Would like to add a few things regarding Ramadan.

Fasting has no meaning unless it's done from your heart, soul and mind. Only staying hungry does not please Allah, you have to pray and read Quran as much as possible during the Holy month. The purpose is getting a good routine which you should continue even after Ramadan finishes like getting up in the middle of the night sacrifising your sleep to say prayers.
How is fasting done? Well I can only speak for what I was taught. Getting up before dusk and say prayers, then have something to eat and then say morning prayers (Fajr) preferably in the Mosque but if not at home is fine. This procedure should be finished before sunrise. Then try to read a few pages from Quran as reading it in the morning gives more blessings. After that if there is time and possibility catch some sleep but people who go to school and work can't always do that.
Through out the day a fasting person should divert attention from worldly matters and focus more on Allah, spirituality and saying your prayers. 11 months of the year we spend on ourselves so one month of the year we should sacrifice in the name of Allah.
In the evening, after sunset, the fast should be broken with water or dates (there are a few other food items that can be used but these two are most common). If you can withstand hunger say your evening prayers (Maghrib) then eat a full meal. After that, once again if possible go to Mosque and say your night prayer (Isha) + added Taraweeh prayers which are only read during Ramadan.
A believing Muslim should finish reading the entire Quran during the Holy Month. Not always an easy task but it's possible with a little hard work.
One thing should be remembered...children, elderly, sick, travelling people should not fast. Also pregnant ladies or those who have their monthly should not either fast.
Hopefully I managed to explain without complicating too much.

Thank you that is v well described. Do you know why women having their monthly should not fast?

Women cannot pray namaaz either during those times of the month. It's because menstrual blood is impure and unclean. Only after shower at the end of the cycle can she pray and fast again.

I find it strange that whenever they portray Muslims on Indian television or in movies, they show them going to dargahs and similar places, which would make people associate dargahs/mazaars with Islam. From what I understand, this is totally contrary to Islamic teachings - there should be a direct interaction with the Creator and not through intermediaries such as saints or other religious people. Going to a dargah and praying, tying threads, is "shirk" (associating someone or something with the Lord) as per Islamic teachings, so I wonder why it is glorified on screen. Perhaps because such locations and situations provide a better 'cinematic effect' to show the spirtual aspect of a religion.

Most Muslims I know never go to dargahs and many even refuse to mix with people who do. Why this misrepresentation on screen? The sad fact is that people believe what they see on TV, and this is no different. I do not mean to offend people with this post, as I respect all religions/sects. I just find it strange that they equate Muslims with dargahs, when the truth is that only a certain small percentage/sect go to dargahs. In fact, this practice of creating/visiting dargahs only exists in the Indian subcontinent, and is unheard of in other parts of the Muslim world.

Considering how religious Asad is shown to be, I find it even more unusual in this serial that he visits a dargah/mazaar.

For those who are not aware: "A Dargah is a Sufi shrine built over the grave of a revered religious figure, often a Sufi saint".

Hi,

Yes you're the religion doesn't tell one to go to dargahs at all, and to a certain extent it is considered as shirk as well! I and my family do not believe in going to dargahs at all, cos we don't see the point of intermediaries when you can directly pray to God yourself! However quite a lot of people still believe in going to dargahs and saints and believe in them with all their heart which is wrong! I think the main reason they show it on tv is as you already pointed out to provide a better 'cinematic effect', I don't really see any other reason for them showing it!

PS I do NOT intend to offend anyone!!

This discussion has actually happened on this thread earlier and itwas conclued that this one subject should be avoided as there are many muslims on the forum who DO bellieve in going to dargahs n such topics would spark fights. :-) It wasnt official but it was agreed upon. Hhonestly, the last place to have arguments should be a thread on Islam so I would respect my fellow Muslims to avoid such sensative and touchy subjects. Thanks! <3>

*Request my fellows... sorry for the typos but writing from my phone.Anyway I do not go to dargahs myself but to each his own :-). Islam has many sects now and we have to respect everyones beliefs even if we consider them untrue.

PS sorry if I offended anyone

I was going through with the whole thread and for TM 👏
In last few pages somebody told Muslim women can't do Namaz and Fasting during menstural cycle but when that cycle has finished you need to cover/perform those days of Fasting and Prayers that you missed in that cycle.
Second, going to DARGAH or Mazaraat is not considering as SHIRK (including someone with Allah's Powers)... Islam has many sections and every section is agreed on this thing, these Sufis, Saints, and Wali (Allah's friends) are those who love Allah and only Allah... they are so nearest to Allah and Allah consider them as friends... Shirk is this if you said "this saint can give me everything" BUT this is not shirk if you said "with the pray/dua of this saint Allah Pak give me something"...
Its natural we ask for a waseela/source for everything... we can't reach on the roof withour staircase. We can't get our bread and butter without working... So simple as that if people are going to Shrines/Mazaraat/Darghas they are just going there to make them Waseela or source for their prayers acceptations... We are sinful people, those Sufis, Saints, and Walis are so pure, if we them to ask Allah fulfill our wishes its not considering as shirk...

Zoya wearing a backless blouse.I thought it was against muslim rules to show any part of a woman's body and it is sacred and needs to be covered up.It has reached a point where almost all muslim women are starting to wear Parda.Don't tell me Zoya is from America.I know a lot of American muslims. They too are very strcit about their dress code.
was wondering why there is not reaction about this??I know when Sania Mirza was playing tennis there was a lot of hubhub about her dress.more topics about the dress was talked about, rather than her achievements.Poor thing.

u r ryt dear it's strictly prohibited in Islam to show any of the body parts even hairs...
And even wearing jeans and tops is strictly prohibited as it resembles the sign of men's clothes...and it doesn't matter about Muslims forms America or any country Islam and its rules are equal for all

I totally agree with u sister...but Allah say ask me directly whatever u want why u need someone to ask something to me I think we should ask Allah directly..and yes they all were grt persons whom we can't match but Allah has given us a grtt weapon a weapon of dua with which any Muslim can face very difficulty...so we should ask directly to Allah without any source

I don't intent to hurt anyone sorry if u r hurt
