Part 4C
Shaan's office- Shanak Lunch "date"
Shaan and Khanak tried their best to continue with the project but they both found it hard to concentrate on it. They were distracted by their stomach, more over they were distracted by each other's presence, especially Khanak. From time to time, Khanak would look up at the door as an excuse and would then sneak a look at Shaan from the corner of her eyes.
Shaan noticed her various actions, he even caught her looking at him several times. As he switched from files to files, he sneaked a smile when he would catch her looking at him. He pretended not to notice her tactics so he could spare her the embarrassment.
For the next ten minutes they played the hide-and-go-seek game with each other, mainly Khanak checking him out most of the time. After ten minutes, Khanak lifted her head to check the door again and she saw Sonalika entering the office with their food. The sight of Sonalika with food caused Khanak to squeal in excitement and to get up from her seat. Just as soon as she had done that, she realized her behavior and immediately regretted it because Shaan was looking at her with amusement.
Shaan heard a loud squeal and he looked up to find Khanak up from her seat in excitement at the sight of Sonalika with food. He was surprised at her outburst; moreover he was amused at her behavior. He found the action very cute and found his mouth curving into a smile on its own. When he looked at her questioningly, he saw her sit down and her whole expressions changed in a millisecond, this amused him even more. He thought Khanak to be a very composed person but from this action it seemed to be otherwise.
Even Sonalika found Khanak's behavior a bit surprising but she didn't show it on her face. She knew better than to show any emotions while in Shaan's office. As she came in the room quickly, she left just as quickly.
Khanak was playing with the pen in her hand, while trying to conceal her excitement and her hunger. She was scarred to look up, especially at Shaan. She didn't know what to expect from him. But yet at the same time she was really hungry and couldn't ignore the strong smell of food, which was playing with her nose senses. She sneaked a peek at the place where the food was placed and she found Shaan sitting there, starring at her.
He had his arms crossed, his right leg crossed over left, back leaning against the chair, his left eye-brow up and a small smile playing on his face as he waited for Khanak to join him.
But Khanak didn't move from her spot and instead she looked down in embarrassment.
Shaan moved at the edge of his seat, his legs on the floor and arms uncrossed but the smile still playing on his lips, "I don't plan to eat all this food by myself Ms. Khanak. I would appreciate your company, if you don't mind."
Shaan's softer tone cause Khanak to smile and look up at him and "Thank you!" was all she could say to him before joining him.
Shaan in return smiled at her and then immediately became his naughty self as she joined him, "Thank you? Kiss baat ke liye? Khana toh tumhe bhi khana hai aur mujhe bhi toh phir ye shukriya ada kiss baat ka?"
Khanak looked at him confusingly and a bit worried to talk about her earlier outburst, "Seriously? Abb main…" She helped herself to some Chinese Rice and Orange Chicken, while trying to think of something to avoid explaining herself.
Shaan started laughing at her attempt. Khanak looked at him angrily and with narrowed eyes, "Aap mera mazaak uda rahe hain? Fine, I'm leaving." She got up to leave but Shaan stopped her by holding her hand, while still laughing.
As soon as his touch made contact with her skin, an electricity feeling shot through her arm to her whole body. She felt her blood rushing to her brain. Her breathing became a bit heavy and she lost all her senses.
If Khanak was feeling that way then Shaan was equally affected. He felt the same jolt through his body, His ears were numb and all he could hear was her heavy breathing. His blood was racing ten times faster and his eyes were taking in her appearance. This was the first time Shaan had noticed her during the whole time she was in the office with him.
He noticed that Khanak was adorned in simple but elegant dress shirt, half-sleeves, and informal dress pants. She was in simple attire but yet looked elegant. Shaan felt her hand trying to free from his grip and Shaan's admiring glance was broken.
"woh…ahem," He cleared his throat and let go of her arm, "ahem, mera matlab hai, I wasn't making fun of you. Please don't go."
Khanak still faced the other way when she heard Shaan's request in soft voice. She tucked her hair behind her ear and turned around and once again joined him.
