What on earth is wrong with our tele-serials?
All or atleast most of them start out with the female protogonists as being strong-willed, self-reliant, progressive, independent and honest.
But as the show progresses (read : when the girl falls in love / marries with the Alpha Male of the show), the same woman is turned into a wimp...the abla-bechari naari, who can do nothing but weep on her misfortune (Saraswati Chandra, YRKKH, PR), or let herself be physically and emotionally manhandled by the hero and others (IPKKND, Madhubala, SNS, etc. etc) or acts like a utter fool (almost every show has the lead girl doing the most ridiculous things which no one with half a brain would do in real life!) and now with Qubool Hai, she lets herself be traded like she is a stock-market commodity and not a living, breathing human being!😒
And the weiredest thing is that the worst treatment of female characters comes from the hand of two of the most powerful producers in the television industry. Ekta Kapoor and Gul Khan...both women!😕
How weird is that? Is this how these women, view other women to be?
These two women, instead of taking full advantage of their positions and attempting to show something progressive and path-breaking, reinforce sterotypes on women being weak, faint-hearted, indecisive, fragile and worst, letting the men in their lives control them completely!
If this was not the case, why show Nikhat's character as being such a wet blanket? She cannot take rejection...she cannot stand up for herself...she cannot deal with the fact that her life won't end if she doesn't get married! How can any man love a girl like Nikhat, when she hates herself so much?🤢
And Zoya? Poor girl! What a lovely start to her character was given! And now look? The same girl who walked out of her unwanted Nikhaah, who fought against Tanveer to save her man's honor, who never gave up on the search for her father, who was upright and bold, is now being relegated to such a status, where she is forced to accept a relationship she doesn't want, forced to get out of a relationship she doesn't want to give up on!
What happened to the outspoken Zoya, who could not be kept quiet, no matter what? Has Asad's love made her so weak and helpless??? If that is the case, then she was far better without falling in love with him! Atleast, that would have helped her keep her dignity and self-respect.
Drama for the sake of TRP and popularity is one thing, I think everyone understands that there are commercial considerations to be taken care of , while producing a show!
But Gul Khan, with the kind of power she has now, after three back to back super-successful show, could have (and should have) tried to make a change and shown something truly progressive in her show!
