Hello everyone,
Firstly, I'm so sorry for the very long delay. I've been caught up in work and personal issues & I've dreaded the past few months. I was suppose to post the update yesterday but due to some reasons; I was not able to finish typing it up. I'm still busier than I expected to be and I will hopefully have a few free days in the following weeks so I can update. Please bear with me; the delay is not intentional. Thank you.

Love,

Hey everyone.
I know you're all mad at me for not updating for 7 months & it's entirely my fault. I know. I won't give any excuses; instead, I would like to sincerely thank each and everyone of you who stuck around in anticipation waiting for this FF to be updated. And, as promised, here's an update of 3000+ words. A very long update as I promised months ago.
I would also like to take this opportunity to tell everyone that constantly spammed this thread, send numerous PMs and also continuously scrapped me asking about this story. It feels great to see that many people still follow my work and I do appreciate all your compliments. All of you.
For PMs of my updates, please add:

Anyway... Happy reading 😛

Chapter 16
Don't give up on us

The sky was still clear as she stepped out of the cab and stood in front of the gigantic building. The icy wind nipped at her skin, it was unusually cold. She gripped her arms tight across her chest trying to keep herself warm. This is it, she thought, this is the last I can take. A heavy sigh escaped her pink lips as she made her way through the automatic doors. She sped along the halls racing to get to her cabin so she could be alone and in peace without the risk of being seen. She didn't want to be seen, she couldn't let anyone see how broken she was. It would ruin her reputation. She rushed towards the elevator and got in. He has probably moved on with whatever he does because I was just a phase. She scowled as pain shot through her just at the mere thought of being forgotten by someone she loves. His claiming reassurances that his relationship with Tanveer was meaningless meant nothing to her now as it was all lies. Every time he said the words I love you', LIES. She had never opened her heart before and this was why, her insecurities and jealousy were natural but those fairytales about the wicked witch of the west never got the prince charming seemed unreal. There he was. As soon as she stepped out of the elevators, Asad stood about 2 metres ahead of her, ordering people around as if nothing had affected him like it had affected her.
His body felt numb as he heard her footsteps echo off the marble flooring. His actor's mask slipped into place as he turned back to the poker game. What had I done? Well it was simple really; he had just broken up with the one woman who was his support or did she break up with him, he didn't really know but he did feel one thing. Zoya was gone and he doubted she would ever come back, he had just treated her like no one that morning and she would never forgive him. He didn't react when Zoya rushed past him and out of the door at the hotel or when she told him to leave her house when he had gone to hand over her phone. His mind wasn't there anymore, it has left with her. He had just been so sick of all the blackmailing and threatening from his poor excuse of a wife. Asad walked towards her as she walked out of the elevator and attempted a conversation.
"Hi," He said softly with a faint smile plastered on his face. He looked at her what seemed like an eternity. Gorgeous. Asad couldn't stop staring at Zoya who wore a red silky dress that rested just below her knees with a small waist length blazer accompanied by black stilettos.

