Chap 3..

I'm back with the new chapter *Asad and Zoya Conversation finally!*😉

CHAPTER 4

Asad was slipping his watch into his wrist when he got a phone call. The number was unknown.

"May I know who is speaking?"

"Is this Dilshad's place?" asked a female voice he had never heard before.

"Yes, I'm her son Asad speaking"

"Asad, I am Zoya's api, Zeenat. How are you? You were a kid when I saw you last", she said perhaps reminiscing. There was silence on the other end. Asad waited, expecting her to speak up.

"Asad, could I please speak to Zoya? Her phone is unavailable and she hasn't been online for a few days now. She is fine right?".

Zoya. Her name brought a crease on his forehead. Zoya should've been in U.S. and her sister didn't seem to have absolutely any idea about it. Where was Zoya?

"Zoya has gone to the market with Ammi, she is not at home.",

he decided against telling Zoya's sister that she was no more at his house because of his stupid arrogance and anger. He did not want to worry her unnecessarily and moreover he did not want to admit his carelessness and irresponsibility. Where had Zoya gone?

Maybe she had missed her flight, she had called him too, but he had been too crazy to respond. The thought then wandered into his mind that maybe she needed help. He regretted his indifference towards her more than ever.

"After she comes back, tell her to call me. Take care and may god bless you." Zeenat's voice snapped him back to reality.

He instantly dialed Zoya's number but it was unavailable, just as Zeenat had said. It worried him all the more.

He was still thinking about what he would do, when the phone rang again. It was again an unknown number.

He held the phone to his ear. There was silence at the other end. The silence was broken by a quick sob.

"Zoya, is it you?" he asked.

He didn't know how he knew that it was Zoya, he just did. There was silence at the other end. Maybe he had shot an arrow in air, but his heart told him that it was her. He could even identify her breaths. Waiting for a reply was like plucking out his fingernails.

"Mr. Khan" that familiar voice and Asad could imagine Zoya somewhere mouthing his name. He heaved a sigh of relief.

"Where are you? Where have you been all this time? I was so….." he did not want to say worried, although he had been anxious as hell.

"Mr. Khan, I'm with a friend of mine. I met her at the airport and she insisted me to stay with her for a few days since it had been a long time. "there was a pause.

"So I missed my flight, I'll stay for a few days and then leave." she finished.

"What about your phone?"

"I lost it, I'll soon buy a new one", Zoya said. Asad was unconvinced. Her voice seemed strange. Like she had been crying for a long while. Asad was perplexed. Zoya had never spoken about any friend from Bhopal, he wondered if she even knew anybody except his family and Ayaan. It was odd and her explanation seemed superficial.

"Are you alright?" he asked instinctively.

After a long pause Zoya answered"Yes, I am ……Fine".

"I just wanted to say, I'm sor-" Asad started gathering his courage but the call was disconnected.

Asad called the same number again but it was unavailable. This girl was bewildering him.

He tried a few more times but then gave up. Maybe there was no signal.

He had to tell her to call her sister. Shit.

But she didn't even tell him which place she was. It was unsettling.

He was still baffled when he got yet another call. He hoped it would Zoya but it was someone else.

"May I please speak to Mr. Asad Ahmed Khan?" a manly voice requested.

"It's me speaking."

"Good morning, Sir. I am speaking from Farouche Taxi Services Pvt. Ltd."

"Yes?"

"I called up to remind you to retrieve Ms. Zoya Farooqui's luggage from our head office."

"Wha…!Wher…?Zoya's lug…." Asad's voice trailed away into oblivion.

The horrible truth had just punched him in the gut.

"Hello? Are you there Mr. Khan?"

"I don't understand" Asad said confounded.

"I thought you knew, Mr. khan. Ms Farooqui got off the taxi near Zobay crossroads and she never came back. Our driver waited for an hour or so but later he returned alone with her luggage."

"ARE YOU GODDAMN CRAZY? A GIRL GETS OF YOUR TAXI, DOESN'T COME BACK AND YOU ARE TELLING ME A DAY LATER SO CASUALLY LIKE IT WERE SOME FREAKING WEATHER REPORT?!"Asad screamed through the phone.

"We thought that she might have informed you..we are sorry" said the man clinically, as if it made no difference to him whatsoever.

"Sorry? Wha..? CAN YOU EVEN HEAR YOURSELF?" said Asad still yelling.

'Calm down. Count to ten' he reminded himself.

Nothing was wrong with Zoya, she had just spoken to him a few minutes ago, he tried to convince himself, although unsuccessfully.

Anger had already done him too much harm and he was not going to try undo the harm with even more anger, he regained his composure and talked again, this time calmly.

"Can I speak to the driver who was taking her to the airport?"

"I'll message you his phone number immediately. We regret the inconvenience. Hope you have a good day! ", the man said impenitently.

"Inconvenience? Morons all of them" Asad muttered angrily.

Ten minutes, a phone call and a minor accident later, Asad was standing at Zobay crossroads.

"Now what? Where do I look for her?" thought Asad looking in every direction as far as his eyes could see. He knew he would never find her like this, but he was perplexed, furious and dejected. He felt so desperate and helpless that his mind failed to work.
