Am catching up with Ramayan episodes too...
Regarding Chandra's role in his own directed 100% VR, he can be Shatrughan but only thing he'll not be seen or talked about much. But of course he can be seen with his Dhanya onscreen and offscreen then.. 😆😆😆

Welcome back again 😊

Why not let Chandraketu play Ravan 😈 😈 😈

No offense meant - just kidding 😳

There are some resources online as well. Ralph T. Griffith's translations are very good. I really enjoyed reading them. There are a couple of sites that have translated Valmiki Ramayan in prose format too.

In San Francisco, there is a Vedanta Society office, and there, they have a bookstore that has a lot of books on the Ramayan. However, I haven't seen a book that has the original Valmiki Ramayan, w/ original Sanskrit verse, transliterated words w/ meanings, and then translation.

I have however seen a fat 2 inch thick hardbound RCM, which has exactly the format I describe - original verses in shudh Hindi, transliterated verses and then the translations. Easy to follow. Price - ~$80.

Note that there are a lot of Ramayans out there, that call themselves Valmiki, but include accounts Valmiki didn't have - like K-L's Ashwamedha battles. Beware of them if what you are looking for is an original authentic Valmiki.

Online, I follow 2 sources:

http://valmikiramayan.net/

http://www.geocities.com/bhagvatjee/vraamaayan/index.htm

I generally use the former, but it is only partially complete until the killing of Meghnad. For anything subsequent to that, I use the latter link.

Thanks Chandra for the Vedanta Society info. They r in my neck of the woods and I didn't know about them. I checked out their website just now and their address is http://www.sfvedanta.org. They have a bookshop. I think we can also order online. Now I wish I had unlimited finances for buying all our Ithihas, purans, philosophy, and other books instead of having to budget for books and CDs/DVDs every month. <Sigh!> Reality sucks!

Chandra, sorry for the delayed response but here is the reference in Valmiki Ramayan where Valmiki Maharishi asks L-K to sing in all places.

Canto 93 from Gita Press translation of Shrimad Valmiki Ramayan:

" Go and carefully sing the entire poem most joyfully. Sing in the holy huts of sages, in the dwellings of the Brahmanas, in the by-ways and highways, and also in the houses of the kings (assembled there for the yagna-my aside). At the entrance of the apartment of Sri Rama and also where the ritual is being performed, and specially before the priests this poem is to be sung."

Again..."If Shri Rama calls you to hear your song, then perform the singing of the poem in front of the sages seated, with the best of your ability."

In the next Canto, Rama hears their singing and then invites them to sing at the yagna itself.

Okay, here is one question I've wondered:

After Sita left, Rama threatened to destroy the earth if Bhoomi Devi didn't restore Sita. Instead, why didn't he threaten, or actually execute the Avadhis - the ones who had caused this in the first place? Release a weapon like the Narayanastra, which was his, and have it take effect after the yagna was complete. Destroying the earth would have been an overreaction, but destroying the culprits - anyone think that Brahma would have objected?

Oh, and Sita's speech, which she did not make, doesn't count as an answer.

Hey Chandra, the people of Avadh who spoke ill of Sita are not to be blamed, neither Ram who paid heed to them, nor the Rajmatas/Gurus/brothers who did not stop him or question him, but just Bhoomi Devi bcoz she was the one who supported Sita and came to her rescue as soon as she called out to her. 😉

Touche 👍🏼 Your sarcasm is lethal - almost like Rama's weapon in today's episode 😆

Incidentally, did it strike Rama where would his people and family have lived on, had he actually gone through w/ this threat? Or was he planning to include them all in the.... wipeout!?

He he Lethal Weapon 5?
Rama's threat was only to destroy Bhulok which is probably just the surfacial land, which means the other loks like Paataal, Naglok, Rasaatal etc. would still exist, right? May be he had plans to take his praja & family to Naglok or something bcoz that was how Sita would travel ie via Naglok to Vaikunth. 😆
And if he had included them in his wipeout, they well deserved it....
