Superstars of TVs, TRP Aunties and TRPs

We have seen so many posts about how Qubool Hai TRP's would be doomed after KSG's exit, how RV'entry has salvaged the TRPs and turned the show around, how Surbhi has carried the whole show and ensured we get good TRPs - hope I did not miss any fan group :). And, I absolutely do not deny that all these stars have done great job - KSG was a dream-like and great Asad, RV is doing pretty well now and Surbhi is as wonderful as her fans believe her to be. I don't watch this show (except an episode or 2) so I completely trust fan's evaluation.

But, Superstardom on TV and movies are inherently different. If I pick up Srk, Amir or Salman for my movie, I can automatically dream of a bigger budget and an even bigger promotion for my movie, can take more risks as these stars guarentee an initial, they guarentee that people would notice the movie - and more often than not, in terms of business, that would suffice.

But that's so not true for TV. All Top rankers on forum are those who once graced a youth romantic show. It doesn't really mean anything in terms of maximum reach, popularity or talent - just that who has the largest set of dedicated teenaged fans. We take these ranks for superstardom. But the truth is - on TV - none of these stars can guarentee an initial, let alone consistently high TRPs. It is the content, the storyline, the leads and the supporting cast as a complete package that determines a show's fate. The fate of the rival show with another TV superstar should prove that point (at least about initial)

Look at the top rated shows - which are doing so well. How many of them have top forum-rankers? Yet, these are appreciated and day after day people tune in to catch up.

People on forum ridicule TRP Aunties but somehow I understand and respect their choice more. Diya Aur Baati, Balika Vadhu, Jodha Akbar - they all represent the dreams of today's Indian woman fighting for an identity beyond love and marriage; of carrying her own identity, her own dreams to a life after marriage. The significant other halves in these stories are not intense passionate lovers who keep hurling abuse due to past pain but humane, supportive great guys who want their wives to keep dreaming, to keey flying. Not only these women succeed on professional front, they do so without giving up the pleasures of traditional family time / happiness. I don't watch any show as I don't have the time. But my struggles are the same - How to balance personal (kid, husband, MIL) vs professional (accolates, promotions, friends at work). And that's why these shows are able to survive non-stars, change of actors and actresses and still remain a top show with iconic female characters.

Qubool hai also has a female lead who has her own mind and identity (though her dreams are still limited) and is very loveable, there is good drama and storyline and very capable actors. So people watch this show. And would continue to watch as long as they get their complete package - irrespective of which actor comes in and who quits.

Disclaimer: I read a lot on forums but do not watch any shows on TV. So, might be a little off in my perception of various shows.

Good post.
True, the ranking on Forum does not make any difference.
Me too don't watch any serial other than QH, so can't comment about other serials and their quality. But if they are getting good ratings, advertisers are ready to pay, and the audience is ready to watch, I guess they must be good.

But, didn't get what you are trying to say. Is it in defence of TRP audience or Aunties as they are called. But, I don't think anyone ridicules them per se, (maybe I have missed), but saas-bahu aspects may have been touched upon. Yes this forum constantly harps that QH is not a typical saas-bahu serial, me included. And if I watch a serial, I suppose I can say that IMO, it is better than other serials. Yes I do agree that QH even at its worst is better than the rest. But, I could be biased since I dont watch other serials.

So people watch this show. And would continue to watch as long as they get their complete package - irrespective of which actor comes in and who quits.

It is mostly my take on what I see everywhere on different forums. If TRP increases, people claim that their favorite caused TRP increase. Nothing wrong in that - as a lead actor does contribute and deserves some credit. But it's the package that works or gets rejected.
And if TRP falls, people lament about the taste of TRP junta and say that their great show is too good to be appreciated by "TRP Aunties" who just cannot get finer things and are stuck to sas-bahu and kitchen politics. Qubool hai forum might not see too many of such posts as TRPs are mostly good.
I am into applied research - work at night (to maximize time with my 2 yr old during the day) and spend some time reading forum posts (while some background process runs). Later on I don't often remember what I read on which forum 😊
And yes, you can absolutely proclaim Qubool hai to be the best - it's your time, your choice and your judgement 😃.

So people watch this show. And would continue to watch as long as they get their complete package - irrespective of which actor comes in and who quits.

I agree with every word and sentence Of your post. A very sensible post indeed and yes story and content is what makes a serial popular followed by execution and a good support from the star cast. Also respect the choice of trp aunties, they are mature women and would obviously prefer the content and good story over anything else, and all the shows that are doing well on the trp charts deserve to be there as they are able to deliver the same.

I wanna say something KSG as Asad was perfect to the 'T'. Zoya was superb till the time Zoyaan happened bcoz Zoya was shown as someone who believed Tameez n Tehzeeb doesn't come from the clothes yu wear but from wat yu believe is right n yu shouldn't do something which yu don't believe in. Still she stayed at SM as Ayaan's wife so i don't believe zoya was nice infact it was Dilshaad was wat Zoya could have been like. Dilshaad husband keft her she had no idea y still she took care of her kids. Wen her husband wanted her back she went ahead bcoz she believed it was right as even she wanted to be with him, she was more broad minded then Zoya. So, Kudos to Dilshaad character then Zoya's .
