: Tujhse milne idiot.
Ritu: Nahi main wahan aa jaati hoon.
Khanak: theek, par main kab aaoon yahan?
Ritu: Tujhe apne ghar se zyaada yaha rehne ka mann hai?
Khanak thinks "Apna"?? Hmmm'''
Ritu: Please usko load karke, poha banayegi kya? Ekdum Gujju style mein?
Khanak: Tu paranthe bana na? (smiles)
Ritu: Oh! Hello, agar mujhe aata tha, to I wud never ask you. Julie Sahni, its your passion.
Khanak: Agar tumhe koi kaam nahi karna hai to, Har cheez mein "passion" word daal do. Kyon?
Ritu: Atleast I am trying to make your life "passionate" (mocks)
Khanak blushes, "There is someone who DOES make it"
Ritu: Ab load ho gaya hai, Ritwik ki Mummy Vashi gayi apne sister ke ghar, to us aunty se to aaj kuch milne waala hai nahi, please poha bana na! (pleads childishly)
Khanak: pehle radio ka volume kam kar!
Ritu: pehle poha
Khanak, washes her hands off on the wash basin outside the bathroom, checks herself in the mirror, face scrubbed clean, a high pony tail, a sleeveless white kurta with a plunging neckline and a burgundy churidar. Ritu was laughing @ her when she went to bed last nite wearing it, she said "Ek mahina pehan sakti hai, to barabar, 4, 5 layers pehan le, uske baad, kahan milega tujhe raat ko itne saare kapde? Nahi? "
Khanak had punched her soundly!
Khanak: Sun, please khaakar cupboard clean karne mein help karegi kya?
Ritu: Main to soongi boss! Kal raat ko jo bekaar movie dikhayi toone DVD mein, I have to cleanse myself off of it (shrugs disgusted)
Khanak: Itni kharaab nahi thi alright
Ritu: Engagement ke baad kaun aisi movies dekhta hai yaar?
Khanak: Volume kam kar radio ka (Ritu's phone rings, there is some one at the door)
Ritu: You get the door! (runs to her phone, while the radio continues to blare)
Khanak, sets the onions on the counter and opens the door, it's a brat from 5th floor, Sunny, she sees him running away.
Smiles and shuts the door back and goes back to chop her onions, soaks the puffed rice, and sets her pan out, looks at her ring with each dicing motion''' sets dal in the cooker for lunch, it boils in a few and starts to whistle impatiently.
, The bell rings again, she checks again, it's the brat!
Khanak: Please tang karna band karo, nahi to main tumhari Mummy ko call karti hoon abhi. (shrieks)
Goes off to cook, smiling, singing under her breath.
It's a lovely day outside, not to hot, not to muggy, the windows are open, she can hear kids playing cricket. She can hear cooker whistles from her neighbors' trying to entice her cooker.
She sets the pan, heats oil, throws the lentils and mustard, the onions, "forgot the curry leaves, opens the frig.
the radio plays her favorite song from Ijaazat.
"Katra katra milti hai, katra katra jeene do, zindagi hai
Pyaasi hoon main pyaasi rehne do."
She runs to increase the volume, Ritu starts shouting into the phone in the bedroom signaling its too loud NOW, Khanak smiles and goes off into the kitchen.
The bell rings again, she is mad, opens the door with a " Bus yeh last time hai, ab ek aur baar tang kiya to room mein band kar doongi aur kabhi nahi chhodoongi"
Its Shaan, in his Saturday best, bermudas and a yellow tee.
"Is that an offer Khanak? If it is then I'll take it"😳😳
The cooker can be steamy too! 😆😉
