DIVINE INSIGHT

(From world-revered Sant Shri Asharamji Bapu's divine discourses)

shared by : Krishni

Lord Sri Ramachandraji was resting in the forest while his brother Lakshman stood guard with his bow and arrow. Seeing Lord Rama in this pitiable state, King Nishad started cursing Kaikeyi, "O Kaikeyi! It did not even occur to her! These were the golden days for our Lord, whereas now He is sleeping on the ground! The King of kings, Maharaj Dasharathnandan (the son of King Dasharath), would have been seated on the throne in the royal court. The man of perfect youth, perfect beauty, perfect knowledge, perfect love, perfect light and the perfect life, Sri Rama has been banished to this forest. How evil minded has Kaikeyi become!"

Nishad cursed Kaikeyi in this manner in front of Lakshman. He thought that Lakshman would sympathize with him and he too would curse Kaikeyi. But Lakshman was elevated far above the instinct-driven animal life. He was also slightly above human life fraught with joys and sorrows. He said to Nishadraj: "Why do you curse mother Kaikeyi?

No man is the cause of another's joy or sorrow."

Those who attribute the cause of their sorrows to others are ignorant. They have lost their good sense. Some people spent crores of rupees on carrying out malicious propaganda against Bapu. If I had said, 'These people have distressed me through their malicious propaganda. Oh! They made me sad' then I would have really become a 'Sorrow Maker'. Those slanderers continued with their malicious acts, whereas I continued to remain cheerful. As a result, the number of people attending my satsangs actually increased. Maybe that was my fate.

King Nishad says, "What happened is not good". Lakshman replies, "No man is the cause of another's happiness or sorrow. Everyone has to bear his own destiny. Everyone has their own way of thinking. It is our thoughts that make us happy or sad. Do not curse mother Kaikeyi."

Nishad then asks, "Is Sri Ramchandra suffering because of His destiny or because of the fruit of any sinful act? What do you think?"

Lakshman replies, "Sri Rama is not sorrowful. You are sorrowful. Sri Rama knows that this is destined; this is a leela (divine play). Events of joy and sorrow, profit and loss, life and death - these are nothing but mere drama, whereas I am the Eternal Essence, pervading every atom of the endless universes. It is only to enact My leela that I incarnate in human form, as Sri Rama. Sri Rama is not bearing any fruits of destiny. Sri Rama transcends the gunas (qualities), space, time and destiny. The mahapurushas (great men) do not bear the fruits of their destiny, their destiny is nullified. Moreover, destiny relates only to the body. It does not touch the Self. Fame and defamation are of the body, disease and health also affect only the body, how can these affect Me? The Self within is the knower and master of all circumstances. This is what all jnanis (Knowers of the Truth) know. Sri Rama is the crest jewel of all jnanis. Where does he experience sorrow? On the contrary, King Nishad, you seem to be creating sorrow for yourself."

Now pay attention. What is your opinion in interpreting this anecdote? Kaikeyi was deceitful, selfish, and elicited a promise from King Dasharatha in her son's favour. What she did was improper. Taking it in this sense, if you desist from doing anything inappropriate protecting your inner being from mistakes or deceit, then it is good. Another way of looking at it could be to consider that Kaikeyi had affection for Sri Rama. Through her acts she portrayed renunciation and sacrifice (of her prestige) and thus contributed in the divine mission of Sri Rama. Despite the contempt she received, despite knowing that the people will malign her, Kaikeyi acted in this manner. Remembering Kaikeyi's renunciation and affection, this way you can arouse goodwill towards her in your heart. Do not make your heart impure by cursing Kaikeyi. Also, do not make your heart deceitful thinking, 'Kaikeyi caused Sri Rama to be exiled. She did the right thing and we should also act in the same way'. Adopt the correct perspective from this story. Adopt the one that helps you fill your heart with love for the Beloved, His wisdom, His equanimity and His supreme sweetness. Such a perspective will be good and right for you.

If someone among your relatives, a sister-in-law, mother-in- law or daughter-in-law does something improper and you desist from doing that wrong in your life, you have taken the right approach. However, if you spoil your heart by blaming her thus, "She has done wrong, this niguri (a person who has not taken Diksha from a Satguru) is like this'.", then you are destroying your inner peace and your behavior will become like an animal's. If your sister-in-law or mother-in-law has a virtue of forbearance, practice it in your life and be even minded.