"Good morning, sir." She replied blankly, focussing on anything and everything around her except him. She waited in anticipation for a reply but when nothing came from him, she hurriedly excused herself and rushed to her cabin.
He watched her retreating figure as he felt a twinge of guilt replace the remorse for a second. He moved his hand slowly up to the wedding ring he had on his finger, the metal was cool against his warm skin as he remembered how perfectly Tanveer had managed to ensnare his whole family with her pretence. He wished he fixed his mistakes, but maybe they were over for real and all because of a stupid revenge plan. He strolled to his cabin and sat in silence with his eyes closed while he relaxed his head casually on the headrest of his office chair. I need to do something to keep Zoya close. Asad sat and delved through his head back and forth trying to come up with something.
About two hours later, Zoya's receiver flashed Mr. Khan'. She looked at the landline and squabbled with herself whether to answer the phone or not. She couldn't attain a conclusion as to whether the phone call was professional or personal. Just let it ring and he'll disconnect once he's fed up. She decided and was firm with her decision. However, the phone kept on ringing nonstop until she finally answered it ten minutes later.
"How dare you, Miss Farooqui?! I've been calling you for the past ten minutes and you've just let the phone ring. Just in case it slipped your mind, then let me do the owners of reminding you that I'm your boss here. So, next time you better think twice before ignoring my calls or you will face calamitous consequences. Is that understood?" Asad warned her. His words hurt him more than they hurt her but he had no choice.
"Yes sir. I apologize. It won't happen again." Zoya replied, still unable to fathom how Asad had just spoken to her.
"Save the apologies. Next time I won't warn you. Now get everyone into the conference room within the next 5 to 10 minutes. I have an important announcement." He retorted back and quickly disconnected the call unable to keep up the facade any longer.
**********
Zoya couldn't believe she was there. She didn't want to be part of any hair brained ideas. How on earth did he call this a team building idea?
Out of the blue, Asad had called them into the conference room and announced they were going to take part in this stupid idea about working in pairs and answering questions about each other. Apparently, he had got the idea from watching House. Though Zoya boldly pointed out that none of them were doctors and that the office wasn't a hospital, Asad wouldn't budge.
And talk about the bad timing. She knew no one well enough in the office so when Asad asked everyone to pair up; Zoya for the first time wished that Ayaan was around. All the other employees paired up without hesitation and left Asad & Zoya on their own. She took a deep breath and reminded herself that she was in need of a job. Everyone around her got busy and all she did was gawk at them. She could hear the other co-workers gossip about her along with Asad as they laughed. Both Asad and Zoya didn't move an inch until she heard him announce.
"You may all leave the conference room and I would like an update on your progress at the end of the day. Miss Farooqui I would like you to stay here because I have decided we'll be partners for this exercise." He said while loosening his tie and taking off his blazer displaying his thin yet muscular body. He carefully placed his blazer over the headrest of the chair nearest to him and watched the employees rush out the conference room. After the bustle of the employees was at a distance, Zoya made her way and sat next to Asad. There was an awkward silence for a while until Asad initiated conversation.
"So... Miss Farooqui; the first task is a compatibility test titled How well do you know your partnet'." Asad shifted slightly in his chair and patiently waited for a response from her.
"Mr. Khan; you're supposed to be asking the questions not ogling at me like you've never seen me before." She retorted back at him clearly annoyed.
He sighed. "Okay, err... What's your favourite colour?"
Zoya crossed her arms over her chest. "Asad, you know that. Ask me something you don't know."
Asad smiled as he saw her relax and refer to him by his first name. His eyes widened at her assumption. Okay, so maybe he did know her favourite colour was pink, but that didn't stop him from teasing her.
"It's red right?"
"Asad!!" She screeched. Luckily for her, the conference room door was shut.
"Woah, calm down! I was joking. I know it's white." He scribbled down the answer and quickly read through the rest of the questions. He hated to admit it, but he knew most of the answers and it seemed that Zoya was thinking the same thing.
"This is stupid. I can answer all of these questions without asking you. Wait, does this mean we are the best team? Asad! This is so cool! We are like the ultimate couple! Like Brad & Angelina; except the adopting thing. I want my own babies. Maybe we can adopt later, after we've had at least three kids; a boy and two girls. That way the boy can protect the girls because he'll be the oldest." Zoya babbled on and on while Asad looked at her lovingly, unable to hide the smile that was playing on his lips.
"Zoya... One thing at a time. Let's take it slow." He giggled.
Zoya's face immediately fell before twisting into anger. She wasn't angry at him; she was angry at herself for falling into his words. "Excuse me." She rapidly left the conference room while Asad still smirked at the success of finding out what she really feels.
**********
Minutes turned into hours until the clock struck 13:30. Zoya was particularly happy only because of two reasons. Reason one being that it's finally lunch time and she would get some food; reason two: she would finally be getting an hour away from Asad.
A heavy beat played in her head as she got a dizzy spell and chose to ignore it thinking hunger is the reason. Tired feet carried her across her cabin and out into the main floor of the office which was literally empty and dead. All that could be heard was the tapping of Zoya's stilettos against the hard marble flooring. She pranced along the office floor and stood outside the elevator doors praying that Asad was nowhere around her. There was a time we used to know each other and love each other but now we're strangers and we forever will be. She sarcastically smiled at her thought as she felt dizzy again and this time her knees went weak too. Her vision blurred as her kneed refused to support her weight and nearly hit the floor when she felt a pair of masculine arms around her petite waist.
