"But when you turned around
I knew I 'd finally found
Someone who's heart beats the same
I don't remember too much

that I signed on the dotted line
and that name next to yours is mine

Three Months Later
"Landed safely. Going directly to the conference" Asad read the text and sighed loudly.
"Okay" He answered back. His heart dropped a little. Zoya went to Mumbai as she had to attend a conference. They had postponed their Nikaah as Nazma would not make for it because of the sudden emergence that had appeared in Imraan's business. Both Zoya and Asad did not want to conduct the marriage without her presence. It also gave them the time to work on their relationship. With mental attachment, physical attachment was also growing without any awkwardness.
Asad was restless. She had gone only for three days. Don't be silly. He chided himself and raked his hands through his hairs. But every fiber of his body was screaming the need of her presence, but he brushed off it like always. He engrossed himself in his works.
-------------------------------------------------------------------
Two Days Later, Bhoopal
Asad was in the backyard sitting on the bench. It was almost midnight and he was here with his midnight coffee and guitar. A sudden breeze made him grin as he could feel her presence beside him.
"So, guitar! Hmm... after a long time."
"Yeah" He kept strumming.
"I enjoy this melody but it is kind of sad" She declared. Asad nodded. Still he did not stop.
"So, you are missing Zoya?" She suddenly blurted and Asad stopped at that moment, looking back at her. He arched his eyebrow. "What are you trying to say?"
"The same thing you went on denying these days continuously knowing it can't be avoided anymore" her exasperated tone made him to go silent once again. "Why are you so like this, Asad?"
"I don't know Ammi. You know how much I like her. Well, you know everything about us and the situations we have been through. I am trying every possible way to make this work. What else I can do?" He looked at his mother, Dilshad once again as if he was a lost child.
"You can accept now that you love her. Go and say it to her" Dilshad was really pissed off.
"What? No" He almost yelled as he ran his fingers through his hair.
"Tell her beta. She will be happy. She needs the assurance, don't you think? Asad, being in love is the happiest feeling in this whole wide world! Accept it. I just can't describe how beautiful it is." She clapped her hands together like a love-struck.
"No, it isn't." He contradicted her almost instantly. "Being in love and getting your feelings reciprocated is the best feeling in the world. Just being in love is not enough. It is never enough." Asad looked at the black sky, with a heavy heart. Dilshad kept her hand along his shoulder. "So, this is what you are afraid of?" Asad did not say anything.
"I have tried each moment to forget it, but in my heart I always feel I almost bound her in this relationship. Yes, she trusts me. Yes, she has no one and I took advantage of her, I forced her in this and that is the truth. She is considering it only for my wish. So, I am not going to force her to accept my love."
"Really Asad! Force! She wanted to be with you. That's why she agreed with it. Did you not notice how eagerly she waits for you? How much she learned to depend to on you? How easily she molded her life just to fit into your life?" She was hell angry and Asad looked at Dilshad flabbergasted.
"But all the initiatives were coming from my side. I guess she just went with the flow." Asad stuttered.
"Moreover, you did not even notice how easily she brought you out of your guilt?" Asad looked at her horrified.
"Yes Asad, about Shireen. She taught you finally how letting it go, don't you realize it? You were incomplete when she was not with you Asad. She completes you. May be she is working out about her feelings. It was normal for her, though. Look at her life, how much she had to endure to come to this position in her life. When will you realize the truth, Asad? When?" Dilshad was really impatient this time.
"That was what I am telling you, Ammi." He continued but was cut off by Dilshad.
"Accept it, Asad. Please." Dilshad pleaded.
"Yes, I love her, Ammi." He said it, finally.
"And if she loves me then it should do naturally. I am never going to make her think about it." Asad certified firmly this time.
"Then why you are marrying her? Let her go." Dilshad tried in another manner.
"No. That's also not possible. Though it was fixed for Ayaan- Humaira, but now I will never let her go because of me, my love. She needs time and I am here with all my time for her."
"You are contradicting your own self, Asad. What if she never realized it?" Dilshad tried her best.
"I will wait if it took her to realize, forever. But I will marry her! Only her" Asad declared with a quite heavy tone.
At the nick of the time Asad's eyes got open as he heard the morning Azaan. It was the first time Dilshad came to his dream.
----------------------------------------------------------------
Mumbai
It was lunch time. Zoya was fondling with her food when her cell phone pinged. A rueful smile appeared to know very well who it could be. She opened it.
"Lunch done? I went to your office for lunch as I forgot that you are not here" She left stunned after reading it. He would not admit, but he was missing her, badly. Zoya was in the same state. She felt like crying. She was missing him madly.
"I am having lunch. You also please eat something" She hit back the send button. Though they loved visiting with each other now-a-days but this text messages always gave her cozy feelings. Because of this she found a different shade of Asad. It was the most romantic thing in their relationship in her point. They could talk each and every matter through it which they could not convey verbally.
-------------------------------------------------------
"Do you mind if I come to your office and we have lunch together?" His text flashed and she gave a shy smile.
"No. I think it is okay. But in one condition?" Her response made him frown.