If you find any virtue in any person, practice it in your life and if there is any vice in any body, then protect yourself from that. By doing so, you can develop your mind. Neither should you find vices in others, nor assuming a person to be at fault, accuse him. Do not become a slave of any bad habit of others.

If you feel hatred for someone on seeing his vices, your mind will get polluted. However, on noticing the vices, if you resolve to protect yourself from them and at the same time wish him to get rid of that vice, then you are developing your mind. This world is replete with virtues and vices, good and evil. You should be glad and get inspired by the virtues of others and save yourself from the vices you notice in others. Delve into it. Realize that this warp and woof of good and evil is the driving force behind this world; In reality, God is the Essence, the Truth, Consciousness and Bliss absolute. I am seeking peace in Him.

From where the mind wanders, bring it back into the tranquility of your divine Nature, which is free from deceit, fraud and vices, and beyond the attraction for good or bad. Arouse your discrimination by asking yourself, 'Who am I?' and become calm.

Develop your intellect through self-effort in such a way that God as a whole appears to you as your own. A mother may have ten sons, but to each she completely appears as his own.

SITA KUND VINDAYANCHAL UP
Shared by Arti
As the name suggests, Sita Kund has a close connection with Sita Devi, Ram and Lakshman. It is a belief that, while returning from Lanka, Sita Devi felt very thirsty and there were no water body in the near vicinity. Then Lakshman, younger brother of his husband Ram, pricked an arrow on the earth from where there originated a fountain of water. This tank with the presence of a perennial spring is now called as the Sitakund.

Story about lakhmaneshwar linga maharashtra

Shared by Arti

In search for sitaji ram lakshman met Gautam Rishi near maharashtra present day mumbai, he suggested that Ram should appease Lord Shiva and for that he would need a 'Shivlinga'. Lakshman was sent to Kashi the same evening to bring 'Shivlinga'. After a few days the Rishi observed that the wait for Lakshman's return was painful for Ram and he was getting restless.

The Rishi suggested that Ram should make a 'Shivlinga' from the sand available at the shore of the sea and get on with his job. Ram did just that. Sand is called 'balu' or 'walu'. Since the Linga was made of walu, it came to be known as 'Walukeshwar' and during course of time both the Linga and the area nearby became 'Walkeshwar'. The Linga which Lakshman brought from Kashi was installed on an adjacent slot and it was known as 'Lakhmaneshwar'. When foreigners invaded the place later, the original sand Linga was destroyed. The present Linga, which is now there is the one which Lakshman brought from Kashi, so the legend goes.

In order to install the Linga and for other rituals, they needed water, Lakshman hit the earth deep with his bow and arrow and water came out from Patal (deep inside earth) and formed a lake. The lake came to be known as Patalganga and still later Banganga as it was Lashman's 'Ban'( bow and arrow) which had formed it. Even to this day there is a stream which flows throughout the year, nothing less than a miracle. So the legend goes

Then, making an offering of flowers and performing customary rites to ensure the peacefulness of the home, Lakshmana showed the hermitage he built to Rama." (Valmiki Ramayana, Aranya Kand, 15.25)

In this passage from the Ramayana, we see that Lakshmana has just built a hut for Rama, Sita, and himself to live in. The trio was travelling through the forests of India at the time and they needed some type of housing to stay in. Lakshmana worked very hard to make Rama, who was God Himself, happy. In this way, he showed us what the real purpose of a home is.

