A/N: Well this chapter was difficult to write, especially Asad's reaction. Don't forget that this is Asad from a while back, so I wanted him to react in a more, previous Asad way, not the same Asad we love so much today :)To be completely honest, Asad's reaction to Imran being Tanveer's baby daddy was very un-Asad-like to me, so I tried it this way :)
Also, this chapter might have been even later if it weren't for Linsie, so thanks a lot for the advice as well as the reminders to update 😆
Chapter 5
"Bhaijaan, me and Imran aren't getting married." Najma said wiping up her tears. For a minute, Asad felt like crying for joy, before realizing that tonight was their engagement. He knew at that moment that something had gone wrong. He spun around to face Imran, "What is going on?" he took a breath before continuing, "Marriage is not a joke, one day you say you want to get married and the next day you don't? It's a lifelong commitment you make to someone, on religious and legal grounds. If you don't want to marry then don't give someone false hopes." His voice was harsh, but he tried his best not to shout and make a scene that might affect his sister.
"Mr. Khan, at least listen to their reason..." Zoya began, as Najma started crying in her arms again. "Ms. Farooqi, it's better that you don't speak in my family matters. I think you've done enough for this fiasco of a wedding as it is, let me find a groom for my sister." No longer able to hold in his anger, he was even harsher to Zoya. "Hey, you can't speak to her like that! Who do you think you are? Randomly going around shouting at others," one thing Farhan couldn't stand was someone insulting his friends. This time Asad swiftly turned to face him, "As a guest of this house I don't think you should be telling me how to treat..." Farhan stopped him with a dry laugh, "Well you know what?" He pointed at Zoya, "I've known her since she was six years old. She's a childhood friend of mine, and we grew up together. If you insult her, it's like you're insulting my family and I won't stand for it."
Zoya suddenly said loudly, coming in between them, "You guys, can we please focus on Najma and Imran?" She turned to Farhan first, "Look, Mr. Khan is Najma's brother, and since he believes he can make the best decision in this scenario, against my better judgement, I'm going to let Najma and Imran explain everything to him." She then turned back to Asad, before Farhan could reply, "You know what Mr. Khan, I don't treat marriage as a joke, for me, marriage is that one promise that should be kept forever." She stopped Asad from cutting in, "Let me speak Mr. Khan. Now is the worst time you could have to take your anger out on me. You have no idea what Najma is feeling right now and yes, maybe I was the one who pushed this relationship, but you know what? I did it because Najma is like a sister to me, I would never want anything bad for her. Something else Mr. Khan, I trust that Najma is able to make her own decisions. Perhaps you don't believe in her enough," and she turned to look at Najma, placing her hand on Najma's shoulder, "but I believe in her, and I support her decisions, whatever they maybe. That's why I'm going to go back into the house and speak with Phoopi. Najma and Imran will explain everything to you, since you believe I have no right to speak in your family matters. Perhaps you are right," she finished sadly.
As Zoya left, Farhan followed behind her.
Asad, still in the midst of his anger, turned to Najma and Imran. Najma stared at her brother, unable to speak as tears welled up in her eyes. "You know Bhaijaan, I always respected your decisions, and I know you want the best for me. I also know that you were unhappy with our relationship. Before I tried to forget about Imran, but fate brought him back to my doorstep. I tried to let go of him for you. For three years I wondered if anyone would love me. Yes I have you and I have ammi, and now I even have Zoya. But was it wrong for me to want someone to love me?"
Dilshad turned to see Zoya standing behind her, tears in her eyes. "Zoya beta, whats wrong?" she asked, alarmed by the fact that the usually strong and resilient girl had tears in her eyes. "Phoopi, you were the one who told me to find someone for Najma...and I just wanted to make the two of you happy." Dilshad now felt a sudden chill, "What happened Zoya? Please tell me the straight truth." Zoya nodded, leading her into the kitchen which was thankfully empty. Taking a deep breath, she explained the entire scenario, leaving out her altercation and little fight with Mr. Khan. Dilshad leaned on the table, "My poor Najma," she said sadly, "it's all my fault, I should have stopped her from rushing into this."
