You beat me to it - I was going to ask that very question - more particularly, how exactly is she worshipped? With offerings of taquilla, pina colada, bloody mary, et al?😆😆😆

Ananya

I'm guessing that nobody married her?😆😆😆

Suraasur? The name is quite strange.

I can recall only Surapadma (also called Suraa) but he is from the Skanda Purana.

No idea where Suraa or Suraasur come in Ramayan.

😃😃 Suraa is not worshipped with pinacolada, bloody mary et al 😆
She is the source of it 😉
The tale of samudra manthan is found in VR 1-45-36
She is accepted by Devtas but not the asuras 😕
also there is no pooja that takes place in her honor ....aww 😆

If you watch today's epi you'll know it It was a composite of stories taken from "Hatim-tai" Arabian nights, Vikram -Betal ...and sort of Yaksha prashna from MBH
and the rakshasas in Kuber sabha looked like they'd escaped from Spiderman or superman stories
aww but they were cute 😆😳

Thanks Ananya. It feels good to be back. Had some technical problems, hence, was not able to come to the Forum.

I haven't watched Ramayan for quite a long time. My cable operators have replaced NDTV Imagine with Sony Max. 😭

Recent episodes have been quite entertaining, I hope.

Welcome back. Just yesterday, we were depressed not only at where the Ramayan is, but also at the possibility that you seemed to have been off to Rasatal.😒

Recent episodes have been something else - entertaining isn't exactly the word I would use. Too bad you can't replace your cable operators, or can you? At any rate, the way the serial is currently going, ain't worth it - just read the daily updates. If something interesting does come up, I'm more likely than not to youtube it. Incidentally, I had never watched either Vikram Betaal, and have never been interested in Alif laila or any version of Arabian nights, so all this conversation is Greek Arabic to me.

Surapadma? He was the asura due to whom Kartikeya was born to kill, and who after being defeated was transformed into Kartikeya's vehicular peacock, right?

Ananya

I read 1-45-36. Suras seems to be another term for the Aditi-putra devas, rather than her name, no? Also, she's the presiding deity of hard liquer, such as sura, soma and presumably taquilla, vodka, etc: pina colada and bloody mary would be beneath her league😆😆😆

There is also lots of stories in other texts like Harivansha Puran, other Jain literature, Hanumat Charit, and so many other sources. Also, there is lots of stories about Hanuman killing various rakshas and performing all kinds of miracles in folk traditions and also in Sthal puran of many temples.

I am starting to agree with Saby (strictly my opinion). I think the stuff that Sagars are showing is forcing me to look at other sources of Indian literature. There is a wealth of information out there. One lifetime is not enough to know it all. I did not know such puran and writings existed until I started to research the Sagar sources. So, I am going to give Sagars the benefit of the doubt. I am enjoying the stories actually, strictly IMHO again.
The wealth and diversity of Indian literature and traditions is awesome and awe inspiring.