Ram - LakshmanShared by Neilu
"Son, Any decision you take must be right
Why would father object knowing your character's might?"
"I've decided to live in the forest for fourteen years
This very thought brings in him endless tears"

Hearing this Kausalya started to sob
Pleading Rama not to take up the job
Rama became sad seeing His mother's sorrow
Disturbed by this, Lakshman took up his arrow

He strung his bow and twitched it loud
In a moment he became a thunder cloud
In a fit of anger, like a lion he roared
To lofty heights his anger had soared

"Brother, being a Hero why do you worry
The cause of this trouble I've decided to bury
Just take up your bow and come with me
If you wish not to fight, leave it to me"

"I'll tear Kaikeyi into a thousand pieces
And also her husband who silently eases
Not daring to speak against injustice
Pampering that seductive wife of his

Rama smiled like a mother on seeing her child
Amused on seeing his brother, turn so wild
Asked Lakshman to give up arms and take some rest
And started to speak, caressing Lakshman's cheeks and chest

"Brother, if you get angry and start to shoot
Even the hugest mountains you could uproot
But there is always a time to show your might
Not against our father you must propose to fight"

"Not because he's our beloved father, I say this
He is already in pain, you must not add to his.
And those words of disrespect against our father
Never again speak them that's my order"

Strangled by Rama's words of love and truth
Lakshman contained in his heart, his wrath and ruth
And promised Rama that he will never speak like that
Hoping to get from Rama an appreciative pat.

Unparalleled love!

Lakshmana was, as you know, characterized as the very embodiment of the principle of 'kainkarya'; his 'Lakshmi' was 'Kainkaryalakshmi'…
Service to Rama was the only thing that Lakshmana knew in his life. Nothing else. His service starts right from day one. When Rama and Sita sleep on the grass, Lakshmana stands guard. ' Rama and Sita went to sleep on plain ground, covered with grass, wielding the banded bow until it was dawn, did not bat a wink 'kaaththu nindraan' stood guard over them.
When Guhan the boatman offered to take over the duty from him, Lakshmana refuses gently, without hurting him. "Being protected by you, who keep your duty alone in view, O sinless Guha, we all are not (the least) afraid (of any) in this land. But so long as Rama (son of Dasaratha) remains lying down on the ground with Sita, how can sleep be had by me, much less nourishment intended to keep the body and soul together or amenities of life?" (Valmiki Ramayana, Ayodhya Kanda, Canto LI, Sloka 8, 9)
'It is not that I don't trust you. You would doubtless keep vigil very sincerely. But how can I sleep when my brother and Sita are lying on the dust of the ground! It is my duty and let me perform it myself.'
Rt. Hon'ble Srinivasa Sastriyar beautifully sums up the essence of his character in these words. "Lakshmana was, as you know, characterized as the very embodiment of the principle of 'kainkarya'; his 'Lakshmi' was 'Kainkaryalakshmi,' that is to say, 'kainkarya' or service was the badge or distinguishing 'lakshana' or mark of Lakshmana. What are the chief points in his character? He has a dog's qualities, a slave's virtues. As a watchful guard, if there is a stranger or even a friend in apparent enmity, he barks; he suspects, but as a faithful slave will suspect. This 'kainkarya' in the extreme sense, utter devotion and nothing else."
He would stand guard when Rama and Sita sleep; he would make a float all by himself and ferry them across the River , once they are in Chitrakuta. He cut long and pliant bamboos.and constructed a float, tying them up with creepers.and while Rama and Sita were safely seated on it, Lakshmana swam the river, pushing the float across.
He would swim the river, pushing the float with Rama and Sita seated on it, across Yamuna. He would construct their hermitage. He would level the floor, make the roof out of fronds, and beautify it with the colourful feathers of peacocks and other birds. Rama was so moved when he finished the work that he embraced Lakshmana and said, ' when did you learn all this, my child! "I have brought you to the jungle and am causing you trouble of extreme kind. So saying Rama shed tears. Unparalleled love!