As soon as Najma mentioned that Imran was the father of Tanveer's baby, Asad grabbed him by the collar, "Go out there and tell everyone what you really are, Imran." The disgust in his voice was clearly evident, "You aren't going to walk out of here today without everyone realizing what kind of a disgusting, low person you truly are. I'm not going to have anyone believe that something is wrong with my sister. The whole world will know that you are a liar and a cheat. The whole world will know that you tricked to innocent girls and played with their feelings. Everyone will know why this engagement broke, and everyone will know that there was no fault of my sister in any of this. Everyone will know, that neither of my sisters was ever at fault. After that I will throw you out of my house like the dirt you are. You made this situation, and now you'll lie in it." Asad grabbed Najma's hand and pulled her back into the house.
Imran stood alone in the garden for another few minutes. He wondered how everything had gone so wrong. Even Farhan, who had always looked at Imran like a little brother he loved very much, had looked at him today like he was truly a terrible person. He had hoped that by telling Najma the truth, the Tanveer problem would be fixed. Now, the problem was even bigger, he had just managed to ruin everything with Najma. There was no solution in sight, and he wished that he had never met Tanveer.
"Ms. Farooqi..." as Zoya was walking out of the kitchen, she ran into Asad. "Where is Najma?" she asked, keeping her voice low so others couldn't hear. "I took her upstairs to her room." He stopped for a minute to gather his thoughts, "I know I said a lot of things to you, but please believe me, I didn't mean to..." Zoya put her hand on his arm, to stop him, "Mr. Khan, maybe what you said was what you really meant, and well, looking at the situation right now, maybe both of us need to take some more time to sort our thoughts out. Maybe you're right Mr. Khan, everything was so fast because I wanted to help Najma have what we have, and just like I trust myself to understand my feelings, I trusted Najma to understand hers." Asad sighed loudly, "Ms. Farooqi, look..." Dilshad came out at that moment.
"Ammi, listen," Asad began, only to be cut off, "Asad beta, it's good that whatever happened, happened before any relation was final. If Najma found out after her Nikah, her life would have been ruined. What's even more important is she took the decision to break things off with Imran herself. Both of them said what they wanted to say and made it clear where they stand." She looked at her son, willing him to understand that tonight, the fact that all the truth was out saved Najma from having to face a scenario like the one Dilshad had faced. "What are we going to tell all these people, Ammi?" Dilshad looked at her son, and said in a quiet but strong voice, "The truth, we are going to tell everyone here the truth. If there is one thing I learned to value, it's the truth."
Ayan was getting restless, standing in this house, attending this particular ceremony and being unable to stop his sister from hurting. When he saw Imran trying to make his way into the house undetected, he decided to follow Imran, out to the front where a car was parked. When the door opened, he noticed a girl get out, and turn to face him. When he realized that the girl was Tanveer, the same girl who had tried to trap his Bhaijaan, he tried to come closer, but stay out of their focus, so he could hear the conversation.
"So Imran ready to go?" Imran now realized that he had nothing to lose, but he remembered Asad's words. Well if he was going to go down, then Tanveer was coming with him. "I've made all the arrangements Tanveer, but first come inside and watch our engagement. If you still want to get married after that, we will take your car and go wherever you want and get married." Tanveer let out an evil laugh, "Imran, your thing with Najma makes no difference to me, but it would be fun to see exactly what I'm taking away from her. You go back inside, I'll come in quietly in a while, it's not the time to make a scene yet. "
"Ayan? What are you doing here?" Ayan turned to face the girl who had tapped him on the shoulder, unable to figure out who she was. "It's me, Naila!" she said with a smile, "we went to college together, remember?" Ayan suddenly remembered, "Oh yes Naila, I used to always borrow your notes." He wondered how to get rid of her, because right now, he needed to hear Imran's conversation. "By the way, what are you doing here at Najma's engagement?" she asked, curiosity lacing her voice. "Oh uhh..." Naila quickly interrupted, "Najma would have been in college after you, and if you were Dilshad Khala's relative, then we would have known you...And you're too young to be Asad Bhaijaan's friend!" she finished. "Wait, how are you here?"Ayan asked trying to avoid answering the question. "Dilshad Khala's Ammi and my Nani were cousins you see." Then she continued to talk about her family, which Ayan tuned out, turning to see that Imran and Tanveer were gone. Can anyone recommend any good asya stories to read pls.