"Zoya!" Asad tried keeping her awake but all his attempts were futile as Zoya's body finally gave up and lay unconscious in his arms. Confused, he stood with Zoya with his arms until the elevator pinged and the doors opened. He scurried into the elevator and waited for it to hit the ground floor. Asad was frightened and it seemed like an eternity later when the elevator pinged again and the doors opened revealing the lobby. He ran straight to his car, carefully lay Zoya in the passenger seats behind as the chauffer held the door open and hastily drove off.
**********
Zoya lay unconscious on a hospital bed as a doctor ran a few tests. Asad stood outside and peered through the glass window every now and then impatient and scared. Approximately twenty minutes later; the doctor walked outside the ward with a wide grin plastered on her face.
"Is everything fine doctor?" Asad rushed to the doctor and asked in a concerned tone.
"There's nothing to worry about Mr. Khan. Your wife will soon give you a beautiful gift that's half of you and half of her." She smiled as she watched the expression on his face turn from scared to ecstatic. "We've administered some fluids as she hasn't eaten anything though the morning. She'll be conscious in a few hours. Congratulations, Mr. Khan." She extended out her hand.
Asad gladly shook her hand and showed some gratitude. "Thank you so much doctor."
Turning the door knob carefully not to disturb the room, he entered the hushed ward. The only sound was the beeping of the heart rate monitor. There she was, fast asleep. He observed her chest rise and fall as her eyes danced behind her eyelids. Turning to walk over to the couch that was accompanied by a table placed in the ward beside the bed. He miscalculated the distance of the table, loudly banging his foot causing Zoya to stir and open her eyes.
"Shit." He whispered.
"Hi," he said softly while rubbing his foot to ease the pulsating pain.
"What time is it?" She said, slightly disoriented.
"Just a little after two." He whispered, knowing she was upset with him.
Zoya got up and pressed the buzzer calling in a nurse. Asad stood and looked at her not knowing what to say. A few seconds after pressing the buzzer a young nurse walked into the ward along with the doctor who had examined Zoya earlier.
"How are you feeling Mrs. Khan?" The polite female doctor inquired.
"I'm not..."
"Doctor, what my wife is trying to say is that she's not as feeling as bad as she felt earlier. She would like to head home and rest if you permit her to." Before Zoya could finish what she wanted to say, Asad interrupted her mid sentence.
"Sure Mr. Khan. But please, make sure you take care of her. She shouldn't undergo any stress in this condition. Also, see to it that she eats properly as she's eating for two now." She smiled and walked out.
The doctor was long gone before Zoya could process what she was told. I'm going to give birth to Asad's child. We're going to be parents. She smiled and ran to him and hugged him; elated and overjoyed wouldn't have been sufficient to describe the way she felt. But, once again; reality hit her hard as she broke the hug and distanced herself from him.
**********
"Zoya, I..." Asad tried talking to her while they reached the office's parking lot but his words were left unsaid as she just ignored him and got off the car. Asad just sighed and looked at her retreating figure then got out of the car and made his way into the building. By the time he reached the lobby, Zoya was already getting into the elevator en route to her cabin. He followed behind. Zoya sat in her cabin pondering over the happenings that afternoon. Her reverie when Asad walked into her cabin without her permission and closed the door behind him.
"Zoya, we can work this out. I know we can." His voice was pleading. He couldn't lose her, not like this, not ever. "You can't give up on us! We're not this weak baby we..."
"Don't call me baby. I'm tired of your excuses. You just don't care, Asad. You never did." He was interrupted by her standing up, her eyes burning with rage.
"I do care," he said.
"No, you don't! You say it, but you don't show it anymore!" She was yelling, feeling the weight of her words slipping from her shoulders. There were so many things caught in her throat and now she was just letting it all out. "Do you even know how stupid I feel now for being pregnant with your child?"
"Come on Zoya. I promise to make an effort," he said as he stepped closer to her. She held up one hand, motioning him to stop where he was.
"Don't touch me; you don't get to excuse yourself again. You don't get to say that everything is okay! Nothing is okay; it never was since we met." She took a deep breath, fully aware of the tears gathering in her eyes. "I can't do this anymore, Asad. I can't." Her voice was a whisper, her sadness bare for him to see.
"Please, just give me a chance to prove that I can make this relationship work." He seemed so sincere that she almost believed him but she knew that there was no way, not even in a thousand years that their relationship would work.
"I'm sorry Asad but my heart has shattered into pieces so small that it's near to impossible to mend it." Zoya told him as she let the tears flow from her eyes.
"If only I could open you up inside to mend the heart I broke. I'd take half of mine and replace it with your part that hurts. I wish it was this easy but I never planned on this. Please don't deprive me of the feeling I get whenever I kiss you or when I hold you and comfort you. There's a tiny bit of hope inside me that keeps me alive and my love still remains." Tears formed in his eyes. At this moment he realized her would do anything to be with her, always.
"Don't think that I don't love you, you know very well I do, against everything I believe in. I just can't do this anymore. I can't have a relationship with you if I'm the second woman in your life." She apprehended then that there was nothing left to say.
"Please, don't do this. We can worth this out." He started to feel the pressure, the despair of being helpless to stop the end of his relationship. He took a step closer to her, intending to hug her, but she feared that if he touched her, she would melt and give in. So she guarded herself, taking a step back.
"I can't do this anymore. I love you and I know you love me but maybe it's just not enough." She said it quietly, and this time he was sure he heard her soft sobs. Turning her back to him, she grabbed her purse on the table and rushed out, not paying any attention to Ayaan who stood at the door dumbfounded at what he just saw.
Asad stood there for a long time, the latest events replaying in his head. He couldn't believe it. She was gone, and it was without a doubt his fault. Blinding his eyes fast, more tears flowed from his eyes onto his cheeks. Anger boiled inside him. He wasn't mad at her, he was mad at himself for taking the wrong decisions. How could it be that he didn't realize this would happen? Feeling the rage curse through his body, his fist slammed the wall, his knuckles bruising as he broke down into tears while Ayaan rushed to him and embraced his brother trying to comfort him.