Love has a different perception

Love has strange ways of interpreting events. While Dasaratha's known for his unswerving love for Truth, Lakshmana has his own way of disproving it…
Lakshmana appears to be a little too rash on two or three scenes in the second book. One of them is when Sumantra asks for the message of Rama, Sita and Lakshmana to the king and the mothers. 'Convey my respects to the King and the queens and take care of parrot,' is the innocent message of Sita. 'May my mother ever follower her Dharma and honour my father; may she be good to Kaikeyi; may she never forget her duty to the king!' is the essence of Rama's message. When he says 'duty to the king' Rama, by the word 'king' refers to Bharata. Listen to the message of Lakshmana that Sumantra has taken back to the ears of Dasaratha.
"For what offence has this prince (Sri Rama) been exiled? Having quickly promised to carry out he command of Kaikeyi, the king executed it, not minding whether it was worth doing or not, as a result of which we have been subjected to excessive suffering. If the event of Sri Rama having been exiled was brought about through greed (for power) or because a boon had been granted to that effect by the emperor), a wholly undesirable act has been done………I at any rate perceive no parenthood in the emperor, Sri Rama (a scion on Raghu) is my (elder) brother, master, kinsman and father too." (Valmiki Ramayana, Ayodhya Kanda, Canto LVIII, Sloka 26-28 and 30)
He (Dasaratha) can neither be called the emperor nor my father. I do not see any reason why I should send soothing words to that person! He failed to keep his word. Lakshmana calls Dasaratha 'meyyan' sarcastically in Kamban. He has his own way of interpreting it. 'You say that Dasaratha sent Rama on exile because he could not break his word given to Kaikeyi. Do you realise that he did not keep his word given to my brother to make him the king? How do you call him a truthful person any more? May be he kept up his promise made to Kaikeyi; but he broke the one made to my brother. I cannot call him 'sathya vratha' any longer.'
'urai seydhu em kOmagarkku uRudhi aakiya tharai kezhu thiruvinaith thavirththu,' In violation of the words given to my king (Rama) 'matru oru virai seri kuzhali maatu aLiththa meyyani,' he, 'that truthful person' handed over the crown to that lady. 'araisan endru innam ondru arayar paaladhO' Does he deserve to be called a king any more?
Love has strange ways of interpreting events. While the entire world celebrates Dasaratha's unswerving love for Truth, Lakshmana has another, very logical, convincing and irrefutable way of disproving it! 'I agree that he kept his word given to that woman. But what happens to the word given to my brother? Why did he fail there?' However, Rama did not approve of this argument. That is a different story altogether.
Lakshmana's message to Dasaratha is made up of the choicest of harshest of words. But if one would observe, it is born out of sheer love for Rama. Lakshmana's anger is selfless. It is born, takes shape and finds expression only due to one reason, and the reason needs no restatement.

A word for Lakshmana

many ppl doesnt agree with the words sitaji spoke to lakshmana at panchvati There is no doubt that the accusations that she levelled against him that day burns the heart and made even Lakshmana to react strongly
Words tht were uttered in anger no doubt. But then, who is not guilty of that sin? Who can be exempted..., 'The words uttered in anger give a clue to the mind, for they slip off when the mind is off-guard.' That may be true in stray instances. But it cannot be the general rule and the guiding factor, always. Not certainly in the case of Sita and Lakshmana.
On the contrary, the better thing is to trust the words of the mind when it is calm relatively; when quietude of comparative terms rule over it.
wen hanumana came for the search for sitaji and asked her for the mssg look wht message she had for Lakshmana...sita said convey my message to lakshmana "'Lakshmana, it is your duty to come to my rescue.' There are no ifs and buts and the all-knowing, yet teasing 'even ifs' are totally absent here. '.' Realise that 'it is my duty to rush to her rescue, for I was the one who was protecting her under the orders of Rama.'You were the one who were standing guard at the behest of Rama, before I sent you in search of him. 'idai kOththu vem sirai vIdu.' You, my guard, my protector owe a duty to me to come to my rescue and take me out of this prison.
"Rama owes a duty to himself and therefore he has to reach here.Lakshmana has the order of Rama to guard me and therefore he owes me a duty to come to my rescue. No. Not simply because of that. There is something else that demands him to do this. He is my son. He owes a duty to his mother. Listen to her."
Also let him know, Hanuman. I won't live a minute more than a month from now. Make this known to Lakshmana in particular..' My penance would come to an end in a period of a month.' if he does not turn up here within that time, ',' let him not come here at all. Let him go to the banks of the Ganges. 'Let him perform my last rites there in the banks of Ganges, with his palms of the colour of lotus petals.
If they do not come within the specified time limit, let them go back to Ayodhya and let Lakshmana perform my last rites in the banks of Ganges, for I would not be living any more.
That speaks volumes of the love that she has for Lakshmana as their own child. Who else can perform the last rites, but the son? there was no request in her words ...only the authority tht she has over lakshmana the undying and pure love tht she has for lakshmana tht she wants him to perform her last rites...👏
