Sorry for the late reply - TRP is now calculated on a monthly basis - they should be out in the 1st week of August.

Hopefully they realize what a force we are and find a way to cater to us and in the process make money from it.

Yes - we are the masses - i think only 12k households are taken into account for TRP - I think one post by Oishi or an FF can cross that if we all tried. The fact that madhubala has 180k views or that ARSHI (almost kiss) scene has over 1M views and soo many likes is a clear indication that the online viewers are greater (and often more verbal - prime example IPKKND)

Cara.. this is an absolutely wonderful post.. The so called TRP masses are actually a few in India who watch the show at the time it airs and they actually represent perhaps 1/3 rd of actual viewership.. because even in India many watch shows online when they get time.. And TRP is not calculated among the viewership abroad in other countries, who watch it as it airs.. But all these people makes a show successful... and these days everything is being advertised through internet as well.. So its not that they cannot earn any money through internet.. they must be but they would not acknowledge it.

And if we think it in another way take the example of the Gold awards... those who voted and made the actors, the show and the channel successful did it through internet right.. and the channel in turn garnered a lot of advertisements and profit through the awards itself.. but indirectly who helped? the internet crowd.. so its not only those few who would watch the awards on time on 28th when it airs in India who really will make the awards successful.

I think you should post this on F32 or ZEE website.😊

Thank you Kaussar for commenting as i know you are busy this month - I agree with everything and especially the underlined parts. Your comments made mean realize that TRP's originally probably started for advertisement agencies. Now that the advertisers are realizing the potential of online they are slowing reducing advertising budgets for other modes like radio and newspapers - unfortunately until this does not impact TV industry we will not see any major changes.

But I watch on the Internet too because I want to watch it earlier. And trust me ... If you're talking TRP aunties of Canada ... and if they're anything like my IPad carrying mother ... they are watching their shows online and rewatching them later on tv! Zeetv just broke off from their partnership with starplus earlier this year and they probably wanted to solidify their market here with legit subscriptions and IMO that's why they have put so much energy into shutting down the online episodes here in Canada. It's really frustrating if you want to watch a favourite older episode and can't find it. And it's really maddening that my voice as a passionate and loyal fan isn't as valued because of where I live!

Lol.. girl u descibed my mom!!! As i commented on a previous post that even my grandma can skype to talk to relatives back home.

As for Zee breaking their partnership with star plus - i do not have a lot of info but i do know that Rogers had a bundle deal therefore we got it - if the deal between the networks is broken we have to pay separately for starplus and zee then we might just end up investing in the Jadoo devise.

I normally watch all the older episodes on desi tashan or youku (its Chinese version of you tube but thanks to Google translation language is no big issue)

US / UK are also trying to take care of offline audience including internet views and views post DTH record etc. Yes - if BBC and other major net works can get up and smell the coffee why can't Hindi channels?

By the way, the current sample for determining TRP is as small 12,000 households in India which is pretty non-representative sample and that is also expected to be corrected. Yes - i bet we get more views on QH IF page in one day! We also have more likes on QH Face book pages!

Great post..I agree with most of it !

Unfortunately the way for calculating the viewership of a show is not accurate..I have always been upset about this system since IPK days..

They should definately add up the online viewership as well

because what should matter is the real number of viewers..

If online audience plus trp audience are added up i am sure there would be no one who can beat QH ..same was the case with IPK
