What does 'RAVAN' mean ?

Hi Guys...After reading the post on this forum ..I understand that there are a lot of smart people who log on. Can some one tell me how did Dashana's name change to RAVAN?

What does it actually mean & who gave him that name ? ❓

'Ravan' = 'raav' + 'na'... it can mean, one who accepts every challenge or it can mean one who cried and then prayed... Shankar bhagvan himself gave this name to Raavan... the story is something like this:
Once, Raavan went to Kailas, the abode of shiv, and there he though of lifting mount kailas... he tried hard and finally lifted it... but he got egoistic and then bhagvaan shankar thought of playing a game... he put the thumb of his right leg onto dashanan's forehead and pressed it a little... raavan couldnt take the force.. and his hands got stuck under the mountain... then he prayed and sang the famous Shivtandavstotra... bhagvan shankar was very pleased, lifted kailas and gave dashanan the name Raavan... as he accepted the challenge to lift Mount Kailas and prayed to him after crying/failing...
