Dude. this micro mini thing was dumb. I hate, HATE this topic. Like really? I am a feminist, yes. I live alone and am independent, a working muslim girl. But I agree the skirt was too short and the fact that she said that's what she wore in New York upset me. This topic could have been done without her having had said thats what she wears in new york. I was born and raised in California, and I never dressed like that and have never aspired to either. And Yes clothes do determine culture, there is a thezeeb to wearing clothes and a level of respect that is embedded in one's way of dressing. This in my opinion was a way people are convincing Muslim girls to dress in this kind of clothing. And this is not the first time this took place. They did this with Humaira, the clothing topic... I just think this is not the way to go about things. Religion alteration and beliefs is what has been messing many people, of all religions. The could have easily sent this message out through her jeans and shirt opposed to making her wear a mini skirt, not just a skirt, a mini skirt.

I am sorry if i offended anyone, but really this was not fair in my opinion. This made me feel bad.

ADDITIONS:
Exactly. Like I wont lie and say i have never seen Muslim girls dress in trashy clothes, but those are also the girls who do other things they should not including, lying and conning people and much more.
But to try and show a normal moderately religious person like that was upsetting.

This is a topic that should not end here. People need to stop judging US Muslim Women abroad and thinking because a handful do that, that all of us dress that way and think that way. This is just not fair.
And I agree I was happy that she considered that only women were home upon wearing it, but the fact that she said she wore it in NY was pointless. I just find it inappropriate. I try on things with my mom and sister but would i buy it and wear it outside? Hell no. The problem is people are trying so hard to westernize that they are really losing culture. Like I went to Pakistan a few years back and I was more concerned about clothes and how much was showing than many of the "modern women" outside were.
Clothes do, I think, represent how you are.
Example: You will not dress in pajamas, or a short skirt, or dress or un-ironed clothing to work, will you? And if you do, people will judge you right? Therefore Let us be honest we are constantly A. Judging people or B. Being judged. Or C. Both.

I really think this episode needs to be apologized for. And I think they should stop this westernization crap.
I am sitting here, in the US, as i type this wearing home shalwar kameez. We cry and complain about being told what to do and losing our culture and beleifs and all this about how the British split us and the Americans are ruining us, but really, it is us NOT Respecting ourselves and US sacrificing culture. I am quite Liberal, but we become so vulenerable and weak that we are the ones killing our roots.
Yes I Do and will continue to wear jeans, skinny jeans and all, but with a longer shirt, something more modest, because I respect my culture. I am American and I do not need to take off all my clothes to prove that I was born and raised here. Be true to who you are and THEN, ONLY Then can we expect to stop being ran over by people and their views about and for us.

Once again. Everyone has their own views about this, I am not trying to offend anyone. I just feel offended, hence I am sharing my view.

The writers don't care about what Muslim women wear in the west. They wanted to make a point and didn't care how much nonsense would be shown in the process. They could have done with a mini skirt that was mid thigh and it would have been as affective and believable. You are not alone in thinking this way. The writers have said, they are writing a show about a family who happens to be Indian and then Muslim - the fact they are Muslim means nothing to them in any fashion. I didn't expect to see them wear hijaabs and burkas but this was another extreme I was aghast at watching. Nah, don't worry, the only people you are offending are those who do not understand anything about what liberal Muslim women wear in teh west or why we'd be offended or unhappy wiht how we were being portrayed.

I completely agree with you. I live in England and I have never thought of wearing such a short skirts - without tights or anything underneath as well!

When Zoya said she wore it in NYC, I was a upset.

I see muslims girls who wear it, I think it's inappropriate because you are exposing too much and it is very wrong. I'm not going to apologise if you don't agree with me cause that is my belief. Trust me, I am a feminist. But by being a feminist does not mean you wear what you want and then expect people not to judge you. What you wear, somewhat depicts your beliefs, and as I muslims girl those beliefs are not right. By Zoya wearing that skirt, it encourages other mulsim females to do the same in the name of "don't judge me by what I'm wearing" whereas it is completely wrong. The show has depicted Islaam in a wrong way. Many will say it is just a backdrop and they are modern muslims. But that's not the point. If you can't show something in its correct manner, then don't.

Who said it has ended? I have not seen a single PM sent to me to say it has and she has written nothing of the sort that even vaugely resembles an attempt to bash. I believe she has expressed her opinion in a polite and reasonable way. Why are voices here silenced who do not like what they saw? That's discriminating against the minority.

The fact that she wore it show Najma slightly - very slightly - made this whole thing a little better for me. She wore it considering the fact that only the women were home and Asad had gone out, and all she had to do was wear it to show Najma.
But I must admit I was a little taken aback when she said she wore such skirts in NY 😕 I'm not Muslim, nor do I know the stand the Muslim members have taken against this Skirt Fiasco, but I believe the skirt did NOT show a very good portrayal of a 'Muslim' woman - and I say this loosely. Religion and culture aside, that was a REALLY SHORT skirt.
I don't judge people for wearing mini-skirts or anything because like Zoya said, these were her CLOTHES not her CHARACTER. But I thought the length of the skirt was pretty inappropriate, all things considering.
Just my two cents 😛

This show has nothing based on the Muslim background. One doesn't need to wear mini skirts to show how modern/liberal she is.
CV's should know that it's not by making the characters say "Mash'Allah", "In Cha Allah" and "Allah Hafiz" that the show is gonna have a Muslim background.
Zoya could have been angry on Asad on some other issue, like when he insulted her parents...

I watch this show like any other Indian show, forgetting that it is "based" on a Muslim background, because for me it is absolutely not...
