Mandodari is a Pancha Maha Kanya, a pativrata, because she served her husband with true devotion and love, even when he continuously brought various women to Lanka and made them his queens. She was an intelligent woman who advised him in various issues of the state, and in the issue of Sita, she continously told Ravan the danger of keeping Sita in Lanka, although Ravan never heeded her words. She never let jealousy or pride get in her way. Once, when Mandodari was talking with her father, Maya, about her fears of Sita staying in Lanka, Maya told her that maybe her fears were needless and she was only afraid that Sitaji would replace Mandodari's place in Ravan's heart. Mandodari strongly disagreed with this, and said in reply said that should Sita become Ravan's queen, she would welcome her as a sister, and treat her with all the love she would of a daughter. This proves that Mandodari was a very selfless lady who wanted the happiness of her husband before her own. Even to all his other queens, she was always kind and never acted cruelly with them, even when she had the chance to (since she was the Empress of Lanka). She never spoke harshly to Ravan, and when she advised him, she always did so in the kindest of ways. This is why Mandodari is a Pancha Maha Kanya.
The Tara in the Pancha Maha Kanya is Brihaspati's wife, not Vali's, but I don't know the reason why she is. I too would like to know why.
I agree. Indrajit would have made a far better King than Ravan, because aside from his pride, he had no other faults. He only had one wife: Sulochana, and he was known as a great husband, father, and son. It's a pity that destiny had another plan for him.😭
thanks Lalitha Di for telling about Mandodri.......very sad for Meghnath..........all things depend on fate....

I tend to agree with the above speculations, even though they are just that. Reason being, pativrata stris were supposed to be an ultimate power & asset, and one didn't just attain them for no reason. I've seen different versions of the list where Mandodari was there in some but not in others, but Sulochna has been there in all the ones that I've seen. Based on that, I can only conclude that Indrajit was almost faultless and therefore earned this loyalty.
As for why fate didn't allow him to succeed Ravan as ruler of Lanka, there could be 2 reasons. One could be that he was an incarnation of previous shaktis - just as Ravan and Kumbhakarna were avatars of Jaya and Vijaya and Athikaya was an avatar of either Madhu/Kaitabh, Indrajit too could have been such an avatar, and so required a death to liberate him of a shaap. The other alternative is that the Devas feared the Rakshashas and Asuras and knew that once they had a ruler who followed dharm, they'd not hold a candle to them. That's why Prahlad's grandson Bali had to be tricked out of his kingdom by Vishnu in his Vamana avatar, and possibly here, the devas knew that if Indrajit was allowed to succeed Ravan as king, he'd not only retain the power that Ravan had over trilog, but also, because of following dharm, be unconquerable, since Vishnu (Rama/Lakshman) in such a case would have needed a good reason to go to war with him. Let's say Ravan handed over power to Indrajit, then Indrajit, given his loyalty to Sulochna, would have had no use for Sita, and would more likely than not have returned her to Rama (maybe without the humility that Rama demanded). In such a case, Sita's pativrata powers would no longer have worked against him as they did against Ravan.
Luckily for the devas, they didn't have to ask Vishnu to do to Indrajit what he did to Bali.
