Gandhi Jayanti is a national holiday celebrated in India to mark the occasion of the birthday of Mahatma Gandhi, the "Father of the Nation". It is celebrated on October 2, every year. It is one of the three official declared National Holidays of India and is observed in all its states and union territories. The United Nations General Assembly announced on 15 June 2007 that it adopted a resolution which declared that October 2 will be celebrated as the International Day of Non-Violence

EID MUBARAQ
Muslims across the world, celebrate Eid today. To honour the day, about 54 000 under- privileged people in the Western Cape will benefit from the spirit of Eid Ul Fitr. They will be given food as part of an old Muslim tradition to care for and share with the poor.
The occasion started 24 years ago as a good gesture to the poor who do not have food on the day of Eid and has now become a Muslim tradition at the end of the fasting month of Ramadaan. Muslims in the Western Cape say they have also managed to raise R88 000 which will be given to the poor.