"And what is that Miss Farooqui?" She could sense his inaudible irritation and chuckled.
"You have to take lunch with me every day, Mr. Khan" She challenged.
He looked at it with amused eyes and took his sweet time to reply her back. Zoya bit her nail as she thought he would not agree with this silly condition. But, she was very wrong. He had come that day and made sure they could have lunch together even on the weekends.
Zoya came out of her memory as her taxi halt in front of her Hotel. The promise was made three weeks ago. From that day she had waited for him. He never knew! He did not even observe, but she took extra care of her looks during lunch time as she wanted to be beautiful in his eyes.
---------------------------------------------------------------------
Same Evening
She sat by the side of the window with her coffee mug. She had seen how he was trying to mold himself with Shireen as per her saying. She was not sure that he would really try! But he did let go and embraced the reality of his life.
It was Ayaan and Humaira's engagement and all were running for the last minute preparation. Zoya was with Humaira and Asad was with Ayaan. Asad had pondered on what Zoya had said, but he did not take a step towards it. Actually, he could not. Why? Simple, it was not easy for him. Though he was trying, but the grudge he had held for years could not be away with the mere thought of let it go. But, yes, he was trying, engrossing more, with his siblings and Shireen. He stayed their house for four nights only to make Ayaan's D-day perfect.
Shireen and everyone were surprised seeing him so relaxed around their house as if for first time he had realized he was the elder son of this family. Not only that he was trying to make conversation with her like what would she like, if she would have any other taste of color for decorating the hall or if he could help her in any works and all. No one questioned about it as per Shireen's instruction because she was happy with it only. Without Asad's realization, she had gone behind his every move just to savor those moments. She had tried many times to befriend with him, but he rejected every time, saying it would take time and she waited. But after these years her hopes had faded and she was happy that at least he respected her and never denied her anything she wanted. But his changing behavior again was making her hope high; sometimes she had seen him with a hint of a smile on his lips when his cell phone pinged every time. He was happy and it made her content. Then on the night after Ayaan's engagement, when she had taken Asad and Zoya to her room and gave all the jewelries to Zoya, which was Dilshad's, that time Asad had to let it go. He kneeled in front of her and asked pardon for his callousness for all these years. Shireen who was shocked, but elated at the same time kneeled down too and hugged him kissing his forehead. She had waited for this day for all of her life. When Asad had addressed her as "Choti Ammi" she had cried and cried. Then later they all had shared their family time. Zoya had spent that night in Khan Mansion consoling the sobbing Shireen again and again.
------------------------------------
Zoya looked at the hazy outside as she gave a thought about her relationship with Asad. She actually never thought about the relationship as she wanted to go with the flow. But now when she was alone, she started to realize how far she had come to this relationship. If it was not for Asad then would she be agreed anything like this nikaah? Could she imagine her life partner anyone, rather than him? No! She screamed loudly as even that thought made her feel disgusted. I havea waited for him since he left India.
It was past midnight and Zoya was crying bitterly by the time she reminisced their journey together. The barren feeling came back to her pit of stomach and she felt she would be senseless in any time. She had to see him and she had to be in his embrace. But alas! She could not do that.
-------------------------------------
Next Afternoon, Bhoopal
Asad had to go to the fashion house to check on Zoya's bridal outfit which was designed by his and Zoya's choice. The wedding was after two weeks. Though all arrangements were going in time, but still they had lot arrangements to make. Everything should be perfect.
He had thought about his dreams many times, but still he was firm about his decision. He was happy that Zoya was coming back the next day and he would be distracted by her to think about it anymore. Thinking about Zoya brought a smile to him. Last two days without her made him crazy inside. After the dream the urge became strong and he silently chanted I love you, Miss Farooqui how many times he could not tell. The count was unnecessary obviously.
It was drizzling when he got out of the house in his black dress shirt and faded denims. The message tone reached his ear when he was going to start the engine.
"Can you please come to the lake, please?" This text made his brows wiggled together. Zoya is in Bhoopal? She is supposed to come tomorrow. He called her instant, but she cut the call. The next moment he got another text from her.
"Please don't call. Just come to the lake where we use to sit." He called her again. Damn! She switched off her cell phone.
He immediately called Ayaan that if he knew anything about Zoya's pre- arrival but Ayaan also denied of knowing anything about it. At that instant Asad thought only one thing. Was she okay?
He started the engine with full force and reached to the lake in fifteen minutes. The lake was totally empty, although it was only late afternoon. He started to walk at the farthest corner where they passed many afternoons in the last three months. There was a gazebo under which benches were set for seating arrangement to enjoy the views of the lakeside. Today the beauty or weather nothing was attracting his mind as he was anxious about Zoya's wellbeing. He almost ran towards the gazebo.
When he reached, there was no one. He was panicked at the very moment. He searched for her frantically here and there and constantly tried her number which was switched off still. The feeling of emptiness rushed in the next moment, thinking about the worst things happened to Zoya. He thought that he would die, without knowing he choked her name "Zoyaaa..."
