I agree to some points that you just said, Nkapoor3. Whatever Asad is, Zoya is not less responsible here. Asad has always been portrayed as a typical patriarchal male family head, who considers "his" women as his "property". Zoya, the supposedly progressive, has never questioned that in this show. If she is accepting all the crap that is being dished out now, it is because she wants it so and she accepts him as her guardian or whatever.. she is not standing up against any accepted male patronizing here, imo.

However, that does not make the whole show and its characters any less "regressive".

Never question what goes on between the hearts of lovers . Asad and Zoya both value family and because of this passion of theirs they face so much hurdles in life. Don't have to go into detail . You are welcome. Love should grow an individual's self respect...if being in love with someone has to strip you from having any self respect that love is not worth it. Asad has stripped Zoya of her self respect completely.

It's absolutely adultery in every sense...and now more so because Gul today has validated the nikaah. It was very clear in the conversation between Asad and Ayaan. Any type of relationship between Asya will be infedility/adultery.

The love story was great in the start but now it has been ruined. The characters have been made such idiots that I don't really care if they are sleeping with half the town. Gul took a potentially different and intriguing love story and flushed it down the toilet!

Belittled? No - she isn't being belittled, she is being made into a regressive, mute fool. If anyone has belittled the character it is the writers!
