Placing your beloved ones on laps was a tradition😳 .
Alternatively in Sanskrit if we write somebody sitting on lap , it also means sitting next to you very close and only your beloved ones can have such privilege;
unless you're travelling in a public transport😉😆
According to scriptures:
A brother/child/sister adorn the right lap
a Wife should adorn her husband's left lap only

Thanks.

Did they simply rest their heads on the lap, or downright sit on them?😆

Satrughan's timeline Part 2

According to Valmiki Lavana is Ravan is the brother of Lavana's mother's sister. Whew!

Satrughan sends the army on ahead to camp on the banks of the Ganga during the summer season. A month after the army has departed, Satrughan leaves for Madhura.

He spends 2 nights on the way before reaching Valmiki's ashram. He spends one night at Valmiki ashram. The same night the 2 sons of Rama are born, at midnight.

Satrughna hears Ramji's Gotra and name being spoken in the ashram. He is overjoyed and enters the hermitage of Sita and says, " O mother by the grace of God 2 sons are born to you." He then leaves to go on to Madhura.

Chandra, he spends 7 days on the road (including the 1 night spent at Valmiki ashram) before he reaches the banks of the Yamuna.

On reaching the banks of the Yamuna he stays the night with Rishi Cyavana and hears the tale of Madhu and the trident from him. The sage like Ramji advices him to attack Lavana the next morning when Lavana is without his trident.

Lavana goes out of the city to for his food, the next morning. Looks like he goes hunting every morning. Satrughan waits for him at the gate and confronts Lavana when he comes back at noon with the food.

Lavana sees Satrughan waiting for him and taunts him saying he (Lavana) will make Satrughan into his next meal. They have words and then Satrughan challenges him to a fight.

Lavan accepts the challenge. As Lavan does have access to the trident (with Satrughan blocking the entrance to the city gate) he fights with tress and rocks. Satrughan makes mincemeat of all this with his arrows. The asura is powerful and the arrows do not give him any trouble. During the battle Satrughan faints when a tree thrown by Lavan hits him on the head. Satrughan recovers and then kills Lavan with the Vishnu arrow given by Ramji. This fight between Satrughan and Lavan is witnessed by the devas and apsaras from the heavens.

After Lavana is dead, Indra and Agni give Satrughna a boon and ask Satrughna to ask the devas for anything. Satrughna asks that Madhupuri become the capitol of the Madhu kingdom. The devas grant this wish.

It takes 12 years for Satrughan to make Madhupuri more beautiful and build many great mansions. The city is shaped like a half-moon on the banks of the river Yamuna. The city prospers with business and crops growing abundantly.

Normally you can see idols of Sita-Rama, Shiva-Parvati where Sita n Parvati sitting on laps of Rama and Shiva respectively.

See the below given pic, its from Bhadrachalam temple in AP. Mata Sita is 'sitting' on Ramji's lap 😊

Thanks Mandodari ji for the stories. I had read about the war between Shathrugan and Lavanasur. Though it was brief, it was an awesome battle. I fervently hope that they show an really good battle scenes. I wish the same with Bharat's conquests too. I wish they show the splendour of the city of Madhupuri too after Shathrugan establishes it.

Satrughan's timeline Part 3:

At the end of 12 years Satrughan wishes to see Shri Ram again. He makes 7-8 stops on the way before reaching Valmiki's ashram. The procession is beautifully described with Satrughan riding on a special horse with 100 chariots accompanying him.

When he halts at Valmiki's ashram, he hears the song of Ramji. His 100 warroirs also hear the song. The warriors want to know details about the song. Satrughan refuses the warriors request saying that they should not question the great sage out of curiosity.

The next morning after taking leave of Valmiki he proceeds to Ayodhya. When he reaches Ayodhya he asks Ramji's permission to stay with him always. But Ramji tells him that he can stay in Ayodhya only for 7 days and then he has to leave for Madhupuri because a kingdom needs a king to function. Satrughan stays for 7 days and then leaves. He is accompanied by Lakshman and Bharat who go with him some distance to see him off.

Again the normal interaction between the brothers which the Sagars have started showing only from today.

Thanks Ananya for the explanations. There are countless mentions of elders making the younger ones sit on their laps in the ancient scriptures.

Thanks for the pictures as well. I have been trying to study the icons and idols and the significance of each symbol and mudhra. But its so vast and I don't have enough material for it (neither do I have the time).

Whenever I read about kings seating their newly wed wives on their laps, I never found it hard to believe. The wives were much younger (and children if I'm not mistaken) and the husband was much older. I could imagine it easily.

Not only Sita Mata was depicted as being seated on Lord Ram's lap but I've seen pictures and idols of Sri Varaha with Bhuma Devi seated on his lap too. The same goes with Lord Skanda and Devayani and Lord Skanda with Valli.

Aswamedha timeline:

1. Rama wishes to do the Rajasuya yagna. Bharat changes Ramji's mind by saying the Rajasuya will destroy all the kings and their families on this earth. Ramji agress and decides against doing the Rajasuya.

2. Lakshman also sides Bharat and advices Ramji to do the Aswamedha yagna instead. Ramji accepts. Lakshman also says that Ramji would be free from Brahmahatya sin by performing the Aswamedha and there is no need for the Rajasuya yagna.

3. Ramji makes preparation for the Ashwamedha. He sends a message to all the Rishi/muni, Vibishna and his Rakshas, Sugriv and his Vanars, dancers, musicians, and other entertainers to come to Ayodha for the yagna.

4. The yagna is to be performed on the banks of the Gomati in the Naimisa forest. He also gives an invitation to the people of Ayodhya, carpenters, laborers, the matas, his brothers including Satrughna and their wives, the golden statue of Sita, and practically everyone else.

5. A black horse is let loose and it is well decorated. All the kings who come to the yagna are well looked after with grand clothes, and kingly cuisine. Ramji does so much charity to the poor it says and I quote," he who desired wealth received it and one wishing gems also received them...At all corners the Vanars and Rakshasas (Vibishna brings people with him to help Ramji) stood; they distributed liberally among them who desired clothes, wealth, and food."
This yagna, charity, and celebrations goes on for more than a year without any obstruction.
