But does wearing mini skirt in India supposed to be modern?

Zoya is a strong character.. She is a independent women with a mind of her own... About Asad pushing her around, well let's just say, she is a women deeply in love .. But she does speak up and doesn't make dumb moves like most female leads.. Compared to the female leads I have seen on Indian television with all their sacrificing shit, she is by far, the strongest.. As far as her forgiving Asad, well 1) she is in love with him 2) she is not a perfect character and has flaws... But she definetly doesn't fall under the weak female lead category.. Take a poll if you wish

Just like wearing a mini skirt does not make you a feminist, similarly wearing a short skirt doesn't make you a non-beleiver or shameless!

Clothes don't make a man and if you judge a book by its cover, then its blinkered thinking and you are going to loose out on so much in life.

I agree with what Zoya said - yeh mere kapde hai, mera character nahi!

I see no harm in wearing a mini skirt as long as you are comfortable with your sexuality. If it is indecent, then the problem lies in the eyes of the beholder not with the person who is wearing it.

Repression does nobody any good, ever!

And more than clothes, its important who and what you are as a human being!

Islam as a religion has many wonderful tenets and practices, don't trivialise it and bring it down to clothes!

Since when.?? She is the strongest female character I have seen on Indian television so far...

I too used to think that she is a strong character but not anyone, she is likeable and amusing, yes! The strongest character in the show currently (female) are Razya and Tanveer! They are pretty shrewd, a step or steps ahead of everyone else...and what the other writer said about Zoya taking all the rubbish from Asad- I totally agree!!! She should have broken that engagement with Asad- I wish she had the guts to do it- but she disappointed me

For all those claiming Zoya had no business wearing what she wore and comparing it to wearing pajamas to work - Zoya clarified that she had tried it on for Najma's sake and in the "privacy of their home".

Zoya did not step out in the garden or answer the door, she just tried it out - and Asad came down like a ton of bricks on her - so NOT Fair and so very judgemental just like Zoya said...

And btw, the backless blouses on sarees are hardly less sexy than a little bit of leg.

Zoya was not out on a motorcycle in that skirt. She was IN HER HOME...some people really need to get a grip.

I have spent a decent amount of time in NYC too. And I was tempted by the miniskirts and eventually did wear them. I still have them back here but I know that in India, you can't wear them just anywhere. You need to be careful of the surroundings and company. But in the US, no one gives a hoot coz so many others are wearing it and somehow, it doesn't seem self concious to do so. The society is very accepting and you don't get leered up and down for wearing it.

A famous saying 'Never judge a book by its cover'
Same with zoe ok if a majority of muslims dont wear it
Does not mean all dont wear it
It was just a skirt and she herself said these are my clothes and not my character
You say you are living in california even i have lived there and you cannot deny but american girls do wear mini skrits
Maybe even zoe would have worn but it doesnt make her any less than others
If you find it wrong doesnt mean every muslim finds it wrong

In red i agree
If asad finds mini skirt wrong then wearing backless blouses is also wrong
As a common person in india i dont wear backless blouses
But then it dosent mean that no one wears them

Firstly, skirt and nonsense completely define how I feel about it now. This is such a ridiculous conversation now especially when the episode is over, done with and one that put forward a point very well.

Secondly, why are we generalizing an entire religion/ culture based on fiction? This show is just that, fictional, not real and made with some liberties. The woman at the helm of this show is a proud Muslim and a successful woman. Let's just allow her to tell the story and appreciate the fact that she makes it all possible.

Did you watch the scene? She just tried out the skirt to show Najma when accidently the skirt fell out of her wardrobe, she didn't wear it to go out. She made it clear she used to wear it in NY but doesn't wear here because Asad doesn't like it.

I honestly respect your opinions but I think the issue here was only about a women being judged time and again for what she wears, and not religion. They happen to be a Muslim family, but if the show had any other background too, this could have been the case if Asad was strict, and stubborn. The issue was much more than that, it was about how she does things to please him and would not have worn that skirt out of her room had she known anyone else or Asad either were outside her own room.
