Bring me back to life
Part 2:
We retrieved back to the pet shop and bought a cute puppy for my sister Najma. I order the driver to take mom home since I had some unfinished crucial work to be done. As I walked towards the route of my office, I saw her. I hid behind the pillar and watch her from afar. I was thunderstruck by what she was doing. She picked up the larger piece of broken glass of the beer bottle and placed it on her wrist- certainly I know what her next action was supposed to be. I wanted to rush towards her and stop her of her stupidity but before I could, I saw her escaping when a drunken man approaches in her direction. It's weird how she bravely wanted to suicide, but when a person come close to her; her eyes showed fear and she wants to escape hurriedly.
~~~~~~~~
While I was about to take an action, I sense a pair of eyes watching me- but whom? I turned my head to my right and saw a drunken man forthcoming towards me. I started shivering, not knowing what to do; I ran away wishing deep down in my heart that he wouldn't follow. I wasn't really as courageous as I looked like, but I wanted to suicide! Leaving this world, leaving everyone behind. Everyone? I don't have anyone. I was always alone without having loved ones beside me.
~~~~~~~~
Before I could chase her, she ran away. I didn't know what was so special about this lonely girl who was pulling me towards her but she surely considered necessary help. I walked to my office- I wasn't the boss but I'd just call it my office since my dad was the boss. Dad was occasionally on business trips to different countries which is why I had to manage everything behind him even though I was on my vacation.
~~~~~~~~
I scuttled away even thought I didn't know the purpose behind but I had to. I extended my run until I was out of breath. I was running around like a headless chicken, bumping into people and trees. I started pacing lowly to catch up with my breathing but I wasn't aware of the fact where my feet were leading me to. I was just drifting around like a hopeless soul but then I felt something. I felt a tingling feeling in my stomach, in that case I realized I was starving but I had no food. I sense the drowsiness taking over me and phew... there I go! Everything went black and I collapsed on the ground beside the gigantic tree.
~~~~~~~~
Office was a disaster since I hated sitting in one room and staring at piles of file placed in front me. It was just not my cup of tea! I sat in my cabin gazing at the wide open file placed on my desk while my mind was engrossed in the thoughts of that deprived girl. Despite the fact that I hated office, I took my work seriously because it would be very irresponsible of me to leave everything to my dad; I had to share his burden instead of being one. But today I was just not me! Where are my silly antics which I use to play on my employees gone? I decided to finish off my work and leave as quickly as possible.
"Oh Damn! No car today" I murmured under my breath. So I decided to take the shorter route to my house. Besides that, it wasn't really a bad idea walking home since I needed fresh air anyways.
I walked silently sensing the empty road was much more soundless than it usually is which is why it was daunting me out. I paced slowly when I caught sight of something lying beside a tree. From afar, it looked like a human figure yet I was reluctant to go near. What if it was a dead body? What if someone did that purposely to accuse me of murder? But why would someone do that? I was loved by everyone, I had to admit that I had enemies but those bunches of idiots were just jealous of me being rich and getting excellent academic results. Lots of questions in my mind were overlapping each other. I finally attained the courage to take a step further and I saw what I guess I was trying to forget; that poor girl lying near the tree. She was unconscious. What happened to her? Did she pass away? I pat on her shoulder gently wishing she would wake up. "Hello miss, can you hear me?" I tap on her cheek slightly, at the same time her arm slip from her abdomen to the ground. I placed my fingers on her wrist to check her pulse. Oh yes! She's alive which I guess is good news. I sat beside her for a while not knowing what to do with her or either where to take her. I picked her up in my arms taking her to the bench- her trademark where I saw her for the very first time. She was extremely light or should I say even lighter then my 16-year-old sister. Did she faint because of hunger? How is she alive if she didn't have had food?
~~~~~~~~
Suddenly, I felt in some way as if I was floating in the air or was it someone carrying me? Who would be so compassionate to show me some sympathy? My heart engenders a feeling of fear while my slacken eyes open progressively desiring to see the person carrying me. Though it was blurry, I could easily make out it was the guy- the guy from the car, they guy from the pet shop. Why do I consistently end up seeing him since yesterday?
~~~~~~~~
As soon as I placed her on the bench, I rush towards the nearby house and thump on their door. I didn't know if anyone lived there, but I decided to take a shot in the dark. An old man came out and gaze at me with puzzlement. He looked at me creepily with his white hair which was hardly any, so few that I could even count them on my fingers and two of his middle teeth were out of order with one golden tooth.
"Can I have a blanket please?" I made an innocent face which I occasionally make when I need something so that the other party couldn't resist me.
"Just a minute son" he retrieves inside to get a blanket. Well, the old man was not as scary as he appears; he seemed rather warmer or kind-hearted. Guess I just don't have the ability to recognize people from their appearance.
~~~~~~~~
He placed me on my bench- well I identify it as my bench seeing that I have been here for approximately six months so my bench is my home and he dash off. I was saddened but the fact that he at least helped me made me reassured that humanity still subsists in this world. No one had ever been so sympathetic towards me and I appreciate how he did what others didn't.
~~~~~~~~
He gave the blanket in my hands while I thanked him. I was putting the blanket on the girl when I noticed that the old man was standing beside me instead of being in his house. Was he a ghost or I was too involved in the blanket session?
"You have a great soul son" the old man broke the silence between us which actually enlightened the atmosphere.
"Thanks" I replied not knowing what I should actually say. It has always been an awkward situation for me when a stranger complimented me since I mostly had no clue what should be my come back. The part I hate the most was they would unexpectedly start a conversation with you as if they've known you since you were born.
~~~~~~~~~
I shut my eyes sensing him coming near me again just to avoid talking to a complete stranger. He sheltered me with the blanket when someone beside him converse with him. I recognized the voice, it was the old man who always place the food beside my bench- the only sympathetic soul I know in this world. I kept my eyes shut listening to their conversation, ya I know that's wrong but it wasn't my mistake if they stood beside me.
~~~~~~~~
"You know her?" he asked being curious. I felt different about this stranger. I actually in fact wanted to talk to this outlandish old man because he mentioned her- the girl who I eagerly wish to know about.
"No, no I don't. Do you?" I turned towards him waiting for his reply.
"In a way yes but also no. I don't know her directly but I do indirectly as she has been in my neighborhood for roughly six months." he explained to me patiently.
I wanted to do more of this questioning but my cell phone rang which I wished hadn't. I saw my mom's name flashed on the screen so I pick up.
"Ya ammi...I'm on my way" I swiftly cut the phone and get ready to continue the questionnaire but the old man wasn't there then I saw him entering his house. Undoubtedly, it was way speedy for an old man.
~~~~~~~~
I kept resting there on the bench listening to them. By the conversation, I was sort of confirmed that no doubt, he is a bighearted person. I wondered why he was so different than the rest, why can't all the people in this huge world be like this thoughtful soul. I don't know what to say about this guy. Does such a person really exist or am I imagining?