----------------------------------------------------------
"I am here Mr. Khan. Allah Miyaan! What is wrong with you? Why are you shouting" Zoya came out from the rose bushes. Asad became alive hearing her voice. He just turned around and next moment he was dead again. She was busy to tuck a rose which had fallen on the earth beside the bush, so she did not realize Asad did not reply back. After tucking the rose inside her messy bun she looked at him. He was gaping at her mesmerized, rooted in the same spot.
----------------------------------------
Zoya did not waste any time when she realized she needed him more than anything in her life. How and when he became the center of her life she could not tell, but surely she could at least tell him that she loves him. She wanted to say it to him as early as possible. Without delay, she packed her bag after informing the conference people about her departure. There was no flight, so, she took a bus to go to her Mr. Khan.
-------------------------------------------
This was the first time he was seeing her like this, she was wearing a red saree with a black full sleeved blouse. Because of the drizzle she was a little too wet but that enhanced her look, brought kind of rawness to her features. Zoya reached near him, under the gazebo. He kept looking at her, clearly showing his emotions to her. She softly placed her hand on his slightly stubble cheek as she understood his fear. He shivered a little and uttered ethereal' and that made her come to the reality as she tried to move away as she understood her sudden action. But Asad held her hand firmly as he leaned a little towards it. The hue of beet-root red color spread slowly over her cheeks as she lowered her eyes. She forgot why she had called him here.
------------------------------------------------
"Mr. Khan..I...I" She was utterly confused at his behavior. Asad kept mum. The fear of losing her had shaken him. After some time basking in the silence and lot of overwhelming untold emotions Asad got back his composure. He let go of her hand and made a space between them.
"You are here a day early, Miss Farooqui" Asad said in a calm tone while twisting the ring with his fingers. Zoya gulped and stepped closer to him instinctively.
"Mr. Khan...I need to talk to you."
What is it?" He whispered as he alerted once more.
"Mr. Khan, I missed you, madly. Did you miss me?" Zoya blurted from nowhere. Asad let out the breath he did not even know he was holding.
"You called me here just for this Miss Farooqui?" Asad growled without realizing what she was trying to convey.
"Yes, Mr. Khan. I wanted to be sure if you missed me or not? I missed every moment of us that we passed together when I was away from you. I missed us, our chats, every little thing that you do to show me how much you are trying for us. I missed your every touch overall I missed just being near to you. Did you miss me?" Zoya asked him again with pleading eyes as if her life was dependent on it. Asad was speechless this time again.
"Did you miss me, Mr. Khan? Did you miss us, for a second in these two days?" Zoya demanded as she shook him a little. Abruptly, the sunlight of late afternoon emerged its last glow and the drizzle blocked the rays making the change of the color in the sky. Asad's gaze passed from her to the sky, feeling the yellow glow around. Zoya also followed his gaze as she discovered the rainbow in the sky. Involuntarily a smile crept to her lips as she looked back at Asad. She found him extremely close to her as he cupped her face with his hand. Every oozing expression screamed his love for her.
"Yes, I missed you like crazy" he said with such thick emotions that made a tear droplet fall from her eyes. Asad looked at her unabashedly as the yellow glow made her look more serene.
"Do you know why?" She softly whispered to him. Asad nodded affirmatively.
"I love you, Asad." There, she said it so easily placing her hand over his heart.
He did not realize when Zoya moved her head a little and gently pressed her lips over his. One moment he was blank, but the next moment he pulled her closer and then he was kissing her and hugging her and telling her in broken whispers how much he loved her. He was rambling, but he didn't care. Some of what he said made sense, most didn't. It didn't matter to her either.
----------------------------------------------------
Two Weeks Later
The moment after she uttered "Qubool hai" everyone hooted loudly. Nazma was squealing the most. When Qazi Sahab handed her the nikaah nama, she kept looking at the Dotted Line' on where was to be signed. Her gaze followed from there to the most captivated pair of eyes through the sheer veil. Asad silently asked about the matter, but she nodded slightly and signed on the Dotted line.' The same thing happened with Asad as he hung the pen in the air for a few moments looking intently on the "Dotted Line.' Then with a half-smile he signed on. Both remembered what they thought about their lives three months before.
After completing all the formality, the moment she sat beside him, he held her hand tight, ready to start a new life. One thing they did not observe after signing on the dotted line that both joined the dots in a straight line under their signature, like their life was also going to be. Well that actually was not needed. They knew they would be just fine, together! Forever!
------------------------------------------------
N.B - (Khan Mansion- Ayaan's Home, Khan Villa - Asad's Home)- Just if you did not notice it. I personally love Dilshad, so added a little bit of her. I adored Asad- Dilshad's relationship (in the show) always! 😊
So, this is the last chapter. Well, no epilogue is coming after it. So, basically it ends here. I am really sorry for being this late. I have no options though as real life constantly taking me away from my passion. I guess it happens in everyone's life when priority changes. I passed good amount of my time here once upon a time and now I barely can come here. Thank you so much dear readers who spend their valuable time to read my stories. I am truly thankful to you people. Good bye.
Lots of love 🤗
