Chapter 29 Qubool HaiIt was the day of mehndi and everyone had left by midnight at the end of the function. Sanam looked at her mehndi, staring at the beautiful designs. And then she noticed it...the letter A...for Aahil. As she looked at it, one of the little boys that was still at the function came and tugged on Sanam's hair. Sanam looked at him and said, "Yes?"
The little boy giggled as he took Sanam's tikka away. Sanam gasped and playfully ran after the boy, As she did so, she bumped into Aahil and the two fell on the floor with Sanam on Aahil. Aahil and Sanam looked into each others eyes deeply and then they realized that some of the mehndi on Sanam's hand got on Aahil's cheek. As the two got up, Sanam was about to wipe the mehndi off Aahil's face until Aahil said, "Its okay. You can leave it." With that, Sanam shyly left. Aahil touched the mehndi on his face and smiled.
The next day, the day was here, The day of the nikah! Aahil and Sanam were equally nervous as they sat in their individual rooms getting ready. Aaliyah, Asma, Hurya, Humeira, and Latif were all helping Sanam to look her best. She was decked up in the finest bridal ghagra and jewels. Hurya put the finishing touches of earrings on Sanam and Sanam took a look at herself in the mirror. "Mashallah! You're looking amazing!" Hurya exclaimed.
"Yes, beta. Very beautiful." Humeira said.
"Thank you." Sanam said shyly.
"Well now that the dulhan is ready...we should take her downstairs." Latif said.
"Its okay Latif. You all go. Me and Hurya will take her down in a bit." Humeira said.
"Sure." Asma nodded as she left along with Aaliyah and Latif.
"Sanam, today is a special day for you. Its your nikah day." Hurya said.
"Yes, Sanam. This is where you will embark a new chapter in your life," Humeira told Sanam. "That's why I have something to tell you. When I met your uncle for the first time, we fought a lot. We never got along. But one day changed everything."
"What happened?" Sanam asked.
"Me and Haider were stuck in a jungle for a few days. In those days, he protected me with his life," Humeira explained. "That's when I realized something. Love is blind. We always have expectations of what our husband should be like. But in reality...love just happens. You can't control it. I never thought I would love Haider...but I ended up falling for him like he did for me."
Humeira's words struck Sanam. Hayye Allah! Could Humeira maasi be right?! Sanam asked herself. I hated Aahil right from the start. But when we left for Zayn and Aaliyah's marriage, everything changed slowly. I started to realize...that I may have feeling for him. Which I never wanted. But I guess that doesn't matter anymore. Because...I have fallen for him.
"Let's go, Sanam. We're getting late." Hurya told Sanam. Sanam nodded her head as she got up and went with Humeira and Hurya downstairs. All the guests looked at Sanam as she entered down the stairs with Hurya and Humeira. Haider looked at her with tearful eyes. Aahil eyed Sanam, mesmerized by her beauty as she came down looking angelic as ever.
Hurya and Humeira got Sanam to sit down on her side of the altar. The imam began the prayers with everyone joining in. After which, the imam looked at Sanam. "Sanam Ahmed Khan, Asad Ahmed Khan aur Zoya Ahmed Khan ki beti, kya aapko yeh nikah Aahil Raza Ibrahim ki saath qubool hai?" Sanam closed her eyes for a moment. She opened them, looking directly at Aahil. A smile formed on her face as she said, "Qubool Hai." She repeated the words twice and the guests clapped.
Aahil felt stunned, hearing the words of acceptance from Sanam. She accepted differently from what I thought. I've never met a girl like Sanam. One who embraces life so much...that she has given things to me in my life that I never had to begin with, Aahil thought to himself. I never thought I would say this...but I...Aahil Raza Ibrahim...have actually fallen for someone. And that...is Sanam.
The imam turned to Aahil. "Aahil Raza Ibrahim, Zakeer Raza Ibrahim aur Rabia Raza Ibrahim ka beta, kya aapko yeh nikah Sanam Ahmed Khan ki saath qubool hai?" the imam asked Aahil. Aahil looked at Sanam before answering. As soon as she looked up at him, Aahil said "Qubool Hai." After he repeated twice, the guests clapped as Aahil and Sanam had both accepted their nikah. "Mubarak ho!" the imam told Aahil and Sanam. Aahil and Sanam stood up, looking at each other from both sides of the altar.
At night, Sanam was waiting in the room for Aahil. She sat on the bed that was all decorated, nervous. I have to tell him tonight. After all, we're married now...FOR REAL, Sanam thought to herself. But how do I say it?! He should say so himself! Ugh! What to do?!
Just then, Aahil entered the room. He closed the door while Sanam got up from the bed and went up to Aahil. "I have to tell you something." she said.
"Oh...well...I have to as well." Aahil said.
"I'll go first."
"No, I'll go first."
"Excuse me?! Ever heard of ladies first?!"
"But I have something important to say."
"Well I do too!"
"I bet mine is more important!"
"What rubbish?! I have something I need to say now!"
"Fine. We'll both say it at the same time."
"Okay fine. Its not like its the same thing."
"Then we'll do it. Ready?"
"Yes."
"I LOVE YOU!" Aahil and Sanam said to each other in unison. As soon as the words came out of their mouths at the same time, they looked at each other surprised and shocked. They stood in a moment of silence, staring into each others eyes. "You...you mean it?" Aahil asked Sanam, shocked.
"Yes, I do."
"But...how...when?"
"You should also explain yourself."
"You go first. Ladies first."
"Fine," Sanam began. "When our paths first crossed, I hated you. For me, you were a beast...that took me away from my home...my world. But as time passed, I realize that you taking me away was the best thing that could have happened. Despite the dangers, the amount of adventure we had, I'll never forget. For all my life, I was always in the palace. I never dreamt of what the outside world was like as I thought home is home. But because of you, I got to see what the world really is. Despite the dangers out there, you helped me see and feel the beauty that this world has. And after so many instances, I felt like you had changed me completely. And now I realized...that this is love."
Aahil had tears in his eyes. He held Sanam's face with his hands. "Truth is...you changed me as well," Aahil said, teary eyed. "I thought you were a mere beauty when I first met you. I only saw you as the job I had to do and just do as I was told. But with you, you made me see things believe it or not. Seeing your joy at the things you never saw in the outside world made me realize...how much I have taken the world for granted. I could have had happiness all this time had I seen it that way. But the truth is...the only happiness I got was you. I never thought I would experience this feeling before. But I have. This...this is love, Sanam."
Sanam held onto Aahil's arm as he caressed her face. "And now...we're married. This is a new life for us." Sanam said.
"It is. And its the best for us. I want to start fresh in life. And I can...with you." Aahil said. And with that, Aahil and Sanam hugged each other tight as tears of joy came down their faces. Not only had they accepted their love for each other...but a new life to be spent together as well.
