MANDODARI
Other names- Mandodaree

She was the beautiful and pious daughter of the King of Danav, Mayasur and the celestial dancer, Apsara Hema. Mandodari was the patrani (the chief queen) of Ravan, the King of Lanka.

Mayasur was the most gifted of Mayavi Danava (demon having magical powers) who could perform many miracles. Maya and Hema had a daughter, Mandodari and two sons Mayavi and Dundubhi. They fought along with Ravan in all his battles. When Ravan took away by force the aerial chariot, Pushpak Viman, from his older brother Vaishrava Kuber (the God of wealth), he used to roam about aboard the plane with Mandodari. She was thus a favorite of Ravan

Ravan had thousands of wives but Mandodari was by far his favorite. She was very svelte and slim and was named thus because of her slim waist.

Mandodari was extremely beautiful and religious minded. She used to give timely advice to Ravan whenever she thought fit. When Ravan kidnapped Sita from Panchavati and brought her to Lanka, Mandodari tried to persuade him to return Sita to her rightful place by Ram side. But Ravan would not hear of it. Ravan brave son Meghnad was Mandodari offspring. On overpowering Indra, he had won the title Indrajeet.

When Hanuman reached Lanka in search of Sita, he saw Mandodari on the bed besides Ravan in his palace. When he saw how beautiful she was, he wondered if it could be Sita. But he was sure that Bhagwati Sita could not be on the same bed as Ravan and Hanuman continued his search.Mandodari was renowned for her wisdom and grace as well as beauty and chastity. She is often compared to Sita, one of the most beautiful woman described in Indian mythology, for her beauty.

When Ravan went to Ashoka Vatika to threaten Sita into submission, Mandodari was also with him. Mandodari held Vibheeshan, Ravan younger brother, in great esteem. When Kumbhakarn and Meghnad were killed in battle, Mandodari referred to Vibheeshan and tried to persuade Ravan.

When later, Ravan was killed by Rama and lay lifeless on the battlefield, Mandodari wept and lamented about the prediction, and it was true what Vibheeshan had prophesied.

The end of the Rakshas clan and destruction of Lanka are all because of the kidnapping of Sita. Now it all ends with your end. In the Puranas, tales of ancient lore, Mandodari finds mention as an ideal woman.

Once, Maya father of Mandodari was wandering on the earth along with his daughter. By that time Mandodari had attained the age of 15 years and was having lot of radiance and beauty. They were in the dense forests when Ravan, the demon king of Lanka happened to meet Maya. The king of the giants and the demon king introduced themselves to each other. Introducing his great lineage, Ravan begged Maya for his daughter. Maya gladly accepted the proposal and on an auspicious moment married Mandodari to Ravan and gave him a lot of divine and deadly weapons as gifts.

When Ravan kidnaped Sita Mandodari prayed to Ravan not once but many uncountable times. All of her nights used to pass like that. But Ravan did never show disregard for her words, nor did he ever scold her. He simply used to laugh away at her talks, such a serious matter that led to his destruction at last. The behaviour of Ravan towards Mandodari was remarkable because when his real brother Vibhishan tried to convince him to return Sita and make friends with Rama, he had kicked Vibhishan out of the court. On another occasion, Ravan badly reprimanded his maternal grandfather Malyavan for a similar matter. But he never scolded Mandodari for he knew for certain that his wife had always wished well for him in her heart.

Mandodari hailed from Maya Rashtra current days Meerut

Mandodari is one of the Panch Kanyas in Hindu mythology, the othersbeing Ahalya, Draupadi, Sita and Tara. The Panch Kanyas are supposed to signify the Pancha Bootha or the five elements of Nature. Legend has it that all of an individual's sins are washed off simply by uttering the name of these Panch Kanyas.

Wow.... i dint knew Mayavi and Dundubhi was mandodari's brothers. bali killed them both.....
thanks a lot 4 the information shruti 😊
mandodari charracter is one of my fav in ramayan. she has both the wishdom and emotions. she always gave gud advise to others. when meghnath left his last war with lakhsman in the middle after recognizing his real form to give advise to his father to undo his wrongs which ravana denied mandodari advised his son to leave his father and go to ram sharan jus as his uncle. because he should not side the false but indrajeet being a true pitrabhakt denied.