For the next few minutes there was an awkward silence between the two. While Shaan quietly ate his food, Khanak tried not to rush through it but failed miserably.
Shaan, who avoided looking at Khanak the most part, was now sneaking a peek at her from time to time. It seemed the silence was going to be stretched longer than expected till Shaan broke it by commenting on the food, more to himself than to her, "Mmmm! This is so good! Man, I haven't had this food for a while!"
Khanak, who was busy in her own food, looked at him after swallowing her contents, "You love Chinese don't you?"
They were sitting on a small table with two chairs facing each other, in Shaan's office.
Shaan didn't answer her right away and merely looked at her, swallowed his food, took another bite and swallowed again, and then he answered, "Yes I really do love Chinese."
When Khanak didn't say anything, he decided to break the silence again.
"It seems you hate my company and the food," Shaan stated as matter-of-fact.
Khanak gave him a confused expression, "Ummm what makes you think that?"
Shaan took another bit and pointed his fork-held-hand at her and spoke, "Because you haven't spoke a thing since we both started eating and have been looking down in your food for the most part."
Khanak chuckled, "Nahi aisi koi baat nahi hai, I love this type of food as well, along with some other types. I'm just a quite eater."
"Hmmm….Interesting," Shaan went back to his eating, leaving Khanak even more confused than before.
"What? What's interesting?" Khanak asked him in a cool manner.
"Nothing…it's just that….you…" Shaan spoke in between his munching, "like Chinese food…which I got it…when you…" Shaan swallowed, "oh-so-brilliantly jumped on it when we started eating. So I got that part that you love Chinese food but you didn't answer my question completely."
Khanak looked at him confusedly.
"Meaning that you still didn't tell me if you like my company or not."
Khanak nervously looked down at her food, "Oh…Ummm…well," she didn't want to tell him the truth so she lied, "aapki company bas…theke hai."
Shaan stopped eating now. He looked at her as if she is out of her mind. "theke hai? Sirf theke hai?" He couldn't believe what she said.
"Haan, bas theke hi hai," Khanak repeated herself, suppressing a smile.
Shaan was now a bit upset. He didn't know why but he was hoping for more than that answer. He was hoping for something much more positive, along the lines of "I love your company" or something. But all he got from her was a mere "Okay company." He completely stopped eating now and placed his plate on the table and gave her his undivided attention.
"You know what you need? Glasses? Who bhi door ke nazroon walli," Shaan tried to keep the upset tone out of his voice.
"Kyu? Meri ankhon ko kya hua? I'm just fine, I don't need glasses," Khanak was enjoying this now.
"Because you can't see properly. You are sitting here and having a lunch 'date' with the hottest hunk in town, which many girls would die to be in your position, and you are saying that my company is only 'okay'?" Shaan was now upset.
Khanak gave a laugh, "You are funny Shaan, a very good one!"
This irritated Shaan even more.
"Ugh! Tum na…bilkul fatu ho!" Shaan threw his hand up in frustration and tried to leave the table but was stopped by Khanak's hold on his hand.
This time, they felt the same sensations but they ignored it, at least Khanak did more than he did.
"I'm only kidding Mr. Shaantanu, I do enjoy your company, it is silent but it's good."
As Khanak let go of his arm, he turned and sat back down. The rest of their meal went smooth. They talked about general stuff, mainly project stuff and his company's main goal.
As Shaan talked about his company, Khanak was admiring him all through the conversation. He was dressed in Black shirt and jeans, with red tie and his hair were spiked. It seemed they were silky and she wanted to run her hands through them. As soon as she thought that, she was surprised and jolted out of her thoughts and just spent rest of the conversation in daze.
The rest of their lunch "date" went well and after the lunch they went back to their work. Khanak finished her last minute touches and then showed him the project.
Shaan really liked the over-all design that Khanak created but he gave his suggestions in few places and they were ready to work on the next step of their project.
So the rest of the day was spent planning on the event planning aspect.
