We requested Dadi to offer some advice about how Ganesh Chaturthi should be celebrated. Read on to find out what Dadi dearest had to say.
What message do you have for younger generation on the occasion of Ganesh Chaturthi?
It is said that any work that is done after performing Ganeshji's pooja, will be successful. So all I would like to say is believe in him and seek his blessings.
Do you bring Ganpati home? What are the rituals you follow?
No I do not bring him home but we have a statue in our temple at home. I and my family offer bhog on Ganesh Chaturthi day. I prepare traditional sweets like Choorme Ke Ladoo for Ganesh Chaturthi. We enjoy being together on this day.
How have Ganpati celebrations changed over the years?
I have noticed that the number of people who bring Ganeshji home has increased. Previously very few people used to bring his idol home. Also, yes it has become very commercialized. I would advise everyone to avoid creating noise pollution and also request that they are not disturbing other people while celebrating. Enjoy the festival, let everyone enjoy it!
Any rituals or practices that people do not give importance to now and you feel should be followed?
Earlier people used to play bhajans at the pandals but now Bollywood songs are played. I have nothing against Bollywood music, I love to watch movies and listen to music, but once in a while on festivals we should keep our beautiful culture alive by being traditional, get together with family and friends and enjoy the spirit of the festival. And I would like to remind you all if you have decided to bring Ganeshji home then it is your responsibility to take proper care of him.
Happy Ganesh Chaturti! GANAPATI BAPPA MORIYA!!!
